Great idea / great surprise / little disappiontment

First time I came here, I really find this website to be a great idea.
Then, it had been a great surprise to me how many projects there were, and how many people, too.
I decided to register, and to start collaborating, and then had a stop: the license was always "All Rights reserved". During a short time, I thought I hadn't understood what it was about, and finally, by launching my first production, I saw that it was kind of a default choice, when no other license suited, but still we were talking about arts being shared and collaborative.

License is the choice of the producer. GPL is an option too, but if one intends to release something commercially...

Well Done

I thought it was a great idea that I would be able to give suggestions and commentary on the development process of interesting sounding films.

I was a little hesitant at first using the site, because it uses its own terminology, but I got used that quickly.

The site is clean and mostly well organized. Everything is really easy to find, and the email update process is effective. I also like the voting setup. The addition of an edit feature is a good finishing touch. I especially like being able to change my account name without any hassle.

Yeah, I was impressed by the clean nature of the site. They've stuck to the basics without cluttering it up with useless stuff.

My first time.

I started my Blender project Sample first time at blenerartists.com. I spotted soon that I were at the wrong place. Blenderartists is more like image and art making place. Someone suggested this site. I quickly looked this site and opened the films-tab. First film: Snowblind. Budget: 300000e. Okay... I closed this site and tought that my film would not be enough good for this site.

Later, I had to get out from blenderartists.com and I started to look this site more. I added my project and results have been fantastic! There is lots of helpful people and my project has gone better than I could never imagine. Only problem is, that there isn't so much Blender people. I know only one Blender editor. David Jansson, who has helped me a lot. Someone should tell about WAM to Blender editors.

I have never heard about that site. I try it soon.

what about this finnish place:

Daniel Saarimäki October 31, 2009 13:59 Flag

Blenderartists.com is not good place for this. You can try the original Blender.org forum.

Anyway, it is lot harder to get Blender people here than normal 2d-art makers or short film makers. Blender editors usually want to do all job themselves and they are not so helpful. Blenderartists is even worse for this.

David Jansson October 31, 2009 10:27 Flag

I tried to get people interested in my project on the Blenderartists forum. All I got was pissed off comments that I was asking for free help...

Someone helped me by reposting my synopsis, but it was with a what I think was supposed to be sarcastic remark.

I don't think the creative commons concept is very popular among the patrons there. (Which, come to think of it, is kind of silly in a forum dedicated to art made with an open source program...)

You will see it soon;-)

Daniel Saarimäki October 30, 2009 13:26 Flag

Iron Sky game project?? I want to see that.

I will post to Blender forums but not now.

Peter Vesterbacka October 29, 2009 21:46 Flag

Great to hear that you like out site. Maybe you could post some comments on the Blender Forum linking to your post here. Also, the guys will use Blender for the Iron Sky game project coming to WAM soon... Should help get more Blender people here.

Nice....

When I've login for the 1st time and came here, the first thouht was: "OMG, not a single commercial banner. Wonderful!" After some exploring I've realized that I've living in the dark until now. And there's always a light at the end of tunnel

Whooohooo!!!

I joined yesterday. I was amazed at the community feel of the site. This is lovely. I was able to "give it a shot" on several of the productions I chose and it left me feeling like my voice matted and I was potentially able to help. As an actor it allows me to have a more rounded experience and broaden my horizons. Thanks, and I look forward to awesome things to come.

Welcome aboard! One thing i love about WAM: When you put your mind to a shot, it's very likely filmmakers and the community will appreciate it. Feedback is instant and fair. And having your shots used in an actual production givers a great feeling.

I hope you find use for your acting skills!

Learning by trying.

Well, I came on board ages ago, April 2008, when the old layout was still up (And i still prefer the old raven logo!).

Then I had a couple of epic failure shots, and then finally started to learn how to contribute here.

The lesson: It takes a while to find how to do things on WAM. Thus give it some time before you get discouraged.

I second your opinion Jani.

There are many ways one can contribute here on WAM, and it depends on the dialogue in between those who are responsible of their productions and the audience -us - who have different ways to participate: brainstorming, photographing, sketching, drawing, some even making music ..depends on the mood and interest what to do. (Some interactive productions here show that the more there is interaction between audience and film makers, the more ideas and feedback it creates).

Peter Vesterbacka August 17, 2009 18:28 Flag

I hear you;-) Afraid we are not moving back to the old raven logo just yet, but there might be a new production in the pipeline that would be using that... Stay tuned for more Info as it develops.
We are doing our best to make things more intuitive, but agree that we still have some work to do in that department as well. Please keep the feedback coming and we'll try to make things work better.

Not flashy

Hehe.. just kidding :)

Well, I joined only yesterday, so unlike some of the people that are here for some time now, I can't say about the experience, but...

The first time I ever heard about Wreck A Movie was on a forum of a music software that I'm using. There was a post about the Iron Sky remix, and I went from there to check it out. I ended up here... teehee.

Registration was easy as breeze, but it passed with a slight sign of impatience from my part ( I waited the whole 5 minutes for the confirmation email... lol ). The initial navigation was easy as well, unlike some of the forums I've visited where searching for replies makes it a living hell.

For the day 1 that I've been here, I went through some of the projects, joned some of them too (will see how it'll all go), but so far I'm loving it.
And as the title of this post says "Not flashy".... it's actually good that it's not.

I really admire what this is all about and what you're wanting to achieve, and I'm looking forward to see some great works here.

First impression..

My first impression was that "this would be a good place to get people listen to my music" and that's why I signed in. After a while I started using WAM more and discovered that I was hooked. I needed to check out daily if my shots were commented on or thumbed up..

Overall WAM has made a great start and I'm here to make it even better.

KEEP ON WRECKING! :)

Clean layout

As someone who despises poorly designed websites with a passion, I was pleasantly surprised. The layout is clean, the comments system works well, the AJAX implementations are smooth and the Karma system is a great idea.

Overall a good experience, but there was a little bit of confusion with regard to joining productions and such. We could make a video guide to using WAM and post it on Vimeo, YouTube, Dailymotion etc; which could also help drive traffic here.

Glad you like the layout.

Agree that we need to make it even clearer regarding joining productions etc. Feel free to create some videos if you like, we'll try to get to that ourselves as well.

And if there are new features that you want to see, feel free to add them to the new features task here:

It just worked

The platform just worked. The only glitch is that I spent some time looking for the links to my own project.

Actually, I think it would be great if there were links to your projects in the Dashboard area, just not to the news articles. You kind of expect there to be such links directly when you press a button labelled MYWRECK.
