Universal suffrage

Universal suffrage is in Eldonia not that common, Humans, Dwarves, the Kloen and Prawd generally don't have universal suffrage.
Orks and Elves are the exception, Orks tend to act like the Sarmatian tribes who lived in current day Ukraine, the Sarmatian virgins did have to kill a foe before they would be able to marry, this way weak and coward woman would not survive to carry weak and coward children. The Ork society goes even further in their eyes a boy and a girl should both have killed a foe before marring. Some societies even tend to send engaged couples away to raid towns an villages, mostly elf and human villages for they are physically the weakest races on Eldonia.
Elves have universal suffrage for an entirely different reason. For them a man and a woman are equal, because they need each other to live on and have children together. For the elves who commit themselves entirely to study and knowledge a marriage is something that should keep the knowledge of their ancestors safe. (Not that they did a good job with Artistry)
Except from these there are a few other nations that have universal suffrage, this universal suffrage is more likely to be short-lived and is put in place when there aren't enough men to do all the work, most of the time the end of universal suffrage goes together with executions of dark spirits that conquered the bodies of women.
In the more civilized nations universal suffrage is although an institution that was put in place because it was impossible to go on without (idem above) it isn't abolished mainly because women invaded the political circles and are stopping the abolishment with all means.

Another Eldonia related drawing I made. Colouring on the computer starts going more easily now.

Vision on Eldonia

The way I see it Eldonia is a preindustrial world but with better transport possibilities (the art of flying with cryroot, use of magnetism for trains etc) but the main part of the industrial activity happen at home or at (government funded) workshops that make things for the poorer masses.
In human society the masses are farmes cultivation lands under protection of a standing army. The main stream human society is much like in medieval times here.
The other races can live differently: dwarfs who are smaller and need less food populated larger cities in the valleys and dig for ores and minerals, sometimes they live together with a taller race who are able to work on the farms, some sort of symbiotic community.
Elfs for example are fascinated by knowledge, they have the most sophisticated machinery to make a days work less hard, or even have slaves.
Orcs have a slave funded militaristic society, they live in various little empire who are constant struggling with each other for supremacy over a territory, the enemies they capture become slaves (these slaves can be from all kinds)
Prawd live in small communities in places that are for others dangerous like swamps, the toxic gasses coming out of these swamps are dangerous for other kinds but not for Prawd. They are most notably to be found in large rain forests where they hunt and live. They used their strange legs to run away from enemies or to hunt.
Kloen live in deserts due to their head tails where they can stock food they are able live for a long time in the most extreme circumstances, they are also most known as explorers and many nations hire Kloen crews for expeditionary ships.

Other life on Eldonia

I was wondering if it could be possible to create a new task for fauna and flora in Eldonia, that would be fun.

PS: perhaps it's a good idea to make a database with all the idea's we already have and put it in the description so we have a clear view about what Eldonia already is.

Eldonian Names

Human: the human race gives three names: A first name, a middle name that is the fathers name (some nations use the mothers name), and a family name.
So a Human in Eldonia would be named: Liana Enarc Zion
As always the Odeseans like to be different: their naming system is like this: Family name and first name. Like this: Zion-Liana. It is NOT common to say the family name and the fist name as one name, but there are some exceptions. When the family name is like a first name or they mach really well together it can be said: Maria-Eva.

Elf: The Elves use a system rather similar to that of the Humans, but give the names of the parents as middle names. If the Elf is a girl the fathers name will come first if it's a boy the mothers name: Liana Enarc Nimmea Zion.

Prawd don't give fixed family names, the second name refers to what the person is in society: Liana y Ponope (she who thinks)
Oviously the Prawd give the second name after the woman becomes of age.

Dwarfs: the dwarfs tend to give one name at birth and then different surnames that change over time: Liana the Silent but after a year Liana With-the-Scar after an accident.

The Kloen: Like the elves and do the same as they do.

The Orcs: they give one name and where she come from: Liana qi Merixana (From Merixana)

Solar system.

Up for review

But that's isn't everything.
I had one of my late night idea's again, so I'll post it before I forget it.

Remember that volcano in the middle of the bay on the westeren continent? well since it's there so alone I thought giving it some extra mystery: every night at at midnight the moon Eclipsis will stand right above the volcano, thus making the mountain a holy place for many centuries, the whole volcanic island is covered with shrines and temples and the remainings of temples. It's also the only place where are in a good angle to see a small part of the moon lit up by the reflection of sunlight by the other Eldonian Moon, this astronomical event has firstly been noted by Mois-Kha a Prawd astronomer.
It takes place once in a complete year.
People tend to say that it was from the volcano, that has become known under the name Eclipsis' Arrow, that those who mastered Artistry went to Eclipsis.
Much isn't known about Eldonia yet between the most powerful of nations there's a race, not one for weapons but one for knowledge.
I'll continue this later...

Human Impression

At last a coloured human, those familiar with my sketches will notice that she is 1) the same chick as a drew before in my last interpretation, 2) Odesean. Ik kept to Max statement that the human skin varies from light to dark brown. in Eldonia.

Pet dragons...

Also known as "fire-lizards". About 1m length from head to tail, would come in different color depending from their natural living habitat. Omnivorous species, they could be tamed upon removing the eggs from a nest. Upon birth, they would bond to the first living beings they would receive care from. They could be used by the local humans to hunt, as a falcon would. But they look much cooler and they are just as smart a chimpanzee would be. Only a prince or someone very rich would however be able to afford such a unhatched egg, as mummy lizard would put up quite a fight to protect her children...

They could look more or less like this:

Oh, cute little pet, where can I get one of these.

Austin Luppowitz January 06, 2010 01:39 Flag

Yeah, I was thinking that maby they use it as an advantage for eating. So they will find a horizontal branch to hang off of with their wings and use their hands to eat the food they got.
Them having 2 sets of hands has sooo many possibilities! haha I can't think of them now but i know they are there!

Angela R. January 05, 2010 23:37 Flag

Nicely spotted! My idea when adding graspers to the wings was to make it easier for them to climb on trees whilst at the same time holding something in their other hands. :)

Austin Luppowitz January 05, 2010 22:40 Flag

That Picture Shows two sets of hands, (the ones on its arms and the ones on its wings) I think it would be cool if they kept that ability to grab stuff with hands and wing like in the picture.

Wildlife

The wildlife, i dont think you have covered yet? have you seen the new movie avatar? the animals in that are quite uniqe and extravegant, the foliage is maybe a bit too extravegant, but i may do some drawings about what i am thinking, i am also interested in elves, and i may do some concepts of what is in my brain for them also.

not if the airs moist

Angela R. January 05, 2010 10:52 Flag

Wouldn't such a high concentration of oxygen cause fires to be very frequent?

Austin Luppowitz January 02, 2010 04:15 Flag

Just a quick suggestion, I think that EldOnia should be Very Very Oxygen Rich. As in, there is much more amounts of O in the air than there is CO2. Because of the boost in O the foliage bursts out in growth. Also changing the color of water in deep forests.
Idk, it sounded better in my head, but I guess it gives you guys something to think of.

Languages

I think that the main language in the game should be English (or whatever the player chooses) and then when the creatures want to speak secrets to each other they use their own language. But you give people the option to learn the language, not learn it in the game, but actually learn it as a second language in real life.
The Language Na'vi from avatar is here to learn:
http://www.learnnavi.org/
I think we should do something similar to that. And what the people of eldOnia say in that language could be something to help the player (teasure, xp, whatever) but it shouldn't be required to learn.
It's not very hard to make a language either, especially sense your world can be any way you want, it doesn't have to follow any guidelines unless you place them.
If you want I could help make it out! It doesn't have to have a huge vocabulary, it can be just some base words of 100-200. Or you can make the whole thing, doesn't matter.

Dragon farms?

Something I haven´t seen is Dragon farms.

I don´t know how you have tought about the dragons. Where they live, what they eat, are they rare or plentiful, how many specis or who uses them.

But A dragon farm would be a nice touch to the world of Eldonia, Of course if the farmer/breeder raises big dragons he will need a massive amount of land. Only really wealthey farmers can raise dragons and only 1-2 dragons at the same time because he will need alot of other livestock to feed the dragon.

Ohhh I can see it now. Jonas Hesslöw Dragon farmer. :)

i am deeply into fragons, and love this idea, i may have to do a few dragon drawings, or atleast attempt them, maybe dragonsa re loyal fighters and there are knight like elves (or humans) that ride them, wether normally or into battle.

Max Schellenberg September 25, 2009 00:45 Flag

Okay! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Jonas Hesslöw September 19, 2009 12:59 Flag

Well ofcourse they would let me use thier treasury. I can be trusted (ofcourse they would have gaurds cheking it all the time) ;P

And wing cliping can also be done so the scales grows back.

I´m goona do a dragonfarm photo and post here later.
I´m dying to hear what you think :D

Max Schellenberg September 17, 2009 00:51 Flag

Well Im seeing the flying-dragons as the scaly kind and wing clipping may permanently keep them from ever flying and probably piss them off, lol. Cross breeding dragons sounds great, I like the dragon pet idea too, pirates can use them as parrots! The dragons are also more like animals so borrowing the kings treasury isn't necessary, assuming he would even let you use it! :P Maybe they like naturally like bright colours?

To teach them how to fly, you could just use an adult dragon to help, the world will be pretty populated with flying dragons so it would be a common sight, although a teaching mechanism sounds cool!

Jonas Hesslöw September 15, 2009 14:48 Flag

Well thank you Max.

A name you say? Hmmmm......For the Flying, firespiting dragons?
How about Nidhoggs? Its the name for the big serpent Dragon that eats the roots of The world tree (Yggdrasill) in norse mythology. Or sould it be something origanal? How about Drachos? pronounced "Dracos"
I´m no good at names...

If I had a Dragon farm I would treat the dragon with respect and take the best care of them because they are highliy intelligent and would probably kill me if I were reckless enough. Dragons like gems and jewels so I would ask the ruler of my land for access to the The empires treasury for keeping the dragons content, in return they would get a steady supply of dragons to thier army for half the usual price.
But the dragons in eldOnia are maybe less intelligent and therefore treated more like animals in that case I would wing-clip the dragons while I raise them instead of having them in a cage. When they are domesticated I will let the wings grow to their full strengh so I could train flying with them.
I would maybe crossbreed diffrent dragons so that I can make better Dragons with more durable skin and make them easier to domesticate. My main customers would be the Empire or the goverment of that race I belong to. I would get fundings from them and I would supply them with mounts.
I would probably raise some "mini-Dragons" called Midras, That people can have att home as pets.

BTW how many dragons is there? I would love to draw some Eggs and maybe sketch out some of the farm for you.

P.s If you steal an egg from a dragon and succeeds to hatch it the dragon will think your´e its mother and therefore you´ll need a flying machine with flapping wings so you can teach the dragon to fly. Referring to that you wrote that eldOnia didn´t have Airplans. Dragon farmes will have to have something Airplanish with flaping wings. Hmmm.... To the drawtable!
D.s.

P.s 2. If you have more question about dragon farming just ask and I will try to anwser as best I can D.s.

Max Schellenberg September 15, 2009 02:48 Flag

Sounds good, dragons in eldOnia are what we call dinosaurs, don't worry the flying and fire breathing dragons are still there! Their just under the category of dragons, now we have to decide on what to call those type of dragons!

Im loving the dragon farms Jonas! Should the flying dragon farms be caged or should the dragons realize there master and stay? Breeding dragons sounds like good business!
