Description

Please ask for more information before doing any of these things. I have listed the models needed to do those models, and all the models needed will be added to this header when they are ready.

To do list:

-Guard robot
Huge robot, which guards the computer room. It has one big gun and it's quite slow moving.

-Walker (stickman model required)
Two legged human fighting machine which has two fast machine guns and a stickman driving it.

-Battle soldier (stickman, flame-thrower and mini-gun models required)
Heavily armoured soldier with flame thrower or mini-gun.

Current animation state

Here is the newest animating file and a render. Render don't work in Windows media player, but VLC and media player classic will play it.

Here is the model of a SWAT stickman. Gun is missing.

There is one sharpshooter in the movie, but I'm not going to make a separated model for it.

(null) May 21, 2010 13:44 Flag

If it's a soldier that's fine without a visor, I just thought if it was a sharpshooter it might have some kind of eye protection.

Daniel Saarimäki May 21, 2010 13:38 Flag

That was in mind, but I didn't make it... I said that this is a SWAT stickman, but it's more like elite soldier. I can make the visor, but I don't need this model for a long time.

Joel Saarimäki May 21, 2010 13:38 Flag

I don't think visor could be good... What do you do with a visor when mutant is cutting you from the middle? I personally think some cool swat commando eguipments in helmet would be good.

(null) May 21, 2010 00:13 Flag

Maybe he could have a visor or something?

Jansson made a better version already.

(null) May 21, 2010 00:14 Flag

For this style of animation, I would go for the second version (subsurf).

Walker boned

I added armature to the walker and edited the materials. What could be a good material for the interior (blue now)?

kk

David Jansson May 17, 2010 17:00 Flag

Oh, yes. You are supposed to use the bone called Head for moving the whole head. Bone.002.Bk.004 is supposed to be left alone.

Daniel Saarimäki May 17, 2010 16:29 Flag

This is going on nicely.

Bone.002.Bk.004 bone (on the head) moves the teeth, but not the lip.

New mutant

Mutant style remake. This model was originally made for our horror short, but what prevents me using it here also? Rigging isn't ready. I haven't done rigging for a while and I actually forgot how to do it. I have to check it out from my book again...

Aaaaaaand... Another way to prevent me from doing rigging :)

Check the third one.

Daniel Saarimäki April 10, 2010 14:48 Flag

I hate rigging, so I quickly made a new way to survive with out it. That new mutant works so well, but it looks like stupid. What do you think? It could maybe fit to my movie.

Try to pose it! It's really fun!

Daniel Saarimäki April 09, 2010 14:52 Flag

It's going to be re-done at least once again.

PS It's made by Joel

Dog - now posable

Well, not completely. But I have fixed the legs.

I just don't know about the colouring, needs work...

I learned something interesting that works with the stick figures as well. Make sure that the armature is before the subsurf in the modifier hierarchy. It will deform a lot better.

Edit: New version, trying to simplify the heads to avoid deform problems. I have decided to make most of the facial expressions with shape keys. Bones for the ears, nose and lower jaw. Shape keys for eyebrows and lips. As long as I can simplify enough around the Jaw joint this should turn out great.

Try. I used gaze bone in the A Dog and A Christmas Tree film for the dog and it worked well.

David Jansson April 05, 2010 10:51 Flag

Doesn't it get a bit walleyed if I track it to a gaze bone?

David Jansson April 05, 2010 10:50 Flag

Thanks! I fixed the neck. But she can't sit right yet without crumpling her hips...

Daniel Saarimäki April 02, 2010 15:54 Flag

Are you sure you don't want a gaze bone? Gaze bone is a bone, where eyes are being tracked to. It's good idea if you don't want to make stupid looking look.

Joel Saarimäki April 02, 2010 15:43 Flag

Great!

Daniel Saarimäki April 01, 2010 17:16 Flag

Niiiiiiiiice.

David Jansson April 01, 2010 07:21 Flag

Model updated, with tongue and finished armaturing.

Daniel Saarimäki February 13, 2010 12:50 Flag

I know that.

David Jansson February 13, 2010 12:07 Flag

Thank you for the walkthrough.

The reason some parts don't deform is that I haven't finished with making vertex groups yet.

Daniel Saarimäki February 12, 2010 16:09 Flag

Those deforms for that dog are wonderful. Head (both heads) isn't covered by envelope so it deforms weirdly (don't deform at all). Leg deforms are brilliant. You should also make a gaze bone for eyes. Make one free bone (unparented and unconnected) and make those two bones to point to it with "track to" modifier. It's easier to control the eyes then.

For bone driven shapes, make two shape keys. Basis and some other. Then, go to shape IPOs tab, select the other (not basis) shape and press N. Type the name of the armature to the driver field, select pose driver and type the name of the bone. I don't remember how to adjust those values, but Xmin and Xmax represent the bone value wich drives the shape and Ymin and Ymax represent the shape influence value (I don't remember was this right).

Daniel Saarimäki February 12, 2010 12:50 Flag

I can tell you but I don't have time now.

David Jansson February 12, 2010 07:47 Flag

No. I hadn't heard of that. It sounds like I would do well to check it up. I need to go to school now, if I am not too tired afterwards I will look into it, otherwise, tomorrow.

Daniel Saarimäki February 11, 2010 12:40 Flag

Does this need any fur anymore?

Have you heard about bone-driven shape keys? With little tweaking you can control shape keys by simply rotating one bone. It's easier to key and control.

David Jansson February 10, 2010 20:51 Flag

Damn!

Anyway, updated blendfile.

Daniel Saarimäki February 10, 2010 09:26 Flag

That problem isn't there anymore but... NO! You can't have my computer :D

David Jansson February 09, 2010 19:56 Flag

Hmm. I think I have fixed that and uploaded a new file, I just didn't bother with a new screenshot.

Can I have your computer?

Daniel Saarimäki February 09, 2010 17:00 Flag

I think I can see a problem in the left front leg...

Anyway, I'm now writing from my new computer :D It's a bullet! It runned the preview video of the "A dog and a christmas tree" animation file with (allmost) all objects visible and in solid mode at full speed! Rendering is LOT faster now.

Joel Saarimäki February 08, 2010 07:13 Flag

Great! I think that is good colouring.

First steps animated!

I got the first steps of the assistant animated and I also found out how to slow the animation. Previous parts are on the other shot. Say what you think!

I add two versions. Other one is better, but you need VLC player to play it and the mp4 (zip packed because WAM doesn't support it) version is lower quality but Windows Media Player can play it.

I will do some fixes and then I will upload it. I have so many renders that I will have a mess if I upload them all. I could delete them but it will be a mess. This video here, is just a few seconds render from the part where assistant walks. It don't contain the start. I will animate the movement of the X and then I add it to youtube. Just wait.

Daniel, I think more people would comment if you put these onto YouTube?
