Plasma pistol

Looks like sh*t but still good for my movie. I could give this gun to the assistant and put Sample to make joke with it until he finds out that it's actually a good weapon.

Modelled with the new Blender. When opening in the older version, just ignore the error message. You just lose all the IPOs.

2D weapons with PAINT

I made some 2D weapons with PAINT!! I used a real image as a model when making them. They look so real.

I didn't ment these to fit to the style of the movie. I made them for other reason and just published them here. I made them to look as authentic as possible (with limitations of Paint pixel graphics).

I have changed my style with weapons and currently I'm trying to get results like this. I have splitted the weapons into two groups. Weapons wich were invented in the lab (scifi like) and those weapons wich came with the soldiers (authentic).

They look authentic! :)

But would they suit the visual style of the film?

The script and all the stuff

It just struck me. I have read the script, and are there really room for all these weapons and robots in it? If you are going to it all this in I think you will get a disproportionate amount of pure action sequences to the amount of dialogue and story that Sample has. Do you have a plan for how everything will be used in the movie?

I guess that makes sense.

And you get a whole other impression if as much work is put into things in the background as the things that are in focus. Things unimportant for the basic story is still important for it to feel real. Yes, it does make sense.

So, never mind this shot. I was obviously confused.

Joel Saarimäki February 04, 2010 15:53 Flag

Sample is an ACTION movie. There is dialogue in action parts. It isn't just written into script. About weapons... When Sample moves with soldiers, some soldiers have special weapons like sniper rifles and flamethrowers.

We have thinked about making a game for a looooooong time, but there are two problems. My BGE doesn't work currently (I look if it's going to be fixed when I change computer) and I just don't have enough time becase of this project. I make the movie first and maybe that game then.

David Jansson February 04, 2010 15:03 Flag

Wait a minute, in light of the shot I just wrote, do you intend to make a Sample game? In that case the number of weapons and robots make sense.

Daniel Saarimäki February 01, 2010 12:46 Flag

Cool. I think I'm going to use this one instead. Thanks. Next, you could study BGE and make a sharpshooting game XD. I have tried to make games with BGE but some code libraries are missing from my build so I can't use mousetracking or collision sensors. NAH! I can send you some of my demos if you want to...

Working chainsaw

I just wanted to see if it could be done.

First bake the particle system of cube.002. Then bake the particle system of the red cube.

Last, change the visualization of the cube.002 particle system to none.

Render.

I try this when I get my new computer (should be here until friday) because this slows down too much. I can imagine what it looks like.

Scoped rifle

Here is a scoped rifle made by Joel. It's not finished.

It's a lot more snipery now. Krapow!

Daniel Saarimäki January 31, 2010 17:19 Flag

What do you think about the rifle now?

Daniel Saarimäki January 31, 2010 16:11 Flag

Don't ask me if you want to upload something. Just upload! If it's silly, we can just let it stay here and forget it.

Stucking with ideas is actually really good. That rifle looks like it's a toy and a scope lens would make it more "real". Remember that the difference between madnes and intelligence isn't allways clear :D

David Jansson January 31, 2010 15:49 Flag

Yeah, it would be kind of pointless. But still...

This is why I never get done, I get stuck in ideas like this. For example, I made the chainsaw work yesterday. Want me to upload?

Daniel Saarimäki January 31, 2010 15:46 Flag

Where do I need that? I could make it look like real but where do I need that kind of view. Remember that all fights happen inside a building so there isn't even a need for a scope. It's there just because it looks good :)

David Jansson January 31, 2010 15:43 Flag

I wonder if you could use raytracing to make an actual working lens in the scope?

Daniel Saarimäki January 31, 2010 15:34 Flag

This was made by Joel and I just quickly updated it. I haven't had time to finish it because I try to start animating and I need characters for that.

David Jansson January 30, 2010 17:44 Flag

I just realized why it didn't feel right for a sniper rifle.

Sniper rifles tend to have smaller ammo clips and longer barrels.

Had some fun with the chainsaw

I did some teeth for the chainsaw. Animated and all.

Edit4: I made the tip of the chainsaw a bit more blunt, looks better as you see mor of the teeth when they turn I think.

Edit3: I fixed it!

Edit: Forgot to make the chainsaw parent to the path...

Edit: I just realized that I made a mistake, the teeth are all offset 0.3 frames on the path. Because they are really all in the same place. That means there is one speed for the chainsaw, and if you change it you change the distance between the blades. Also, if you do a speed curve that is anything else than linear the distances between the blades won't remain the same throughout the path.

There must be a better way to get the teeth evenly spaced along the path. If you can fix it and use it, Yay. Otherwise, it was fun to do.

Go ahead.

David Jansson January 30, 2010 20:02 Flag

Would you mind if I put the chainsaw in the weaponr ack that is supposed to be on the Plingon Bridge in Stick Wreck?

Daniel Saarimäki October 23, 2009 15:09 Flag

That chainsaw is quite perfect now. I added colour and rendered an image. I add the file to header and put an image to image gallery.

Daniel Saarimäki October 21, 2009 08:21 Flag

I try that later.

David Jansson October 19, 2009 17:49 Flag

Sorry, apparently there are 24 paths. I edited them so that you can see all 24 Teeth.

David Jansson October 19, 2009 17:31 Flag

I cheated. Made a little hood for the blades to disappear into.

There are 22 paths, one for every tooth. I don't know how to edit every one at once...

Daniel Saarimäki October 19, 2009 15:07 Flag

I added two holes (one to top and one to bottom) so that teeth can go there. Now only problem is your curve. It don't go inside the chainsaw. Teeth start in front of the hole and disappear before the bottom hole.

I don't know much about curves and your settings so I uploaded the model (gun models-shot updated) and I didn't color the blades. You can do the curve things first (if you want to).

Daniel Saarimäki October 19, 2009 14:45 Flag

I weren't at imagicon :(

I were thinking about that hole too. I make it today and add some color to blades (again). I will upload the model to the header when it's ready and add a new image to image gallery.

David Jansson October 19, 2009 09:35 Flag

Maybe there should be a hole where the teeth emerge? I just looked at your screenshot in the image gallery, and it has the top of a tooth poking out from solid metal.

David Jansson October 19, 2009 09:27 Flag

Don't worry about being off for the weekend, I was too. I was at Imagicon, was that were you went too? Because if that were the case, GAAAAH!

Daniel Saarimäki October 16, 2009 09:45 Flag

I upload colored model after weekend.

Daniel Saarimäki October 16, 2009 09:44 Flag

Oh well, you used your model instead of my newest model (uploaded the edited model to header). I have to color the blades again :)

I spotted that MBLU-button. Thanks for advice.

Daniel Saarimäki October 16, 2009 09:40 Flag

BTW, I'm off for weekend so don't wonder if I don't say anything here.

Daniel Saarimäki October 16, 2009 09:39 Flag

I know more about particles. If you want to learn, I prefer to take a look at Tony Mullen's book "Bounce, Tumble, and Splash! Simulating the Physical World with Blender 3D". It's wonderful.

I don't know much about motion blur but I think it looks cool.

I try to manage with those curves and other things (I know as much about them as you propably know about particles).

David Jansson October 15, 2009 14:34 Flag

Oh, Motion Blur was easy, just press MBLU in the Render panel.

David Jansson October 15, 2009 14:14 Flag

(I edited the shot, it's now the file with the fixed blade.)

David Jansson October 15, 2009 14:10 Flag

I accidentally added a particle effect to the missing blade. When removed, all was well. I don't know how to use particles. And I am a bit sketchy on this whole material deal.

Every one of the teeth has it's own path. Don't use the speed curves of the teeth paths to change it, use the time IPO in ObipoTeeth.

The steeper the faster. Levelled line means Teeth standing still. If you let the curve go downwards the teeth will move backwards. I think there is a way to add motion blur to objects, but I don't know how. I think it would make things look cooler if you were to add some of that to the teeth.

Daniel Saarimäki October 14, 2009 18:39 Flag

I spotted two problems:

1. When I rendered an image, one blade disappears and there is a hole (see image gallery. third blade in the bottom line).

2. I tried to add color to two blades, but they were colored only little. I clicked them twice and it came out with another object. I added color to it also and everything is fine now.

When I opened the material editor, it was messed up. Windows were stacked in front of other windows and the were all separated. Have you anything to do with this XD.

Daniel Saarimäki October 14, 2009 18:22 Flag

Thanks a LOT. I didn't plan to make blades, but that looks awensome. I don't know much about acton editor and NLA (going to learn when proceeding to animation) but I try to manage. Also, I have NEVER used curve path in my animations :), but I try to manage with it also.

Nice to hear that it was fun :D.

By the way, you forgot to add materials to the blades. I add them and put this to the task header.

Gun models

there isn't enough space in the header so i just put the models here.

Edited: I put the edited chainsaw here. I don't overwrite the original and if I do, I'm not going to overwrite the file on my computer so it's still there.
