upcoming local convention.

There is a local convention (other than Darkside Expo) coming up in October called Hal-Con. If desired I'd be willing to man a table at this convention advertising Wreck-A-Movie and Wrek-A-Movie productions.Only thing is I wouldn't be able to pay for it myself.

If interested please drop me a line and we can discuss things.

WAM doesn't have any founding. WAM festival in Jyväskyla was sponsored by fellow wreckers. The only thing donated was the room, plus some cheaper printings.

An idea.

This sounds so odd but, I'm actaully in a really good posistion to help promote WAM. I'm the Coorperate Coodinator for a new Sci-Fi con call Darkside. Although we are small, our local community has plenty of people who would be interested in WAM.

We would love to showcase WAM at our main event in 2013, and if there were any flyers, posters or banners, we'd love to advertise for WAM. We'd even advertise for any movie of WAM that fits the bill.

The convention is called Darkside Expo, and unlike most other convention who focus on the hero of the story, we've decided to focus on the darkside of things. We are wanting to swing the spot light on the dark crevices of sci-fi.

And with our local populace of Cosplayers, Web-video producers, and other such we cna easily help populate WAM from here.

For more information abut Darkside Expoe, please contact me.

The board gave me their go a head a we are a go on Wrek-A-Movie. Thank you Kalle.

Peter Stewart December 30, 2011 10:45 Flag

I'll have to pass that idea on to the board. With a year out this could help us a lot.

Kalle Max Hofmann December 28, 2011 19:53 Flag

Just an idea; why don't you start Darkside Festival as a production here on Wreckamovie. After all, the site is not just about movies, but pretty much about any creative collaborative project. See for example the "Iron Sky Exhibition" for things the community could possibly help you out with ideas, feedback and all other kinds of input!

My new "praise Wreckamovie!" video :D

Here's a video that explains the important role of Wreckamovie in the making of our film "Snowblind"!

I made it as part of a little "behind the scenes" video trilogy to promote a crowd funding campaign that is supposed to help us release Snowblind on DVD and 3D-Blu-ray.

Let's hope the campaign becomes a success, and of course that Wreckamovie gets a couple of new members :D

Cheers,
Kalle-Max ^_

Thanks, guys! I hope a couple of people see this and join wreckamovie... then it would still make some sense, after all our crowd funding campaign has already ended... and it seems the videos didn't do especially well there =/

Fresh Italian blood?

Basically, this morning I was in Venice to have a talk with a docent from the local Art Lyceum, who is very interested in cinematography (and involved in the Venice Film Festival) and he agreed to work on a document to present to the head of the school to formerly request permission to proceed with the promotion of WAM amongst the students.

So hopefully there will be a new wave of fresh Italian blood coming up in a few weeks/months. If I manage to catch the students' attention and motivate them enough to bother to try and practice their knowledge of the English language, that is.

I really hope everybody will be nice to these young artists-in-the making when/if they finally join up. I will of course try to support them as I can, but I am assuming they will need to feel welcome by others as well in order to feel motivated enough to keep hanging around. ^^'

Fopefully more spaghetti westerns. :)

Seppo Hiltunen November 13, 2010 14:15 Flag

Tutti bene! This is wonderful news, I hope we get some more friends and even wreckamovie members from that group. As I said somewhere, this is like a movie club 2.0. (Movie club 1.0 was a place where people talked about movies, this is a place to get involved!)

Use WAM in Schools!

(to continue Jani's ideas)

Use WAM as a production environment in school projects, both in universities and elementary schools etc. Everywhere where movies are made - WAM should be the place to plan and manage the production.

Yes, it most likely would be, but before you spend any time updating the video for this purpose, I believe it would be better to wait and hear back from my contact person...

(null) October 21, 2010 21:17 Flag

Angela, was thinking maybe the "wreckamovie intro" video might be useful? If so, it could be updated to feature the latest material from WAM productions.

Angela R. October 20, 2010 18:08 Flag

I just contacted a professor from the Art Lyceum of Venice (which I attended back in the 90's), who is very interested in film-making (and amongst others regularly attends the Venice Film Festival) to inquire about the possibility to hold a WAM presentation there... fingers crossed!

Gert-Jan Van de Voorde November 20, 2009 21:29 Flag

The only thing is I think schools will choose for other sites like Smartschool and Blackboard (they are both Belgo-Dutch) because that are sites like WAM but designed for schoolwork. Nevertheless I think WAM has many things that are better then Smartschool and Blackboard.

(null) November 20, 2009 15:07 Flag

I think it's ultimately the same thing, getting WAM into schools where people can choose to use it in whichever way they want. And it's a good idea whichever way they use it... :)

Kim Viljanen November 20, 2009 10:17 Flag

Jani, yes, that's true. But I think the target audience for promoting WAM for School projects would primarily be the teachers.

Jani Salomaa November 20, 2009 10:08 Flag

This could be a part of the WAM presentations at school - telling the kids that also they can use WAM to help with their school projects.

Kim Viljanen November 20, 2009 09:47 Flag

Actually not, because my idea was to promote WAM as the tool to be used in the schools for doing school jobs. (Jani's idea was to promote WAM in schools, to be used outside the school.) :)

(null) November 19, 2009 18:49 Flag

I think Jani suggested something similar?

Expand promotional thinking to cover all wreckupations

I like all of the promotional ideas presented and perhaps missed the one that I am going to contribute. There is a lot to be said of promoting wreck a movie at film schools and to film students. Let's expand this thinking to include graphic arts, writing, music, sculpture, painting, acting, singing and other types of creative arts professions and schools for whom it may not be clear how their profession ties into the art of film making and the film business. What about the idea to have Wreck a Movie ambassadors who reach out through social media to engage people in these "other" professions and professional schools in wreck a movie projects as a way of crossing over to a new genre, generating new business and work opportunities and creating new forms of collaborative aesthetic expression?

Things will hopefully start happening soon, as I moved back to Italy and I am in range of a number of schools which I believe will be interested in using Wreckamovie as development platform for their projects...

Peter Vesterbacka December 22, 2009 19:45 Flag

Great ideas. Seems like we'll have plenty to do in 2010;-)

Cynthia DuVal December 22, 2009 18:19 Flag

Cool I am so glad that you two like this idea. I think it would be nice to have some kind of "badge" that ambassadors can use on their websites that say something like "I'm a Wreck a Movie Ambassador." I think that Ambassadors should become a "group" and have a group identity and purpose and help each other out with best practices etc. There should be an on-line kick off meeting that describes the program. There should be a mission statement something like: " Wreck a Movie Ambassadors Scour the World to find Creative People and Encourage Participation in Wreck a Movie Productions. Wreck a Movie exists to support global film making collaborations." I'm just taking a stab here but you get the idea. I'm not sure what your business, social goals are exactly but something like this. I don't know if these are paid positions or is there might be some reward for doing this work as it could be time consuming. It does seem to me tough that putting together an on-line webinar type of program that introduces people to Wreck a Movie would be really helpful. Wreck a movie could offer this to teachers for a fee and teachers could sign their classes up for such a thing to kick off class projects for example. Ambassadors coudl collaborate to introduce classes in different parts of the world together. These are some initial thoughts. It does seem to me that wreck a movie could be making some money and I hope that you are. Ambassadors could also be go to people(mentors) for other wreckers who have ideas for community, educational, biz dev projects that they want to do for which they need to do outreach to find their collaborators.

Peter Vesterbacka December 22, 2009 07:27 Flag

Really good idea, Cynthia! Couldn't agree more. I think it's very important to cover much more than just the "normal suspects" ie film schools and the like. It's all about collaboration and some of the best ideas always come out of mixing things and people with different backgrounds. That is what makes Wreckamovie such an exciting place in the first place, we have people from all over the world and of course we would all like to make it even more diverse, not just geographically, but in general.
I'm all for creating an ambassador program (or whatever we come up with as a name) and creating some promotional material for that. What do you think we should have in there?

Angela R. December 22, 2009 01:16 Flag

Completely agree with that. As a former visual graphics student, I could very likely organize something with my old school to introduce them to the platform... and I am sure a lot of other wreckers could do the same! We should create promotional packages to distribute, with ready-made presentations that can be translated in different languages for this use! Thumb up for the suggestion!

Country representative

Just thought about:
Maybe you should choose a person(or a team which would represent WAM on his/her country. That way if medias want to write something about WAM they can contact a person in the country which will ans wer their question.
That way they can put a local face on WAM, a thing that media like to do. Also the respective person can answer the question in another language than English.

For countries with few wreckers, someone can just apply for the job. For countries with many wreckers, some kind of poll would need to be hold.

What do you think?

Angela, I thought you wanted to cover Antarctica? :P

(Gosh, y'know... that gives me an idea...)

(null) August 30, 2010 21:55 Flag

Hmm... interesting. :)

It would be great to get local people telling the media about WAM. Perhaps we should have a document about WAM which wreckers would translate into as many languages as possible?

(A bit like we did with that video, but entirely text-based.)

Angela R. August 30, 2010 21:33 Flag

Well... it would make sense if the "local" representative would be willing to attend local movie festivals and similar events to promote the platform!

I volunteer for Italy, of course. ^^'

I've added it as a separate shot, and also added it to the task too.

Lemo G. August 25, 2010 15:15 Flag

First page of FAQ:
http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/4019
But I tend to agree, this task and the WAM Platform FAQ are quite far to reach, and a "press page" could be better.

(null) August 25, 2010 15:13 Flag

That's a good point Samuli, it is quite buried, I'll upload it as a shot in this task.

We need to look at getting WAM a proper press page, will pass this on to the team.

Communities & forums

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed here, but you could drop a word on some of the major community platforms out there, because they got plenty of talents, waiting to participate on bigger projects...
There are apparently a few mentions of wreckamovie as replies in bigger posts, but what we need is a WAM thread with a formal and illustrated presentation of of the concept, the features, and the productions.
Here are a few suggestions for cg artists communities:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/
http://forums.cgchannel.com/index.php
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/
http://forum.cgarena.com/
http://www.mattepainting.org/vb/index.php

http://www.evermotion.org/vbulletin/
http://www.gfxartist.com/community/forum
http://www.3dm3.com/forum/
http://forums.3dtotal.com/
(You may need to read the rules before posting)
In additions to those, I believe there are a lot of similar forums for music composers, writers, and any other talents we need.

Lemo, thanks for that!

It would be great to see WAM discussed more in the forum world (though of course those who start a WAM discussion have to be careful that it doesn't seem like an advert).
