Thumbs ranking
DescriptionI have a major flashback scene in the film taking place at a dragstrip, in 1955. I need to have one oak tree added in CGI, to be placed on the left side, at the very end of the dragstrip runway. I have several shots that are taken from the start line, looking out tpwards the end of the runway and those shots need the oak tree in them. The tree is only seen from a great distance, but should be present. This tree has a great significance for the plot and story. This is a key scene and largest flashback scene in the film. It involved over 60 actors / extras as well as 30 hotrods. I predict it will be become an all time favorites amongts the many car enthousiasts worldwide, so it could be great exposure. Please note that although the screngrab provided is black and white, the scene is actually in color, so CGI would need to be color. If interested at giving it a shot, post a link to your reel or portfolio here and I will contact you directly via email. I regret I am unable to post the footage here , it is confidential. Thank you !!! I am posting a screengrab from that scene for reference. SHOTS INFO: The oak tree will be very small in the very far end of the track. 4 shots: SHOT #1 = 3 frames no pan SHOT #2 = 50 frames no pan SHOT #3 = 61 frames no pan SHOT #4 = 61 frames no pan The only technical challenge I could spot is that there will be a man jumping in the foreground that will hide the tree on and off and in shot #3, there is a car that will end up hiding the tree at the end of the shot, as it races down the track.
ShotsMore technical info?To evaluate how much work it will be, it would be cool if you could provide the following info: - How many shots are there that need the tree
- What resolution is the material? Cheers,

Hi Ian, forgive me for being ignorant, but I am not sure I understand your question; What is "comped in" and what is "camera matched" ?
the tree is very small cause it is in the far distance. It is supposed to be at the very end of the 1/4 mile dragstrip. So basically it doesn't need much details. I am not sure what is the best way to go about it, but I can locate photos of that oak tree for you guys. Please let me know how you want to approach this.
how much of the screen real estate does the tree occupy? do you want it comped in, or just camera matched?
WR!
Cool so that shouldnt be so hard. I won't be able to do it though as I have lots to do with own film...
But what you should do next to make it even easier for the VFX guys (and to achieve a better result) is to seek out a tree that looks like the one you need. Then take photos of it with the right lighting (similar sun position and weather). Because real always looks more real than 3D (or lets say most of the time, hehhe). Then putting the tree photo in those 4 shots shouldn't be more than half a day's work!
OK I will have the info you need tomorrow. I finalized all the edits yesterday to make sure I give you accurate info. the good news is, the shots are few and short and no camera movement involved.
So check back tomorrow for the full scoop. Thank you!
Sounds good. I'll get working on the list and post it here soon. Thank you for the input.
