Stick Wreck models are simple, but that backround is so awesome with HD resolution :)

Thanks! It looked very drab before, it was just one setting wrong.

Tuning scene 1

I have been tuning scene one a bit, the armature of the captain had a problem.

The bridge has updated textures, I did that before all this moving to Umeå stuff, but I am not sure I have shown you. Here's a screenshoot.

David, try lowering the front of the dog so that its chest is touching the ground, that's how real dogs lie down.

Some Stick Wreck future episode ideas

Nothing final. Just for the sake of remembering.

An Alien creature, with capital A, gets aboard the Stickstart. And the crew starts disappearing one by one, all the people in the vicinity of the disappearance can hear is a moaning. In the end, the creature ends up being the first P-fleet ships councillor.

Our friends captain Sherrypie, Ivonavitsa and Garibrandi was miraculously saved by their nose picking friend Ambassador Flush and goes to the Stick Wreck universe in a StarWreckWhiteStarEquivalent to exact revenge. Bad speeches and general confusion (and an epic battle between Flush and the councillor) ensues. (Fight between Flush and Councillor might be an Alien Versus Predator parody. Leaving the Babel 13 crew and the Stickstart crew forced to cooperate not to be killed in the crossfire, while both teams surreptitiously try to make sure that the battle is fought on the other guys ship.)

The Stickstart got destroyed again, and P-fleet, getting annoyed with the number of ships the Stickstart crew go through makes the new Stickstart completely controlled by the computer. The Stickstart gets fed up with it's incompetent crew and decides to defect. The new Stickstart looks just like the others, save a row of red lights on the front just like those on the car Kitt from the old Knight rider series.

The Stickstart gets a new female overweight captain that is, lo and behold, competent. They meet with an alien peaceful species, and the new captain does some nice negotiating. Of course the crew has trouble accepting the competent captain, wanting their daily life of silliness and drunken partying back. And worst of all, she flushed the councillor out the airlock. (The creature had trouble accepting another alpha female on the ship.) They try to mutiny, gaining support from the more cowardly and afraid of court martial by pointing out the directive that all unknown ships should be destroyed on sight, which the new captain has broken. In the end the captain defects to the aliens, and uses their superior weaponry to cripple the Coffee machine and vaporise the Stickstarts vast supply of booze and porn.

The obligatory episode where the Stickstart crew is on quest to get the Coffee machine repaired and their Booze and porn restocked. The first scene is the Stickstart being docked to a big trade space station that dwarfs it. But all they can find is Alien porn, strange Teas with hallucinatory effects and really strong liquor that has makes the anyone who drinks it crazy.

The Plingon captain from the first Stick Wreck returns. Her mission? To capture the crew of the Stickstart for her personal Harem. An epic battle ensues as the Ships councillor returns.

The Stickstart stumbles over a small band of rebels that call themselves Piraterna (The pirates). Formed by previous members of the Swedish Pirate party that got abolished by Pirk and then reformed as the TRUE Pirate party, that unlike the old Pirate party is all about illegal downloading and nothing else. (Pirk needs his pirated porn.) Will the moral dilemmas be hard enough to make the heads of the crew of the Stickstart explode? Considering it's them, probably yes.

Piratebay is now pirateship. lol

David Jansson March 20, 2010 10:28 Flag

Added a new idea at the bottom, and put the idea where we see the Babel 13 crew in a place that makes more sense chronologically. (Well, more sense in that I want that Idea closer to the present at least.)

I am pretty sure that Episode 2 will be the Alien monster that becomes councilor episode. Just to get her into the cast a soon as possible. And because she will be fun to model and animate.

Daniel Saarimäki March 05, 2010 19:25 Flag

I ment the one we are making now. I hope you do... I have hundreds of good movie ideas in my mind but I have to complete Sample before making them!! I have hundreds of started but never finished projects.

David Jansson March 05, 2010 17:35 Flag

I added a new idea. I had almost forgotten about Sherrypie and the others of Babel 13.

Daniel: You mean the first episode? I will finish the one we are working on before I lift finger for a new one. (Possibly with the exception of the Alien model as that is more than just a model to use with Stick Wreck for me.) I am just using this shot as a dumping ground for ideas.

Daniel Saarimäki March 03, 2010 09:15 Flag

Could you please try to make that one episode ready before proceeding to the other ones.

David Jansson March 03, 2010 00:57 Flag

Hehe. I am waiting with adding the furniture idea until I can find a perspective on it that I think would actually make a good episode.

Added some other stuff to the shot though.

Daniel Saarimäki February 27, 2010 14:14 Flag

What are you going to tell when somebody asks you: "How did you invent the idea for the furniture strike episode?" XD

Another weird episode to this REALLY weird series...

David Jansson February 27, 2010 14:00 Flag

Big yawn.

"Give me a status report."
Sits down on the nonexistent captains chair. Boomf.
"All chairs seem to have gone missing sir."
From floor: "All? And, huh?"
"Seems like our furniture has disappeared sir."
"Aha! So that's why I woke up on the floor! Computer, localize our furniture!"
Computer: "I can't do that Dave."

Daniel Saarimäki February 27, 2010 13:58 Flag

Well, the ship is propably going to strike, so why not the furniture too.

(null) February 27, 2010 13:54 Flag

Furniture going on strike, that would be rather cool... :)

("Don't you DARE sit down until you give us more pay.")

David Jansson February 27, 2010 13:47 Flag

Are you sure we aren't talking about a new episode where, uh, the furniture go on strike? :)

Daniel Saarimäki February 27, 2010 13:35 Flag

This shot is about new episodes and now you are talking about furniture...

(null) February 27, 2010 13:05 Flag

It was a whole group of chairs around a table actually, but one of them was more elaborate than the others.

David Jansson February 27, 2010 13:02 Flag

That would be Baron Harkonnens chair. :)

(null) February 27, 2010 12:22 Flag

The exhibition's text said that the designs were originally for an earlier Dune production by a different director which was cancelled. I don't know the full story though.

There was furniture at the exhibition too (thrones with skulls in them etc), maybe that was from Dune?

David Jansson February 27, 2010 11:44 Flag

Cancelled Dune film?

Gigers designs ARE in David Lynchs Dune. It wasn't cancelled, but it was horribly edited by the film company. (Didn't stop me from loving it though, imagine what it could have been if Lynch had gotten to do the editing as he wanted.) David Lynch was not happy.

The furniture of Baron Harkonnen was designed and made by Giger. I can't remember if he did more.

(null) February 27, 2010 11:34 Flag

"I love Gigers art, not just his Alien! Got two Giger artbooks. Colour me jealous!"

They had art from his entire career, before and after Alien. It was very interesting indeed, and they had costumes and models he'd designed too. There was also stuff from films that never happened, such as his designs for an earlier cancelled version of Dune.

The Alien itself seems to have been partly inspired by a costume he did which was a person with a camera built into their face. It was for a Swiss indie sci-fi film in the 1960s.

Also, apparently he had done new designs for Alien 3 but they weren't used because of some kind of misunderstanding with the producers.

David Jansson February 27, 2010 11:29 Flag

"(By a curious coincidence the real Alien is currently in at a Geiger exhibition in Tampere right now, which is of course the home of Star Wreck. Some of the Energia people have been to see it I believe.)"

I love Gigers art, not just his Alien! Got two Giger artbooks.

Colour me jealous!

"I would LOVE to see the Stick Wreck version of the Alien..."

I have already started modelling what I think will be the Stickstart Alien. Currently it's just because I wanted to do some creature design in 3d, but it will probably fit what I have in mind. I have a fast pencil sketch if you want to see it.

David Jansson February 27, 2010 11:23 Flag

There is of course the obligatory episode where the Stickstart crew is on quest to get the Coffee machine repaired and their Booze and porn restocked. (The porn was either deleted in an accident, or this episode would follow the episode with the competent captain.)

Animation

Just to show you there is progress.

With the lack of recorded dialogue I am animating space scenes. I was about to upload the one I am working on, for backup, but it got bigger than 20Mb. So I had to settle for an extra copy on my external HD.

Here's a screenshot.

Gah. I can't find that setting in the 2.5 version but I will keep searching. I know it's there. I found some other interesting settings instead, like a whole "preformance" tool tab in the rendering settings.

David Jansson March 25, 2010 21:45 Flag

What I mean is that it will play the animation in real time, even if your computer isn't fast enough to show 25 frames per second.

Daniel Saarimäki March 25, 2010 18:48 Flag

Thanks, but I have never even pressed it. It's unselected by default.

David Jansson March 25, 2010 18:39 Flag

No...

But I found a setting where it will simply drop the frames that it doesn't have time to render. Scene (f10), then choose anim/playback´buttons. (The icon with the curvy arrow.) Make sure the button in that menu that says Sync is depressed.

Daniel Saarimäki March 25, 2010 18:33 Flag

Can your computer run that with full speed even if the shading view is on?

"Check all your lights if you have accidentaly duplicated them."

This time it was more a case of; "hmmm, lets see if I can improve the lighting." *move light around (and fiddle with settings)* "That didn't make things better!" *save* "Doh!" (As Homer says...)

Angela R. March 08, 2010 12:15 Flag

"I can't believe you said that either... ;) "

All David's fault! I swear! ;)

But seriously, being a Plingon, and seen how very big the captain's breasts are, I feel it would be just fair if the bloke was more stuffed, too.

*looks like an angel*

(null) March 08, 2010 12:11 Flag

"And... hmm... maybe the underwear should look more "stuffed" too...?"

I can't believe you said that either... ;)

Angela R. March 08, 2010 11:43 Flag

Brilliant. I love the bloke (I assume it is a guy since it is a stickfigure without breasts) wearing the pink spiky underwear sitting on the front. But maybe he should be more... uhm, muscular? And... hmm... maybe the underwear should look more "stuffed" too...?

*blushes and cannot believe she just suggested that*

The plingon bridge

Edit:

Now that the P-fleet bridge is done, save one display and one toilet sign, I have started adding buttons and control sticks to the Plingon Bridge.

Edit: What kind of buttons should I place on the pilot station, it feels kind of empty. And what should I put on the screen on the everything else station?

Plingon society

Plingons are warriors. They live for the simple code of battle. They are brutes. This description also fits Star Treks Klingons.

So, where do they get their cool tech, like Stashing gadgets, from? And who fixes their stashing gadgets and space buzzards when they have gotten their ass kicked by the Romuclans? The answer, there has to be a hidden academic class. But what are they? Do they have a statuis akin to mistreated slaves? Are they just invisible, not noticed, the way people can become invisible when they do a job that everyone expects to just happen. What would happen when they realize how easy it would be to outsmart the warrior class and seize control themselves? Could it even be a hidden ruling class that gives the Plingon their weapons and ships and then with their warped sense of humour laugh at a distance at their brutish ways? Are they Plingons themselves or something else entirely?

Just wondering.
