Closing Note

We use http://www.wuala.com/the_romuttamo for repository

Description

For this production we need a central repository, so we can manage this as a multisite production.

For now I think we'll use something like SVN, but all along the way I'll be making notes on how an asset management system spiced up with some management, tagging and search tools would work with Blender (and other tools).

If people like to brainstorm about this also outside of the framework of this particular production, do give a shot with ideas, use cases, expected functionalities, etc.

Using Wuala

http://www.wuala.com/the_romuttamo

Ok, because I'm too strapped for time to properly set up a custom repository, I've opted to use Wuala, as per suggestion.

See the above link for public access, for now we'll be using this. Clients are available for Windows, Linux and Macs.

This is pretty new still to me, so I hope that using this group works out.

I'll be creating a directory structure for all the files in the weekend.

Having separate groups set up in Wuala is not ideal, we want to make the experience more seamless than that. You shouldn't need to go to another service, you could just upload/embed on here. Ideally we want to integrate it with the group functionality we have here, obviously making that a bit better too. And I think we need to offer unlimited storage, storage is cheap anyway.

So right now the vision is seamlessly integrated, unlimited storage. I think that would be a good starting point. On top of that we can then build more functionality to support the productions better.

Everyone who joined the group, can see all files in the group.
You can make a group private, means that you have to approve people when they want to join, or you have to invite them.

If you let run your computer all the time, you can get quite a lot of space, if you share a lot of HD.
While I was rendering my last movie, the computer run nearly all the time, so I got nearly 70 GB of Wuala space.

Does group mean you can share with the entire group? Because that would work, if everyone put up their own contributions on their own gig. I got 2,3 gigs of storage, you get more if you share a part of your own HD.

Agree that groups in Wuala is a solution for sharing, but might need a bit more. In any case good to know who we need to talk to about more storage. We are looking at making the sharing easier and more integrated with Wreckamovie in any case. Wuala is one of the options out there.

Using group in Wuala is a solution.

BTW, the boss of Wuala is former school mate from me, so if you need more space just tell me.

I think Nathan has something more ambitious in mind;-) A central repository done right could really help collaboration get much easier and more effective. Really cool if we can test it here using some of the Wreckamovie productions.
