Description

Filmnoir has almost always had an orchestral dark soundtrack. Jazz and blues are also synonymous with the genre. With this grim gotham story i would like to explore new directions in musical landscapes as well. The original comic obviously does not contain a musical score but im quite sure it was ment to be jazzy funky crime thriller stuff.

In the age of digital animation and neo-noir, what should the musical score be like? What kind of an atmosphere would be cool and engaging?

Movie is set in the modern era +-10 years. Themes contain duality, schitzofrenia, betrayal, hope, salvation and love. Feel free to share your ideas of the musical and ambient sound featured in this production!

Maybe something like this?

And i got a dark ambient tune on my myspace- page myspace.com/endtimechannel which is called "Scene Three", maybe that one could fit....

The whole Album of the first song is here, maybe there is something that could inspire...

Very dark and ambient

I would go with the dark & ambient type of music with this one.

Here's a fine example from the soundtrack of the game Max Payne 2. Composed by Kärtsy Hatakka and Kimmo Kajasto.

I can also provide this kind of music if you are interested?

classical

I'd have to say definitly classical music as a score...dark and uplifting (for example mozart- o fortuna) that and the kind've music from the dark knight (orchestra classicall symphonies that make you feel depressed and can make you feel good

Múm bleached in black

Islandic band Múm has a great sound, but has a way too positive a feel for your film.

But great evil themes are made from something positive turned into some perverse dark form.

Thus try Múm's water-themed album Finally We are No One, and find someone to make an EVIL version of it. That should be haunting enough.

Imagine this in twisted form:

Portishead

When I was reading your description I was listening to a great song by Portishead, called "Hunter":

I think this song along with many other Portishead songs might have the right atmosphere for fine reference material.

Acidic atmosphere..

The movies name made me think about that:

Well, maybe it doesn't fit in the film but great music anyway.

Dark Jazz

I would definitively recommend something that combines urban vibes - a tad of machines to the music - accompanied with dark jazzy sounds. There are few very good examples, that I would feel would work for Two of a Kind.

1. Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - the name says it all, plus a bit of machine sounds and brooding drumloops to fulfill the package.

2. Bohren & Der Club of Gore - The same but darker, and without any drumloops

3. Ulver - Norwegian ex-blackmetal band that turned into something of a urban mechanised nightmare.

Each of these bands are not huge names, so when presented with an intereseting concept & script, they would be both affordable and would propalby push a bit of extra effort to the soundtrack!

And here's some YouTube -links:

Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - Mephistopheles:

Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Midnight Black Earth:

Ulver - Limbo Central:
