Description

So, the first thing we're going to be doing in terms of the hoax bid is to set up a website for the con. The website will be located on Finncon's server and the address will be 2012.finncon.org/moon or something like that.

Now we need ideas for the things on the website. What kind of programming items will there be already confirmed over two years before the "con"? The programming items should be somewhat in the lines of Finncons in general (not the Animecons, though), you can check out the older Finncon websites for more information about the program. http://finncon.org

Traditionally there are meetings (such as the meeting of the Harry Potter fans, which I don't think has ever actually taken place, or the meeting of the Finnish Tolkien Society, which has taken place several years) and some games in addition to the more "serious" program. What kind of things would be good for the Moon?

The GoH's have mostly been decided already and Eemeli Aro is the one who takes care of this (we can't really use names of proper authors without telling them first and having them agree on this, that's why Eemeli is responsible). If you've got a really good suggestion for the GoH, let us know, of course!

Bare in mind this is a science fiction convention with the main focus on literature. Media, comics, etc. are ok, but the focus of the program should be in science fiction or fantasy and in literature!

Well...

Eventually, it seems like there just was not enough time to organize much, and the 2012 Finncon is going to be held in Tampere anyway.

It was fun to think about, though! 8)

Lovely Lunar Scenery

The moon nazis promoting their Finncon bid would not want to look like soldiers, they are the lunar visitor's bureau. They should dress like used car salesmen and pass out propaganda fliers showing the moon as a good destination for a convention.

The obvious advantages:

Warm weather - 107° C in the ample sunshine.
Dramatic wilderness with no chance of being attacked by a bear, shark, or alligator.
Absolutely no air pollution.
Absolutely no water pollution.
Fantastic golf course with 18 million holes.*
And lunar tourists pay no bed taxes!

* this line is from an old TV commercial for Tang.

Oh yes, the perfect place for holidays!

For those who did not see it yet, our beloved Kris has posted a perfect advert for Lunar Tourism on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTp0PeVXB3U

Did the Americans ever set foot on the moon?

I bet the nazis would love a chance to present their point of view on the matter to the general public...

Oh, and apologies for the multiple shots. I am quite enjoying this. ;)

Science and science fiction: Feasibility of planetary Starbases

Another lecture point, perhaps?

Since the moon nazis would know loads on the subject...

Atlantis as the main theme + "Fantasy" elements

In fact, now that I think of it, I guess that the myth of Atlantis/Hyperborea could constitute the main theme of a nazifinncon on the moon! :-D

And if you wish to enlarge on to secondary themes... well, they could definitely have a room dedicated to "Fantasy" fiction with presentations concerning the search for the Ark of the Covenant, Holy Grail, and the Spear of Destiny...

And Harrison Ford should be captured... eh, invited! ;)

Some lecture/presentations about the Hyperboreans

Nazi mystics believed in a historical Thule/Hyperborea as the ancient origin of the Aryan race. Much of this fascination was due to rumours surrounding the Oera Linda Book "found" by Cornelis Over de Linden during the 19th Century. The Oera Linda Book was translated into German in 1933 and was favored by Heinrich Himmler. The book has since been thoroughly discredited.

...perhaps the kind of political "science fiction" the moon nazis would appreciate and present to the world?
