Closing Note

Another long overdue task closing, this one.
Kudos to Lord Fakenham for single handedly workin' it!

Description

It's always tough to talk about the craft of editing.
When it works, you rarely notice the edits themselves because you're fully engrossed in the story or mood of the film.

As a mental preparation and to gather inspiration for the editing phase - give us some examples of scenes where the editing really plays a key role in the storytelling. It can be anything, from any genre.

To set the tone, here's a great little film:

Le Samouraï

Jean-Pierre Melville's classic 'Le Samouraï' from 1967, with Alain Delon.
This film, together with 'Le Cercle Rouge' from 1970 - Both with Alain Delon cast as the main protagonist. Are two of my all time favourite films ever.

In this intro sequence from 'Le Samouraï - nothing really happens, before 3 minutes in. I just love the photography, the title screen/typography.. The bird chirping.. The whole atmosphere basically. The car stealing routine, is a recurring element in this film.

I think that, If one could find some inspiration from this, in any way. It would be to a great advantage for the production!

'Ham.

SVT Drama, 'Upp Till Kamp'

Courtesy of SVT Play!

Episode 4 of 4.
.. is an explosion in fast paced scenes intercut with archival footage.
You can't tell which is which.. Its like when you were a kid, and threw all your legos out over the entire floor, and sifted thru the lot to find that special piece so you could build your own unique little construction ;D

(But please do watch this great little miniseries in its entirety).

I've seen the whole series and was very impressed. It's spot on about my generation's parents. The sequence you linked to is amazing.

Death to the Tinman

DEATH TO THE TINMAN
..Is essentially more than a scene, it's a 12 minute movie.

But 12 minutes is really all it needs to blow your mind! Maybe even alot less than that..

It made me fall in love again, and it made me remember why and how much I love movies! I didn't even realize that my passionate relationship with movies
needed a 'quickening' but this is somewhat of a B12-shot of movievitamins!
The director, Ray Tintori - seems somewhat influenced by Wes Anderson and perhaps a little bit by Jim Jarmusch (Dead Man).. But he really manages to create something new, highly unique and amazing in this one!

See for yourself:

ENJOY! ;)

I liked this a lot, very imaginative. It certainly played on the "charm" axis, and I mean that as a positive thing. An odd choice but perhaps budget-wise necessary was that all dialogue seems to be dubbed in post. It gives an "otherworldly DIY" quality to the whole affair, but doesn't take anything away.
