General Usability and Texts
DescriptionPlease let us know about your general usability improvements to WRECK A MOVIE. Feel free to upload markups of screenshots and show examples of how things should be done for your best experience. We are also looking to improve our texts. If something could be clearer or is flat out wrong please Give us a shot about it.
ShotsOverview change on first pageI'm thinking that overview on the first page is not very practical. I mean you only see the last four changes/additions. Then you have to scroll to see the rest.
Permanent URLsHave you changed the film URLs after the update? Please, never ever change the existing URLs. Ever. It messes up links and bookmarks, which makes people angry. Otherwise the new pages look pretty good! CommentsWe did change film urls one time when there was 3 productions but I think you're talking about Star Wreck 2pi's url changing. There was doubles of that production and projects leader asked it to be changed. New url looks much better, please don't be angry at us :) On a larger scale, we are committed to keep our url-structure as constant as possible. noreply@starwreckstudios.comIs it possible to change the sender's address for the WAM mail from noreply@starwreckstudios.com to wreckamovie@starwreckstudios.com? Timo. CommentsThis shot doesn't have comments. Films pageBrowsing the productions on the Films page, clicking the producction takes me directly to the list of tasks. Clicking the film, I usually want to find out what it is rather than see the available taks. Wouldn't it make more sense for the link to send me to Film Info page? (If I tag it as something to follow, then I can see the task lists much better, anyway.) Also, why not change the name of the page Films to Projects or Productions? There's at least tv series there now, and who knows what else will come. CommentsAgreed. On the films page, clicking on the production should take us to the film info page. BUT under the 'poster' image there should be a direct link to the tasks and maybe to the latest shot. Shouldn't take too much space to implement that. Or under the image, you could have a small bar with 'info/tasks/members/news'. The less clicks the better. Word, Mike. Good points, Mike. Linking the films to the info page could work better. There is going to be some changes in the film page itself. Sorting, statistics etc. About the name, yes there is going to be many other things than films in the future. Maybe productions would be the appropriate name for the page. Usability suggestionsHaving used the site for a while, I would propose the following changes (the screenshot is here to give the idea of what I mean, not as a final visualization): 1. The production name should be a heading for the tabs. That way the name is always visible and the context of the tabs (i.e. what content they are part of) is less ambiguous. Additionally, the tabs would get more visual attention - I browsed the site for a good while before even noticing the current tabs. 2. Recently completed tasks - it is good to show that something has been completed, too. It also gives the user an idea about what s/he will find after clicking the link. The completed tasks list could have fields about the outcome or result of the task, too. It is important to see that the shots have an impact on the production. 3. The completed tasks page needs an easy way to return to the tasks page. (Back button and the Tasks link in the ant path work, but there should be something in the task list as well.) 4. The red color hilighting the sorting property is too bright - it is not that important. A standard arrow icon or a duller color should work. 5. After typing this text and clicking the Accept and Submit button, I was asked for a login and this shot was lost. That should never ever happen! Anyway, the site looks nice. Keep up the good work! RegistrationBeing a legal text your "Terms of Use" are quite long and not easy understandable for the one that has lesser training in interpreting textes that hanlde legal issues. I see not way that you can re-write the text because it has to match some written and unwritten legal standards. But you can give your customers easier access to the text by summarizing the content either
I think the most crucial points are "copyright/-left" and "fees". btw: Are there any fees at the moment or is the ToU's chapter a template to be able to introduce fees at a later time? And I've spotted a mistake in a crucial part: "-Children Under Age 13"
CommentsThis shot doesn't have comments. CommentsWow, very scary... Did you paint this yourself Jussi? OMG! (screams, hides under sofa) Falsely by default marked checkboxWhen posting a new shot, the checkbox below the typing area for "Remove this task from your Todo list?" is marked by default. I doubt it should be, as more likely one posting a new shot to a task rather would follow that task. (I don't know the rule when this checkbox appears. Now, while posting this shot, there's no such checkbox. But I do see those when posting for Iron Sky.) It may be even, that checking or unchecking that check mark doesn't in effect even affect anything. I'm not sure about it, but I haven't noticed any change whichever the way I've left it. CommentsIf you have a task on your todo list, the checkbox is shown on the shot form. If you leave it checked task is removed from your todo list and if you uncheck it then it doesnt do anything to the todo item. Reasoning behind checking it by default is idea that you mark interesting tasks to your todo, and then when you want go and give a shot. Maybe this idea is skewed towards tasks with bigger shots like "draw a picture" or "compose a song" rather than "give your idea" which can more usually be done right away. I think you saying "one posting a new shot to a task rather would follow that task" tells something about other problem we have. It is pretty hard to follow what is going on, what is new, what is interesting? We are working on this but it is pretty hard problem to tackle. But I would like to have other opinions on the remove todo item checkbox. WAM front pageHere's a couple of suggestions for the front page. 1) Could there be a scrolling feature to view the recent activity instead of arrows which give previous and next pages? The scrolling page could be for example 20 items long by default and the number could be changed in My Wreck. (See attached pic) 2) The shot texts could maybe hold also the task for which they were submitted. It would be for example "Toni Lihs gave a shot "UEF Colonization" for the task NASA Moon Mission 2018 for Iron Sky". CommentsThis shot doesn't have comments. rss feedsI'm using rss feed to following productions and there should be also feeds in tasks and shots.. because major part of productions happends that way and now i can get updates only from news.. CommentsI pushed updates few days ago and now the productions feed includes new news, tasks and announcements. Please leave feedback how it´s working for your needs. I am a bit concerned that the traffic could really get quite high in the longer term. Maybe there is a way we could create an RSS feed for the My Wreck Dashboard info...... that actually sounds good.. too much annoucments in same feed don't sound so good... I´ve been testing with feeds that would include latest news, announcements and tasks, but now when you said it, shots could also be pretty nice thing to follow through feeds.
