Thumbs ranking
DescriptionOk, here's a task for adding new productions -functionality. Ideas & feedback is appreciated!
ShotsI am new here, but.......I can see that you plan on opening up your infrastructure to others that would like to start their own production- a great idea. However, I think something in the way of the Karma meter should be used to "grade" the production and the person proposing it. Naturally, if a producer is well organized and really on the ball with dead-lines and the such- the producer should (as well as the production) attract more people wanting-willing to work on that particular project- the only way of knowing this would be something like a "Karma" meter. Additionally, something on how many previous productions have been made should be there too- As a way of verifying the seriousness of the proposal. If this is not what you had in mind by your request, well, um, ...sorry? Gary "Ghost" productions if addition is terminated before completionI was just poking around and trying the Add Your Production feature, and didn't finish my submission, but now later when I look at my profile, I'm marked as the creator of the project I was about to submit. I think there needs to be a way to access these ghost or unfinished submissions later on so that people can either complete them or delete them. CommentsThanks, Vesa. This is exactly what I was hoping for! :) I added ability to publish or delete unpublished productions. Just go to your profile and there you see a list of unpublished productions and link to the "all done"-page for each production. Yes, but now the problem is that these productions are orphans - even I cannot access these uncompleted submissions I made. I only got on step 2 out of 4 for submitting the production. The thing is, I think the production, even unpublished ones, should be saved only after the final step is complete. Have a timeout check that if step 4 is not reached within say... 15 minutes, then the "open" submission is purged. We have to discuss on how we are going to make this. If people have suggestions, we are happy to hear them! I think it is also unsure how much you can do before publishing the production to the films page. Should you be able to start working with limited group of people? |

@Bradley
Very good comments, it's still early days for Wreckamovie and we are all learning about what works and what doesn't. So far we haven't had any major problems with our approach of letting anybody start their own production. The Karma system that we have in place is very simple, but gives some indication of how active the people are, ie gives some indication about the production as well. Right now I think it's the right approach let anybody start their own production as the community on here will very quickly figure out which productions are happening and which ones are not (number of tasks, shots and activity in general). We will try to add more measurements and better "karma" like systems going forward, feel free to suggest what you think would help.
We are also looking at more tools (wiki based) for the script side of the house as that is a very good way to evaluate projects. July will not see a lot of new features, but we hope to add quite a bit in August, so stay tuned. And as I said, all input is much appreciated! Thanks!
Hello...
I think we can level a project by:
. the karma of the main members (kmm)...
. the number of members (nm)...
. the number of members that gave up the project, with a plausible reason (mo)...
. the quality of participation in the tasks (t)
t=number of tasks*average nº of the answers*average nº of thumbs up
positive=kmm+nm+t
negative=mo*5
In the main page will be shown: Title X (positive, negative)
For example... this is just an example... with some more time it be much better...
As a brand new member, I may say some things here which are covered elsewhere, so my apologies.
But it does seem to me that the option to post a new project should possibly only come after having contributed to an existing project. I have a number of film ideas, and I would love to be allowed to to dive into the collaborative pool assembled here... but it seems to me that the right to ask for help should be earned first by offering it.
Perhaps that's not in the spirit of what you intended, but I assure you - without meaning to sound like a cynic - that the number of people eager to post projects and ask for help will ultimately dwarf the number of people willing to give it.
Also, taking a cue from a site like Linked In, you might consider an option that allows members to personally vouch for another person's "work ethic." I would like to see a tab on each member's page where names can be added and searched for globally. If a hundred members recommend you on their page, that's valuable information. But it's equally valuable to know that a single person with - what' the paradigm here? Karma? - a single person with a high Karma rating who recommends you is also very much worth knowing.
Obviously, the more pre-production material a film maker can post, the easier it is for others to evaluate it's potential - not only from a creative standpoint, but also one of feasibility. A series of storyboards or an animatic would give members a chance to evaluate the material they are getting involved with. Finally, I haven't seen any scripts or script fragments posted here, only very short synopses. Wouldn't a script be the ideal way to evaluate a project? Or is that usually handled off-site, on a website dedicated specifically to a project, for instance?
Thanks for listening - I'm glad to be here!

I like the idea of a "Karma meter". In fact I just logged in to suggest another type of ranking - based on actual the phase the production is in - but Karma does sound different - more based on the seriousness of the production and team judged subjectively by outsiders.
I would make Karma some sort of a general grade of "seriousness" of a production subjectively assessed by visitors.
a few more detailed ideas.
1. As I had mentioned before, the use of a "karma" meter or such device to evaluate the person (or team) making the proposal. The point system could simply be based on how many projects were followed through to completion. (regardless of market success.)
Of course this system could (and probably would) lead to a kind of elite structure, where someone new making a proposal would find it hard or near impossible to get people interested in their project...
So,
2. Peer reviewed project proposals. The proposed project would undergo public review (by the community) for one or two weeks, where everyone would have a chance to vote (or grade) the project. on predetermined points. ex. General feasibility, Plot, Preparedness and things like that. After the public review process, a "Karma" score could be calculated and assigned to the project.
I think this would level the field for people who have just joined, who have a really great idea, but are rather unknown. Additionally, if someone has been making "good" movies for some time, but has a crazy idea, which no-one thinks will work, they can carry over their "karma" points to give their pet project a boost.
Penalties.
3. "karma" points could be taken away for missed deadlines, abandoned projects, "a lot of" negative feed back or other things the powers that be deem "uncool"
Buying "Karma".
4. I am not sure about the legality of this, or if this is even a road you want to go down; but, giving people the option of buying "karma" for their project may be a way of generating funds for costs outside of the "Karma economy" (perhaps devaluing the Euro by half (1€ = .5k ) okay, that was a bit of a joke.....
Personal "karma" vs Project "Karma"
5. Members of a project could be given the option of donating their personal "Karma" to the project's "Karma" showing their loyalty and dedication to that project. (this could help control those who join a project, and are given tasks, but have no intention of actually helping or contributing to the project.)
So, those are my five ideas with details. I do not think they are perfect as they are and in some ways may actually be difficult to implement. (point 4 in particular) But i do think the first two points could be put in place, with out too much work and would help to show the general seriousness of the project and the likelihood of completion.
Gary
I think you are right. We should find a way to kinda underline the seriousness and the propability of completion of the project. Any ideas?
