Description

We've set up several Phases for this show, the first being the production of a teaser trailer and the first episode (see the production blog www.baktunseries.com). This is well under way. Once these are completed and everyone involved is happy with the production, we move into the next, which is the complete production of the series of about 13 to 20 episodes, depending on length.

We are shooting most scenes in the Caribbean and thus have a vast access of locations and talents. A few additional scenes were already shot in the US (LA, Las Vegas). The show will follow a mocumentary style and the story is reminiscent of National Treasure or Relic Hunter. The difference is that all historical elements are true and can be verified by the viewer, and several of the actual historical locations will be used, thus heightening a sense of reality and giving viewers a participatory role.

The central message of the story is hope. With all this nonsense about an end of the world in 2012 we wanted to create a story that is the exact opposite of the more common "we are all doomed!" believes circling the 'net, as well as being historically and archaeologically accurate... but still telling a fun and action-packed conspiracy tale.

We ask all wreakers to watch the development of the show over the next few months and chip in whenever something entices you to collaboration or come up with additional ideas. All suggestions are welcome and any participation as well.

Since this is a story of global impact, there are vast possibilities for an expansion of the conspiracy aspect, and/or additional stories, episodes, etc created by the wreckers. Or not. Hey, that's the whole point of WreckAMovie, right?

Happy wrecking!

Is this a comedy or is it serious?

If this is a comedy then great, it sounds good.

If it's a serious drama, then I'm a little worried about the central concept.

Surely trying to prove the world won't end because of a mayan prophecy is like trying to prove the earth isn't flat?

If I've misunderstood the concept then forgive me.

That's one of the angles, yup. I will supply more info on all these details. We'll keep everyone posted, what with the possible recent changes in the cast lineup...

"But what if at the same time global events would start happening that seem to indicate that something greater IS going on?"

Ahhh... well that's another matter. A way of making that point even more strongly would be to have other smaller Maya predictions which come true one by one, which makes people believe the 2012 one will come true too.

Of course really it's the conspiracy that is causing the other smaller predictions to come true... :)

The concept is an adventure story in the style of 'National Treasure', or Indiana Jones, but mocumentary style, with a heavy dose of comedy as well. As you know, there are many people under the impression that the world will end, which is of course nonsense, since there is no Mayan prophesy that says that it will. The protagonist are attempting to find the 14th Baktun, basically a continuation of the Mayan Long Count calender. Since the Mayan Calender only has 13 baktun (time-periods) this would archaeologically disprove the notion of an end of the world. But what if at the same time global events would start happening that seem to indicate that something greater IS going on? Would humanity still believe archaeologist and historians or would all give in to an end of the world panic? And what if there was an organization that wanted the world to believe the end will come, to use the flames of panic to start a New World order? Once the pilot is done style, story and concept should become more clear. I believe from then on it will be easier for wreckers to collaborate...

I see your point. I'll look into it. With the currently illness of said actress we will have to look into changes anyway. Thanks for the shot! And I'll have to look into the Uncharted thing. Never heard of it. Got my nose too deep in history books all the time... :-)

Erik Niemi December 23, 2009 15:00 Flag

It just sounds so cheesy. It's like calling the handsome leading male Count Fabio de Falco. It's just the name Drake that bugs me. Might be the popularity of the Uncharted games that make it sound like a ripoff (no offence here).
But Jazz is cool, I really like that one!

Alec Corday December 23, 2009 14:31 Flag

Awww... why not? We wanted to shorten it to Jazz for the most part, and 'Drake' because of her relation to the Drake family (which is part of the story).

Looks great

Would be great if we could get a few more, more specific tasks for Baktun going here on Wreckamovie. That way it will be easier for wreckers to get involved and to contribute. I think your blog looks great, lots of really cool material there already that would be great to have on here as well. We are working on making our production News section even more like a blog, in the not too distant future you should be able to replicate most of what you have on http://www.baktunseries.com from a look and feel perspective as well (the idea is that you will have the standard Wreckamovie version and a more customizable one that is easier to brand etc) We want to make it as easy as possible for any production to engage with the community on here and vice versa.
Anyway, great to see your series here!

Sounds good. We'll keep working on the site and hope to provide even more going forward.

Alec Corday December 22, 2009 21:39 Flag

Absolutely agree with you. As tiem goes by I will be adding more material from the blog and more, and once the trailer and pilot is done and style, feel and concept are established it will be easier for everyone to collaborate and be inspired. I like your ideas for the site as well, looking forward to that! I will def see how we can get this show on the road using WreckAMovie.
