Uhm, I thought I'd try again later

My very first impression, upon receiving the invitation for the demo (or whatever it was called) was... okay, this will require to take a better look later / complete the registration properly / study the features etc. So although I was absolutely thrilled by the possibility to somehow partecipate in a movie creation, I just bookmarked it.

When I eventually found the time to come back, the interface had been improved I believe because I managed to register in a minute, and needed even less to understand how it worked... but maybe the first time I simply had not looked well...

Impressive

Very nice and usable site. It didn't take too much time to figure out how things work. You say this is alpha but I'we seen much worse actual launches of sites/services. Good job. I like the gray colors on the page and the idea (if it was the idea) that movie flyers bring more colors to the site.

When I try to remember the first time I got to the front page.. It was something like this:
First my attention was on the huge logos of movies on the front page (all logos were from the same movie). Random click on one of those... "what's this, oh there are open tasks.." random click on one task from latest tasks list... "oh, you have to register... ok".

Once I'd finished the registration and logged in I already had clicked trough about every link and by then I already got the idea of the structure of the site.

Here are some thoughts, thinking only of someone new who just came to the site for the first time and tries to find out what this site is about.

- Should movies currently in production have more attention from the main page? (The "films" link on the topright menu)

- The intro banner and intro page is good.

- Is the "Film news" header misleading on the front page? (latest contributions, latest actions...)

- The "film news" area being so huge on the front page, does it take attention away from from the topright menu and from the intro banner?

Some suggestions

I think the site could be made a little more easily navigatable. It is a little irritating to go up and down all the time to search for the links to switch pages. I also hope the Shots (News) section will be made so it can cope with the huge number of topics bound to pop up eventually. Some kind of a voting system (if not the regular +/- type) could also be whipped up for the shot comments. Maybe even just a plus system - as this could generate more feedback and used somehow to encourage even just commenting "Shots". For example, what if a comment automatically became a "Shot" if it received enough plusses?

Anyway it's looking good and certainly got my attention. I so like the idea. :)

PS. For us with some musical or sound interests, some kind of a way to later directly link to services such as Indabamusic would be really cool.

Thanks for the good feedback!

We are working on the Shots/News section, and we are also building a karma system for comments and shots, which would be much like +/- -section.

Your idea of linking to Indabamusic etc. is a good idea too, we'll think on how to make it happen.

Thanks!

Well Thought Through

I knew you were aiming for some kind of collaboration with fans by allowing open contributions to the project but I had no idea you were boiling up some ambitious platform like this - so, I was kind of amazed. The first glance at the site gives an impression of a pretty well planned and realized service. So far everything seems to be working quite well and I'm pretty sure people are going to think of this as a great step forward in the creation of Iron Sky. But one thing sort of gets to me. Why such a dull gray layout? Bleh.

Thanks Matti! Good to hear you enjoy the overall functionality already now in Alpha stage. We evaluated some 10 different layouts - some extremely renegade - some less, but then realized we should probably let the productions stand out and shine instead of the platform itself. Perhaps we pushed that philosophy even too far towards dullness, so let's see how the layout will evolve...

A nice start!

After been here now for a while, I have same thoughts like Julius has; the navigation should be easier or more logical. Sometimes I'm just stuck trying to find that one thing I'm looking for...

Also it would be nice if you could combine the Dashboard and My Profile pages in MyWreck-section because those both pages have some similar infos; no need for the doubles so one page with all the information there would be great! :)

But I shall continue my visits here more and more, that's sure! Very interesting concept and who knows if we are truly starting a some sort of revolution with this... :) Keep it going boys (and girls ;) !

Thanks Niko! We'll be improving the MyWreck / Dashboard pages and will probably combine some of the overlapping functionality in the process. If you and other wreckers have more ideas for improving, combining and linking the MyWreck and other pages, I'd love to hear more. We're definitely making the Future of Film, so let's keep feeding the cannon!

I'm confused as a "newbie"

I'm a seasoned user of various types of sites, and being an excessively active member at the Star Wreck site I should definitely be familiar with everything related to Iron Sky (I'm Max Fun there). But as a complete newbie here, I must tell I'm definitely missing a quick welcome tutorial. I mean a short introduction one would get the very first time one logs in just I did today, and could also check later, if necessary. (Sorry I missed logging in this long, but now I deliberately took it a mission to see things as a newbie as I had the opportunity of being one.)

I don't mean this site would be overly bad or confusing as such. (I don't actually know, because I haven't been around much yet.) I'm certain I'll get used to things here pretty fast and I'm certain this is a great system, but it'll take some time to get used to it. After these few minutes I've been logged in now, it does look great, and I can see the basic idea most likely works great - but I AM confused of it for the moment before I'll find out how the things are organised first.

So, me being a "complete newbie" now, I do feel pretty lost here. I'd need a short intro of what things there are here I should pay my attention to at first.

Let me continue explaining a bit.

There sure is an intro to what this site is about. That's fine for "promotion" to tell people what this site is all about in general.

But what I mean missing is a short "walk-through" or "survival kit" of the most important options once one gets inside. A simple guide a newbie can follow from A to Z in a few minutes to learn the basics without getting confused by the several more advanced options. And then that tutorial should just point out to a more detailed tutorial for the more advanced options once one will get acquianted first.

Nice friendly site

The whole idea of the possibility to be able to participate in movie making is really cool. And the site seems to have lot of things, but .. I can't really get grasp of the navigation in here.

1. The menus are bit disturbing. It took me a while to notice that there is actually a send level of menus when I click something like "MyWreck" menu. Probably one reason is that these two menus are quite separated. And it seems that I end up in same place with multiple paths multiple.

2. Some of the tasks have these nice burning icons which I think means that maybe my help is needed there, but I only find them after long path of clicking. I would expect these important shots to be seen when ever I start to look at tasks.

3. The movie project pages should be really separated from these housekeeping tasks. It is bit too much of streching the movie project concept

Anyway this is a great start ..

Thanks for good comments! We also agree that there's a lot to work on, and eventually I'm also hoping to move the housekeeping tasks away from film productions, but during private alpha we allow them here because the most important thing for now is to go through the basics of the system.

Your feedback is very accurate, and we'll be working on these!

Thanks a lot!

Screen after registration

Excellent! The only minor critisism I have is that the login page that appeared after having registered into the service was a bit confusing; it seemed as though I would be able to log in with my mail address and chosen password. After having tried this enthusiastically for a few times I went to my inbox and noticed that there was the link I was able to login with. So, I wonder why, after registration, I am forwarded to a page where it seems that I am able to log in eventhough I am not. I suggest that there would be a page without possibility to log in and saying something like "Thank you for registering into WAM. An email has been sent to you with a login information."
