Description

Maybe some of you guys would like to contribute ideas for the poster design or make some fancy Wallpapers?

We are thinking of something like a 70s/80s Action/Adventure poster with high cheese potential (in a good way) and sporting the Snowblind colour palette (white/blueis/cyan stuff... plus some bright yellow/red explosions) ;D

References could be the old Star Wars posters or Big Trouble In Little China.

For footage, you can use the pics of our heroes that Carl put online:
http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/2770
http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/2786

There also is a Snowblind logo for your photoshopping pleasure ; )
http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/2146

And now here are some snow and ice textures:
http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/3234

Now have fun; we're excited to see what you'll come up with :D

Best,
KMH

Character posters: Ladies

I practised Photoshop effects and came up with these posters for movie's characters. First up, the ladies..

I'll turn these into wallpapers if they prove to be popular.

UPDATE: Barbara the Hot Bike Chick is now is proper resolution.

UPDATE 2: Kassie Kalifornia and Naina both updated...

@Kris yeah I can't come up with anything either... You're right that a cowboy hat would be too much over the top. So maybe the star is just the best symbol!

We really got all our hands full at the moment, most of us even working during Christmas... So I guess I'll put up another logo design task once the holidays are over ^_^ Let's see what the other wreckers can come up with :D

Kris S. December 23, 2009 19:03 Flag

I know a sheriff's badge is a cliche, I just can't think of anything which says "Western!" better that would work as a letter. :)

Maybe you could put a cowboy hat on one of the letters instead? Or would that look too childish?

Kalle Max Hofmann December 23, 2009 14:07 Flag

Kris, you've got a very good point there... Having a snowflake in the word "snow" is kind of redundant! I once thought of replacing it with the traffic sign for "frost warning" to give a hint that Snowblind is also a road movie. The Sheriff's star is a good idea, but in my taste a little too "classic-western". We have a guy with the title of Sheriff in the film but he doesn't wear a star and isn't really too important. Still, it might be better to give a solid hint towards western than leaving people clueless ;-)

Jani Salomaa December 04, 2009 06:43 Flag

Carl - Thanks a ton for checking. I understand actors don't like having set photographers around for bathing shots.. A shame there isn't a more natural Naina shot, she deserves better. Maybe you can post your favorite HD shot and i can see what i can do about it.

I know about the comments!! It's crazy. I've been fine tuning these based on the responses. That's collaboration..

Carl Morys December 04, 2009 02:34 Flag

I checked through all the photos from set again but there are no other portraits of Naina :,-( of course there are some good shots of her in the film but the resolution is only HD :-((( Seens like the final poster will only show some motorbikes and no people ;-P BTW this shot has the most comments ever ;-)

Jani Salomaa December 02, 2009 01:05 Flag

Thanks for the comments, again. I've revised these posters many times over based on the feedback. Keep it coming!

- It's mos def not a chick flic. But I agree with Kris: it's unfair (and uncommercial) to have no female characters in closeup shots on the posters. I didn't want to make them as sex-driven as they turned out, but i only worked with the material that was available at the time, which included zero charismatic shots of women.

- The 'Western' look is a tough call. 'Western' or 'Western style' is a small difference these days.

I can't do the backgrounds in the regular wild west -style as the movie takes place in a snowy environment. And my backgroung photos from are barely visible anyways.

Logo with a sheriff's badge would be great, if it fits the design. I still support the 'western' theme being a mystery for the time being.

- Naina's poster is the weakest of them all. Are there no set photo better of her? And to answer Julie again, there was an intent to have Clayton Young's face made out of steam on the background, but I think i'll skip that in the future Naina poster.

Kris S. December 01, 2009 22:06 Flag

Kalle, what about replacing the snowflake in the logo with a frozen sheriff's badge?

Kalle Max Hofmann December 01, 2009 18:56 Flag

I made the same observation with the posters. I think generally, Snowblind is more a "guys" movie - at least the trailer views on YouTube are viewed by a mainly male audience. Well maybe women just don't log in so their data can't be analysed ; )
I think that people don't make a connection between motorbikes, cowboys and katanas isn't necessarily a bad thing. The point of a poster is to generate interest, and if the people are puzzled... all the better! I'm pretty convinced when people watch the film, they'll take this stuff pretty much "as is" due to the overall presentation ^_^

Kris S. December 01, 2009 01:22 Flag

""Many have trouble connecting the look of the characters, motorcycles, katana and modern guns with the 'western' -label... Maybe the tagline or something should mention this is a modernized western?"

What might be needed in the background of all these posters, or perhaps on the Snowblind logo, is something to indicate a western setting, some kind of landscape or something. The snow theme is there, but the western theme is missing.

I wouldn't just put it in the tagline, I'd include something visual like a sheriff's badge or whatever...

Kris S. December 01, 2009 01:14 Flag

"Some women, they just wanna watch Jane Austen in French black and white serial costume dramas..."

...well this film wouldn't be aimed at those women! :)

One thing I would point out though is that the current women's posters focus on their bodies while the current men's posters focus on their faces. Maybe there should be a bit more variety?

Jani Salomaa December 01, 2009 00:16 Flag

After a roundtable, here's some feedback from friends and others (this goes for the gentlemen posters, as well - http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/3908):

- They're cool. Aroused some laughs, in the good way. Called newer Terminator and Die Hard-style, which was my intent. The ice and fire thingie (i call it contrast) was liked.

- Many have trouble connecting the look of the characters, motorcycles, katana and modern guns with the 'western' -label... Maybe the tagline or something should mention this is a modernized western?

- Clayton Young looking at the camera was off-putting, somehow. Saberneck had the best impression as far as charisma.

- Naina's photo looks too plastic and edited on the face. And i didn't touch it (or her) i swear!

- Especially the ladies posters's are wanted on the wall...by the guys. Somehow my female crowd is put off by the western action theme. Some women, they just wanna watch Jane Austen in French black and white serial costume dramas...

Do give your take!? Are my friends just mad, or have they got a point or two?

Kalle Max Hofmann November 27, 2009 11:01 Flag

Hi Jani, don't worry I'm an absolute MS Comic Sans hater as well. I really could throw up whenever I see that font in public. If I were president of th EU, I would ban it except for use in Kindergarten maybe and of course the signs saying "Hello! My name is..." because I wouldn't want to have Fight Club banned from video stores ;-)

Jani Salomaa November 22, 2009 23:03 Flag

Just please god no Comic Sans;)

You mean charlotta's font? http://www.wreckamovie.com/shots/show/3081
It's pretty sweet! I like the grungy look. If you find another good western font, the 'grunge' can always be added later.

Emphasizing the western origin would be benefitial. Friends of mine have been asking how in the world a guy with a katana fits in a western. I tell 'em to STF and go watch Wild Wild West as a punishment for narrow-mindedness.

Kalle Max Hofmann November 22, 2009 22:18 Flag

Hi Jani, yeah I know it isn't really up for that resolution - but these prints aren't so sharp anyway - you have to watch them from a little distance. Still I bet it's gonna look very impressive :D And as for the logo, we have to design a new logo anyway as the current one is only kind of a placeholder... Well it's gonna be hard because one has really gotten used to the old one. But we feel the Snowblind logo has to transport the western style better, so maybe it's gonna be something among the likes of that suggestion in the wallpaper task... Or just good old plain MS Playbill haha ;D

Jani Salomaa November 22, 2009 21:54 Flag

Julie - it's Clayton Young's eye. Actually his face is formed out of the steam as well.. I can try making it more prominent, but it's very hard to do so.

Jani Salomaa November 22, 2009 21:52 Flag

Kalle - cool!! But i wonder if it'll hold together in A1 size. I did the poster in A4 size at 300dpi.

There was no point in making it bigger, since the snowblind-logo was at such a low res. I'm afraid the logo will look a bit blurred, but otherwise it should be fine..

If i get a better version of the logo, i should be able to make a BIG ass version for ya.

Kalle Max Hofmann November 22, 2009 14:20 Flag

BTW we're going to try doing an A1 print at a local copy shop... It's gonna be a rather affordable digital print but it's supposed to look quite good. So Jani we'll soon know how your work looks in 80x60cm stuck to a wall :D

Julie Jenko November 01, 2009 20:04 Flag

Hey Jani,

I like your style although the poster of Naina looks a little odd with that eye in the background? Who's eye is it?

It's not really clear if there is a face in the background or what. I suggest you either make the face more prominent or leave it out.

Keep up the great work!

Kalle Max Hofmann October 21, 2009 19:56 Flag

In that ice-aged future, they just have to ;P

Kris S. October 21, 2009 19:53 Flag

Wow, a pregnant heroine. I can't think of any film with that except maybe Fargo (but that wasn't an action film). OTOH pregnant people probably shouldn't be flying through the air on motorbikes... :)

Kalle Max Hofmann October 21, 2009 19:51 Flag

Great work Jani! And yes, Barbara is pregnant... She's the babe with tha baby. But I think the tagline is quite alright... But who knows, maybe we should put that up for discussion! Let's put up a task for this.... Hehhe :D

Jani Salomaa October 21, 2009 17:58 Flag

Bike chick's picture is now in glorious HD for your viewing pleasure.

Printable in A4 size in full 300dpi resolution. I'm considering plastering it all over my walls, ceiling too.

Hey, wait a minute!! ..... Is she pregnant!? Or what is that thing on her belly?! I didn't even notice it in the lo-res version! OMFG! This creates all kinds of tagline possibilities... "Born To Ride, Baby Inside" or "These Two Babies Will Give You The Ride of Your Life"....

Kalle, if you have any other ones is better resolution, send 'em in my general direction.

Jani Salomaa October 20, 2009 13:33 Flag

Kalle - I sent my email address to your WAM mail. Just send me all the good stuff ya got!

Kalle Max Hofmann October 20, 2009 11:33 Flag

Yes I have the photo now in full-res. Jani do you want to give me an eMail adress where I can send it? Or should I post it here? I'd have to do a new shot for this though...

Oskar Lönnberg October 20, 2009 11:25 Flag

Hope you get a better resolution picture of Jana. Really liked the idea, but biker girls should be sharp :)

Kalle Max Hofmann October 18, 2009 00:05 Flag

Hi Jani, right the pictures of Barbara are really low-res in the versions I have... strange. I'll ask the photographer about the original, especially that "hasta la vista" bike shot ;D

Jani Salomaa October 17, 2009 23:48 Flag

Kalle, would you happen to have a higher resolution version of the Barbara photo (and maybe also the others)?

I designed all the posters to be printable in at least A4 size at 300dpi, but that Barbara photo is just way too blurry and pixelated even for a normal screen. It's a shame, since i think i managed to get some "Terminator 2" -feel to the poster...

Kalle Max Hofmann October 17, 2009 16:34 Flag

Jani you should also post that Barbara picture on the facebook page of Jana Pallaske, the actress playing her. I think she'll love it! And while you're there, you can become her fan... she definitely deserves being admired :D
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Snowblind/132781985086#/pages/Jana-Pallaske/73784609240

3 wallpapers 1680*1050

Here are three wallpapers featuring 3 of the coolest Snowblind images. And they come with the "join the production at WAM" ad.

The resolution is currently standard widescreen 1680*1050px, so you can downscale (stretch) them to fit your monitor.

I'll do wallpapers with some of the other characters if asked. These were just the three most explosive ones..

Allrighty then. I tweaked a couple of minor things and changed the address to www.wreckamovie.com/snowblind .

Kalle Max Hofmann November 01, 2009 13:14 Flag

That's also a good idea Peter!

Peter Vesterbacka November 01, 2009 08:05 Flag

I would suggest using the url

join the production at www.wreckamovie.com/snowblind

as that gets people directly to the Snowblind page on Wreckamovie.

Now we should try to get these posted all over the place.

Kalle Max Hofmann October 30, 2009 23:57 Flag

Hi Jani, great work! Thanks once more ;-) I think it's not really necessary to put the snowblind URL on there... It would look to crowded and people will be able to locate our homepage through WAM if they're interested. Speaking of which, we should put those on the homepage for download :D
Even though I have to admit we graphics junkies mostly work on monitors that have 1920 pixels resolution... The ones in the Snowblind Studio are even 2048 x 1152 ones :D

Kris S. October 30, 2009 21:33 Flag

Those are absolutely splendid! :)

Just one suggestion: perhaps the font could be different for the part that says "join the production: www.wreckamovie.com"? At the moment the R looks a lot like an A. It's not a huge problem, but it always helps to make web addresses as clear as possible.

Jani Salomaa October 30, 2009 21:15 Flag

Oh, Kalle, do you want me to add snowblind's www address somewhere in there?

Great stuff, they look really cool and give a great feel for the film

Jani Salomaa October 20, 2009 13:40 Flag

Thanks Oskar and Mathias. The taglines were just an afterthought I threw in there.. I tried to get the Sin City character poster feel to them: http://movies.about.com/library/weekly/blsincity072504a.htm

Anyone have some better tagline ideas? At least Lafort, Naina and the red chick could really use some more thought of lines..

Peter - A Snowblind mag would be a cool idea, but maybe a bit later when the film is closer to completion, marketting is getting started and there is a wider fan base to sell them to. Magcloud is cool, but the delivery costs are pretty steep to Europe.

Oskar Lönnberg October 20, 2009 11:20 Flag

Cool I liked the Saberneck tag line :)

Peter Vesterbacka October 18, 2009 15:23 Flag

Jani, amazing posters! I think it would be great to have a small Snowblind magazine with this kind of look and feel. It could be printed using the http://magcloud.com service and it could even make some money for the production. Anybody interested in creating that? Julie Jenko September 18, 2009 13:27 Flag

Nice work Zerafine! These look really professional!

Julian Rabus September 16, 2009 16:07 Flag

I agree with Kalle and Carl!
I don't know if i'm right, but the right head looks a little bit deformed...
I like the look of the left and the middle head - so I would adapt the colors of the right one to the left one. I think it's good that the head in the middle has clear colors!
Pherhaps i would prefer an typical atmospheric landscape of Snowblind at the bottom... (something like the picture in the trailer at 0:51 or about 1:10 or 1:27...)
I also would propose a warm accent on sth. which could stand for the love or what ever.
But it really looks nice! Keep it out!

Kalle Max Hofmann September 15, 2009 18:32 Flag

True... maybe you could move the portraits and title more towards the bottom and "pile up" smaller, standing figures on top of them? Sort of the way I did it for the current poster only the other way round ;-)

Carl Morys September 15, 2009 18:15 Flag

The guns are a bit too old for snowblind... the used equipment is from the 70s and 80s in the film. but then the empty space down there is maybe too big... hm.... but the heads of the three look very good!

Julian Rabus September 13, 2009 22:11 Flag

Hi zerafine,
I think the guns are a good idea! It looks nice!

pherhaps you find a atmospheric still, you could put at the empty space at the bottom.

well done!

Zerafine Delacroixx September 13, 2009 21:57 Flag

Thanks a lot, guys! Do you have any suggestions how I could improve it? I had the Idea to put guns in the pic. What do you think about it?

Kalle Max Hofmann September 13, 2009 16:30 Flag

Hi Zerafine, nice posters! The one with the shadow is a very interesting idea! Also, it's great that Clayton now has two guns... Just like those John Woo flicks I love so much :D
Technically it could use some improvement, but there is a German saying that goes something like "No master has ever fallen from the sky" which probably means something like "practice makes perfect" :-)
The second one has a really nice composition, I guess it's quite likely that we'll end up using something similar... You should check your spelling though ;P

Overall those two are great work, so keep it up :D

Julian Rabus September 13, 2009 15:33 Flag

hello,
I like your posters, the picture composition is great, there are some things to correct but all in all your second picture is my favourite!
