One thing I think you should do is making a box that says "mark all as viewed" in the dashboard section so you don´t have do click everyone if you haven´t been in on WAM for a while.

Peoples listing

That is a fine feature.

BUT when I tried to sort the peoples list by location, it gives me the people first that have not written any location to their profiles. And therefore it is not very useful information. I have to start the browsing from the last pages if I want some valuabe information about where everyone is located.

There is something to develope there to improve the usability.

Previews

It would be nice if you could have a preview option before you post news, a task, shot or comment. That way you can see if you got the formatting and links right.

Also, you can make a bold asterisk by typing five of them.
Normal *
Inclined *
Emboldened: *

But what if you want to write five or three asterisks?

Noted. Right now you just need to publish, check out what it looks like and then go back and edit. Agree that it's a bit of a hassle, but we have some other features that are a bit higher on the priority list, so afraid we will not get the preview feature done anytime soon. Have it on our list of stuff to do.
The asterisk formatting is a in the same nice to have category, will have a more elegant formatting tool in the future, but can't promise it real soon.

Overview change on first page

I'm thinking that overview on the first page is not very practical. I mean you only see the last four changes/additions. Then you have to scroll to see the rest.
It would be great if could have a list or that you only see the changes since your last visit.
An altervative a list could also be a list with all changes to one project bellow the pictures. The people might only click on the stuff they see on the first page, and less popular projects, become even less popular, because they are never or only birefly showed on the first page.

Don't worry, we are on the case. The next release will have a better front page and we really want to keep improving it. Appreciate the feedback, keep it coming, we'll do our best to improve things.

Timo-Heikki Mäkelä November 23, 2009 22:00 Flag

This task still needs attention. The "four shots list" on the front page/"scroll list" on the next is a major pain in the a$$ IMHO. Those large poster images for each shot simply take too much space and give a poor representation of the activity at site as a whole.

I suggest the "scroll list" should be replaced by a page with thumbnails showing dozens of the latest active shots at once. Hovering over a thumbnail could then show more info and possibly the task even directly.

Thumbnails could also be used to show the catalogue of all films in desired ways:
- alphabetical order
- by type
- by phase of production
- by other search criteria

We are trying to make the Dashboard the place to see what has been happening in the Wreck A Movie community. Suggestions on missing information is wanted :). The idea is to show only things relevant to the currently logged in user, so e.g. comments to your shots, tasks in your productions.

The front page is also going to change, but it is still work in progress.

Closing comments

It would be nice to be able to close the comments when you've read them. A simple 'Close comments' link next to the 'Jump to comment form' -link should do the trick.

When there are more than a couple of comments, it's tedious to scroll past them when viewing tasks. When i've watched other people browse the site for the first time, they seem to be intuitively looking for a way to close them.

Peter, thanks for publicly taking notice of our suggestions, and don't worry if you can't do them all. Obviously some things are a higher priority than others and there are only limited resources on any project.

Peter Vesterbacka October 20, 2009 22:51 Flag

Added to the list of things to do. We fixed some problems with search etc today, so hopefully the experience is a bit better again. The backlog is pretty long, but we hope that we will be a bit better at introducing new features soon. We have added some more people to the team developing the platform and hope to get the store and such up and running shortly.

(null) October 20, 2009 17:53 Flag

(which is basically what Jani was suggesting) :)

(null) October 20, 2009 17:52 Flag

Ahaaa...

Okay, what about a "close" option that replaces the link which opens them?

Jani Salomaa October 20, 2009 17:51 Flag

They're closed when you open the tasks page. But after you click to view comments on some task, you won't be able to close them again. This forces you to scroll through them all to view the next shot.

For example, open http://www.wreckamovie.com/tasks/show/133 , click on the comments for "WAM in Wikipedia?" and then see how far you have to scroll to get to the next task...

(null) October 20, 2009 17:37 Flag

The comments are closed by default when you're viewing a list of tasks. Which pages are you talking about?

66 Tasks matching your wreckupations?!?

I think the "task matcher" in "mywreck" is a little too trigger happy lately. Do I really want a list of 66 tasks? Not really ;-)

I mean it's not really a bug, but it's not too user friendly either. What about only including tasks that are NEW? At least it could exclude tasks I set up MYSELF... Just an idea ;-P

But, as always; Keep up the good work :D

Cheers,
KMH

Yeah I think that would help... Well personally, I think at the moment the feature of showing you matching tasks is quite unnecessary anyway. Most wreckers seem to be interested in certain projects so I think they will see for themselves if any interesting new tasks have been posted...

Nightie,
KMH

The problem is perhaps more to do with project leaders selecting too many wreckupations for their tasks.

Maybe there should be a limit of 2 or 3 wreckupation per task?

Slooooooooow.... ?!?

Not sure if this is the right task but...

WAM has become painfully slow in the last days! Not when browsing, only when posting... Once you try to submit a form, it takes ages and more often than not, nothing ever happens again. Strangest thing is, if you load that same page in another browser, your submitted changes already appear - but in the window you posted in, nothing really happens... Except for a message like "waiting for www.wreckamovie.com" or something on the bottom.

Is it just me? I've tried it from differenent terminals with different providers, browsers and IPs...?

Thanks for listening,
Kalle Max :-)

We're looking into it. I'm pretty certain what's causing the slowdown and what to do to fix it.

Kalle Max Hofmann May 28, 2009 08:20 Flag

Hahha as you can see above, you should also disable hyperlink detection inside quote marks ;D

Editing production before publishing it

Adding production feature is missing possibility to edit newly added production before publishing it. Therefore user has to add all details at once, which is not very good, since user does not know the asked questions before going thru the whole add production wizard.

This could be fixed by adding next to Publish button an Edit button, which starts the wizard again showing the data entered last time.

The production creation "wizard" improvements are pretty high priority. In addition to the edition problem you mention, if you go back to the first screen using the browsers back-button, second production will be created. Understandably this causes confusion.

For now, only solution is to just publish the production and edit it after that.

Losing form entries

I just wrote a long description of my first experience with WAM, submitting it only to find out that I had been logged out in the meantime. When going back in my browser (IE7) history to the form entry page, it was immediately reloaded and replaced with a version saying I had to log in, and the text I had entered was thereby lost to me. I should have written it in a separate editor rather than directly in the browser.

Would it be possible not to trigger reloading of form pages in situations like this one? Maybe you could even allow previously logged in users to submit form entries they have been allowed to begin entering? If the problem is specific to certain browsers (such as IE), maybe you can simply warn users about it? I normally use Firefox, but I haven't tried it in this situation on WAM.

I hope to be able to relate my first experience with WAM some other day. You deserve it for providing such a nice collaborative environment behind a formidable roadblock that, initially, almost made me give up on you.

Anders Andersson January 08, 2009 02:23 Flag

Thank you! I'm not sure about what actually triggered the reload; it may be that my browser was poorly configured. Now I'm back home where I only use Firefox Mozilla, and Page Info says "Not specified" about the expiry date, so I trust you when you say that you don't deliberately reload any pages.

For now, I'll continue investigating the site, but I will return to this matter if and when I find anything that may contribute to a solution. I agree with you that it will hardly be detectable by long-time users staying logged in forever, but it would of course be nice if we can give first-time users an easier time too.

Vesa Nieminen January 05, 2009 16:53 Flag

I'm sorry for the loss of your text. Just the other day I was filling a credit card application for 30 minutes and after sending 'Your session has ended' and *puff* my hard work was gone. I can totally relate to you.

We are not deliberately reloading any pages after going to previous page and I haven't seen this behaviour happening to me, but I'm mostly logged in with the remember me-option on.

I have to check IE7 out and try if I can repeat the problem. If anybody has same kind of experiences, leave a comment.
