Description

This summer, we're expanding the line of Iron Sky merchandise.

This is your chance to let us know what you'd like to get with the IS name on it. Moon Nazi helmets, dog tags, tin cups? Go to town, but keep it reasonable (whatever you think that entails).

Ps. As a bonus, if we decide to make your product idea a reality, we'll send you one!

Iron Sky video games?

It occurred to me that a "free ware" video game available for down load might also be a good advertising avenue to explore. However, this would not generate any revenue for the project. If, however, you needed the merchandise to have a revenue stream, advertising could be sold against the download site. (i.e Google ad sense)

As for the video game itself, i would think an old style (as in arcade) would be great for the needs of the project.

"Help defeat the Nazi's invasion fleet, shoot them down before they land"

or something like that.

Gary.

I recall the online browser-based game-of-sorts 'NationStates' which was in part to draw attention to the book Jennifer Government. Maybe some (relatively basic) such game would be possible? Pick a side (Terran or Moon Nazi), collect income by building cities/moon bases, buy troops (Space Trooper?), etc. Such a thing wouldn't be terribly hard for someone (or a group) to put together in a relatively short timeframe (hell, I could do it once I finish my current assignments), and shouldn't be too demanding server-wise (unless tens of thousands of people come to play, in which case bargain). Stick some Google Ads on it like has been suggested, and suddenly there's both a large and interactive ad for Iron Sky and a minor income stream to help things moving while bigger backers are arranged.

Okay, so it's not an arcade game or mod of an existing game (Wolfenstein: The Moon and Back?), but it's within the reasonable reaches of the project.

BB2BB August 22, 2008 13:39 Flag

Wolfenstein 3D WAD? :D

Timo Vuorensola August 22, 2008 11:33 Flag

It would be cool. Actually it would be a great idea to just do a moonnazificated version of classic arcade games - where the enemy would be Moon Nazis instead of what they used to be.

Three ideas

The Target Audience for Iron Sky is probably teenagers and young males (16-30), who are a little bit geeks, or have artsy inclinations.

This may sound a little weird but my first idea would be Iron Sky sneakers. Sneakers are something that you wear for a long time(and with some branding also promoting the film at the same time.). I think the colors of Iron Sky would fit perfectly and make a good pair of shoes(think BK colors). Probably the Iron Sky logo on the front so it's really visible.

Second idea would be an Iron Sky flashlight. Not just simple put a logo on it. Make a Batman out of it. Remember when Gordon would signal Batman using the light on the sky? I don't think it would be to hard to create an extra layer of glass and make the device light the Iron Sky logo when turned on. That would be cool.

The last idea is about Iron Sky road signs. They must have some wacky posters on the moon, right? (I noticed roads in the trailer). People could buy them and place them in their rooms. Something like: 'Warning, Gravity Ends Ahead'. or darker 'Keep The Purity. Hate The Inferiors.' (OK, these ones may suck but the general idea is there)

I like it too, thats funny,i want thath one at the movie. Some idiot nazi could be driving at the road and there is a big downhill, after that comes a big downhill. End of the downhill is the Gravity ends here sign, he dosen't see the sign. Then the nazi jump whit hes bike, nazi is smiling. Then nazi understand that hes going up,up,up,he start crying. He floating to the space, and never comes back.

Oskar Lönnberg August 19, 2008 06:00 Flag

I like the road signs idea. The "Gravity ends here" is hilarious

Timo Vuorensola June 24, 2008 16:33 Flag

Whoa :) Another pretty rough idea. I just love the controversy...

Maxiie Paige June 22, 2008 01:03 Flag

ooh, perhaps they could be limited edition, hand numbered 1 of 1000 rolls of toilet paper in ltd edition cases? turn something mundane into a piece of art!

Hey, it worked for Marcel Duchamp's 'fountain' (urinal) & art has never been the same since!

whats your thoughts on this guys? It's pretty ludicrous, and I love it!

Maxiie Paige June 22, 2008 01:00 Flag

lol toumas! I think a lot of fans would be unsure whether to use it or not! perhaps it could come in a special "in case of emergency" case!

And if the world was ending because of nazis from the moon, I'd certainly want to whipe my ass on the swastika!!

Tuomas Kaikkonen June 19, 2008 10:57 Flag

And that should be really hard on your behind, like sand paper. :-)

That would ensure you do not over use it, but still would find it sometimes funny to take the crap out and flush the Swoostika paper away.

The best merchandise is stuff that has an emotional attachment to something in the movie. Light sabers from Star Wars for example. What's going to grab people from the movie? WIthout seeing a script it's hard to guess. Replica space ships? A great anti-nazi poster that shows up repeatedly in the movie? Action figures of the hero/heroine?

Iron Sky Merch

Everyone loves a t-shirt.

How about
1. shirts with fake newspapers & I.S. stories on them:
New York Gazette
New York Skyline Now An IRON SKY !
Space Nazis Attack!!

2. shirts with the fake products or storefronts featured in the movie:
HemoCorp: A New You in Under 20 minutes! Brought to you by Iron Sky Enterprises.

3. Frisbees that look like the spaceships in the film.

4. Pens that say:
Write the Future. The Past is Catching Up with You. Iron Sky.

I really like the "Write the Future" bit on the pen!

Atte Joutsen June 09, 2008 20:09 Flag

Hey, that sounds good. Selling products that are made by the companies in the movie. That's some viral advertisement!

There are couple of very nicely developed companies in the "Future corporation" task. How cool would it be if people started developing actual websites for the companies in the movie. The pages could have company presentations, product catalogs and all the things a usual existing company has. The Iron Sky companies could refer each other in their pages for past successful businesses :)

Imagine if the Iron Sky companies started getting orders from the real companies in the internet. Wow. That is beyond viral.

Merch IS

Building on the "Moon Oil" drink idea, partner with Red Bull to make an "Iron Sky" collectors edition can. "Red Bull, gives the Eagle Wings"

In Switzerland we had a drink concoction known as "Turbine Oil", sort of a social lubricant made of all the clear liquors mixed together, Run, Gin, Vodka, Schnapps, etc. Nasty stuff but could be labeled in a Iron Sky decanter shaped like the Eagle.

While on the liquor theme, in the USA, clear illegal corn whiskey was distilled and sold as "Moonshine" for decades. Today, it is produced and sold legally in North Carolina. Do a private label bottle run.

Jewelry such as small medium and large Iron Crosses and earings and Eagle pendants all made from dull gray iron or iron like material.

Pay close attention to the manner in which Star Wars marketed its items. Substitute space Nazi's for Imperial Storm Troopers and you are nearly there.

#1 Tee Shirts Grey or Black (think Harley shirts) with the Eagle on the Moon/Earth logo with tag lines such as:

a.) Iron Sky - We will Rule the Earth
b.) Iron Sky - WWII Was Just Practice
c.) Iron Sky - Nothing Will be the Same Again
d.) Iron Sky - The Eagle has Landed
e.) Iron Sky - The Future is Coming at Mach 10
f.) Iron Sky - Der Adler Gekommst
g.) Der Adler is Schnell - Iron Sky
h.) Iron Sky - "And You Thought Aliens were Scary?"
I.) Eisern Himmel - Der Adler ist Herunterkommend

Pewter is good metal to work with for jewelry items. Also cupro-nickel, "nickel silver". One might need to watch for skin sensitivity, as I found to my dismay that I react to nickel in 14kt gold.
Lacquer-finished brass is great stuff and still looks nice even when banged up and scratched.
I was looking for Battlestar Galactica dog tags a few days ago, and found one odd little detail that should be remembered: the dog tags are excellent quality, and worth the rather steep price of about 45 USD as they're custom pieces with the buyer's name or callsign engraved in--but they were hung from inexpensive(cheap) ball-chains.
A harmless error, but the devil's in even the smallest details.
If there was an Iron Sky eagle pendant up for sale today in the Wreckstore, the only pause I would take before buying it would
be to peek at my bank account.

Timo Vuorensola June 24, 2008 16:31 Flag

Stuff With An IS Logo...

1. Cereal Prizes...the kind of stuff we used to get as a freebie in our cereal box.

2. IRON SKY Ready to drink coffee. I would imagine that on the moon you'd get your coffee in ready to drink cans and it would be REALLY STRONG GERMAN COFFEE (not the energy-drink crap but REAL coffee.)

3. Key Chains that look like they were used in the movie, not like an Iron Sky premium.

3.5 Recreate any utensil or item that the characters in the movie use, pens, notebooks, cuttlery.

4. Partner with VANS and create an IS slip on shoe.

5. Sticker for the front of your PC that makes it look more like an Iron Sky Prop

From the YouTube poster's text:

"BMW's groundbreaking The Hire film series ignored conventions and created the phenomenon known as online films. The Web has never been the same since. These eight short films by critically acclaimed Hollywood directors effectively revolutionized the world of interactive entertainment, while showcasing the absolute limits of automotive high-performance exclusive to BMW. Over 100 million film views and numerous awards later, The Hire film series served as further proof that when it comes to innovation and technology, BMW has always been ahead of its time.

Hey Jack,

thanks for the support and positive attitude!

Re: Memory stick. Yes, the eagle head USB-hub would be so cool in any office. The sticks are actually cheap to buy and customize with a laser.

Re: Nazis playing dice. Well, the Monopoly-style world domination game would be good but "get out of concentration camp free" -card might be too much for some.

The other good option, in my humble opinion, would be "The Star of Africa"-type of game, but with a map of the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrikan_t%C3%A4hti

Oh yes, with the boxing gloves a matching punching bag would be great. Jack-in-the-box? Hell yeah, and "Torssonen-in-the-box" would be even better. That would scare the living daylights out of anyone.

I would definedly buy an Iron Sky suspension brigde! What about custom made airsoft/paintball guns? Stage your own IronSky skirmish?

Has anyone mentioned the soundtrack of the movie cd? Probably, but here's the same idea with a twist:

The soundtrack cd would include, of course the music, but sound effects and dialogue samples from the movie, and a simple multitracking sampler-software. Using the sampler one could create hilarious remixes. The movie website would have its own remix section for the fans to upload the material.

Jack Malinowski June 28, 2008 17:59 Flag

Hey Henri,

I really love your ideas: especially the USB memory sticks;
the eagle head would serve as a sturdy holder.

Board games are so much fun: how would Nazis play with dice?

What about a punching bag or jack-in-the-box?

PS:
Also, What about IronSky suspension bridge?!
I'm sure that's in production, waiting in the wings...

A bit more random

Heh, Iron Sky salmiakki? Just repackage Halvan salmiakki or whatever.

Iron Sky lockbox, with washed out colours depicting a scene from the movie. Maybe it could be a goodie-bag, so you could stick a few of the other items in it and rank up the price.

IS chess set? This is probably over the top, but have nazis on one side and Earth's bigass defence forces on the other. And a swastika engrained on the set, obviously.

Something needs to be done with the "One day we'll meet again under the iron sky" tagline. But I don't know what. Contact cards? I dunno. Btw, you need to make a ringtone of the track.

Great idea on the chess set, but I think the Earth or the Moon would be better ideas for the board engraving as without the pieces the board could be misconstrued.
