Status April 2012

Lots of work has been done on the movie since last status report:
1. 3D
Nearly all 3D shots are completed. Some are still awaiting to be rendered. Specially the one with CGI landscape for the crash scene. I still need to do some rendering time optimization on those.
2. Compositing
Nearly all greenscreen shots have been completed. But there are a bunch which contain some small errors which need some fixing.
3. Sound mixing
We started on the sound editing two month ago. Most scene are more or less done.
On the other hand we are waiting for some sound effects from Energia, but as Iron Sky is over now, it should be possible to get them soon.
4. Music
Composer Tapani Siirtola will start working on the music next or over next week.
5. Premiere
The premiere will be on 20th July 2012 at Finncon. It will quite certain start at 16:00 at this date. More information to follow soon.
6. Trailer
As soon as we 're finished with the effects and sound, we will start making the final trailer.
Twister-1 crash landing (everything is going well at this moment)

As intended the movie production is going slower than planned, but we're still on schedule for the premiere next year's sommer.
No status for a long time, not that we're not working on the movie. We are doing it every day for several hours, with job and other stuff next to it.
3D Effects
Most 3D effects have already been rendered, but some serious battle scene remain to be animated and rendered.
Also the final crash is still to do. For that we will have to buy Vue xStream to be able to generate CGI landscape. This will be more flexible and cheap than renting a helicopter.
Compositing
Most shots have been recomposed, and are getting their final backgrounds these days. Also some backgrounds still need to be modelled.
Music
Star Wreck:ItP Composer Tapani Siirtola will compose the music for Star Wreck 2pi.
Reviewings
The movie has been reviewd by several people including Samuli and Timo.
While the middle and the end of the movie tend to be apreciated by everybody, and has little critic, we get completely different opinions on the begin of the movie, so this part will require some more editing.
Media Coverage
Since this major weakness of that project, no media has ever cared for it. It's time to change that. Maybe you here at WAM could tipp off some medias or blog about it.
Premiere
It will be in sommer next year, few months after Iron Sky. People from the team have been informed when it's going to be.

by the way, why don't you use one of the new posters as the production image... this might attract some more wreckers :D
The premiere is after Iron Sky, but we hope to finish the project ASAP. The animation for the end battle is done by 75%, the compositing for the most shots is done.
We might need to shoot some more BG action for the bridge, just to get more different faces.
I think the premiere is still a couple months away, but I'm also looking forward to seeing the finished film :D
I wonder, what will we be able to see first - Iron Sky or Star Wreck 2pi?
Hey, been awhile:-)
Looking great, lots of action, and I like action!
After the oslo shoot, I did as we talked about, notify a couple of media sources but got very little feedback. An option is to contact student papers etc, if it gets some pr that way it would be easier to get a bigger source to pick up on it.
I am still willing to get some feelers out and see if I can make someone pick up the story, I´ll keep trying:-)
Also...I have not heard anything about the premiere, and I did play a small part;-)
Hell yeah, that space battle scene looks really great! Much better than the boring Battlestar Galactica re-make series I'm trying to watch at the moment, nothing ever happens there... :P
Getting public attention is really very hard, and most people don't have any imagination for unfinished projects. I think you should focus on finishing 2pi and then approach the media with the final result. I know this makes it harder to motivate yourself, but in retrospect, I wish I hadn't put so much time into the fruitless efforts of promoting Snowblind when we were still working on it... just a waste of time. Because once thing thing as finished, a lot of things happened almost by themselves. I guess journalists want to "discover" stuff they write about by themselves ; )
Keep up the good work!

New teaser and title
| Posted May 17, 2011 by Thierry Gschwind 2 Thumb-ups |
As annouced in the previous post we are releasing a new teaser.
Also the movie has been renamed to Star Wreck 2pi: Full Twist, now!
We're working very hard on the movie to finish it as soon as possible.
You can help to add more subtitles: http://www.wreckamovie.com/tasks/show/2120
It takes approx. 15 min for your time.

Yeah, we're all looking forward to the finished film :D BTW, isn't it about time to change the "poster" for the production, with the new title and all...?
@Jani
We know that "yes men" comments don't really help. (except for morale)
For the whole movie we have stricter quality management.
Yeah you're right; it's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it ;P
Please don't get me wrong - there are SO many great things in this teaser there is not enough space to list them.
I'm a fan of the project, and just want it to get the exposure it deserves. You can't improve with only "yes men" commenting. Thus i'm playing the overly harsh critic - it's a shitty job, i hate it, but someone's gotta do it.
a) I suck with fonts, but i think you could use the one you do (without the inside shadow) if you just make the character spacing a bit more wide.
b) the textures flash and there is a weird black shadow at the 15 second mark.
c) Yeah, it's wreck. But in a trailer, you should, in my opinion, display the best performances. The character is an ass, but i just didn't get the joke the way it was done here. Then again, i'm an ass myself, so what do i know...
e) I was wrong about that. It looked like the textures were cut off, but at closer inspection, it was the shields doing that. My bad! Looks bloody amazing!
@Jani
a) We will come back to you when we do the final trailer.
b) Won't be used in the movie.
c) The character is an ass. It's Wreck. Check InsideOut Ep. 13.
We will have better stuff, but it's not ready yet.
e) Don't see the bugs in the last shot.
About Soundfx:
We don't have all SoundFX ready, we thought about adding some provisoric, but it would have taken time to do it. And at the moment we have so much stuff which needs to be done for the movie, so we skipped it totally, instead of doing something bad.
Hi Jani, I think you're really being OVERLY critical here ;P
I agree with you on the "inner shadow" of the font, though I think the font itself is good. I'd just use it plain or with a very slight shadow only.
Maybe it's only because I watched it in 480p due to my slow connection, but I couldn't see any bugs - except for one point where the last frame befor a cut was somehow wrong...?
I think the overall quality of the effects is pretty amazing! We definitely haven't ever seen anything for 2pi that looked so good :D
About Stöcklin, well I guess that's part of the Swiss-German humour. It's not even understandable for Germans, but this is an essential element of the film, so I think it's appropriate to show it right away so people know what they're in for ;P
As you said, the most striking problem is the lack of Sound FX. If all effects were in place - especially needed is loud "ship atmosphere" and wrecking sounds in the bits where Stöcklin is shouting and falling of his chair - and the other voice-parts in the end from Dwarf and the Female Pilot. I think if that were there, the trailer would look pretty much finished =)
ps: Antti really works well as a star ship captain! Oh yes, and Angela too of course :D
Great progress, folks! I can't believe you are really pulling this one off!!
From the 40 seconds point forward, it's a sweet trailer.
But i'm gonna have to be overly critical. When you come out with the final trailer, it has to be perfect for it to get the maximum audience you deserve. So forgive me.
a) The font doesn't work. The letters are too tight and there's no need for an inner shadow or whatever that is. The animation would be enough to make a simpler font interesting.
b) The opening space ship scene is buggy as hell. You can't open a trailer with that! Start strong, finish strong (which you do!).
c) Making the main character look like an ass right out of the gate is not a good idea. (editing didn't help with that, either)
Try cutting straight from the "buona fortuna" -line to the 35 second mark. I'm sure you have better material than that.
d) The rest of the teaser is obviously missing sound fx.
e) The ending of the trailer is epic, but it's buggy, too.
