Closing Note

Thank you for great ideas, we'll see what we will use in the future - but there definitively were some very good ones!

Description

We are planning to try out an interesting way to fund parts of Iron Sky - by selling what we call War Bonds. War Bond is a document which you can buy and support Iron Sky that way. There'll be more information about that, but now - I'd like to have your great ideas, written or drawn, on our War Bonds campaing.

The task is: design us a War Bonds Ad.

To find out more about War Bonds, please check out the following wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_bond

What I would like you to do is to design a War Bond Ad that's hilarious, and has the main basic message of fighting against space nazis!

Here's some examples, and attached you'll find more!

http://images.google.fi/images?q=war%20bonds&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:fi:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi

We accept submissions in text (a description of the message & picture), a rough sketch, or of course, finished design.

Be creative, be hilarious.

I might suggest to put a image of the moon itself over top at a 20% screen, to give it a little bit of texture? Otherwise it kind of looks like a billard ball. o.O :)

Timo Vuorensola May 14, 2008 08:14 Flag

I think the one with yellow text is great. I'd like to have a Creedens Clearwater Revival slogan there, would fit perfectly.

"There's a Bad Moon on the rise!"

If you'd be able to do it, it'd be great!

Angela R. May 09, 2008 10:48 Flag

Simple and effective... :)

Jukka Pinonummi May 08, 2008 05:49 Flag

I think the second is better, black cross and blak backround.
Simpel and nice,i like it very much.

I dont belief that muslin get angry about it,its only half of moon thats look like same.

So don't worry :)

I like the first one. But some muslims might not.

@ Simon Horrocks: "nazist" was the correct etymology which indicated the "nazist party". The world "nazi" (it also correct) was an abbreviation used by the allies during the second world war.
The word "fascist" is today usually misused to indicate generically a totalitarian dictatorship, but is more suited to indicate the Italian dictatorship during the WWII.
Nazism and fascism was both totalitarian dictatorships, but also if nazism has its roots in fascism, it was different in many ways.
Anyway, these historical deepenings, I think that your observation is historically correct, because almost certainly allies never used the world "nazist" in their propaganda posters, but certainly used the word "nazi"... :)

Simon Horrocks June 06, 2008 07:27 Flag

"NAZIST" is not a word. Not sure if that's a typo.

How about using FASCIST?

Couple sketches

Just a few things that popped to my head the other day.

In the first one, the idea is that it's a batsignal. Except that it's obviously not a batsignal but something else. I couldn't decide what would be a good signal, so I just put the US flag in there. Could as well be the iron sky logo, or some text, or anything else. Then of course I tried to draw the Empire State Building there to point out the location.

The other one came to me when I was browsing warbonds, and there was one with a nazi bomber flying on top of some city, and some scared looking woman, and of course, 'buy war bonds, before it's too late'. So I just mangled that idea on top of the first one, and voila.

just skecthes though, so do as you please with them.

"Chicks dig guys with big war bonds."

Fell off my chair laughing.

Atte Joutsen June 13, 2008 20:38 Flag

To continue with that thought:

Chicks dig guys with big war bonds.

Enlarge your manhood. Buy war bonds.

Timo-Heikki Mäkelä June 13, 2008 19:12 Flag

Hmmm.... This one is a bit double-minded:

Get your wife something sexy: Buy war bonds!

The Third Reich's Diabolical Orbiting Superweapon

I found this article some time ago about Nazis in space. I'm not sure about the validity of the content but it does lend a little truth to "Iron Sky"

http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=940

exerpt :

"Throughout the Second World War, the town of Hillersleben, Germany was home to one of the Third Reich's most crucial weapons research centers. At a sprawling facility nestled in the forested hills, a contingent of 150 engineers and physicists developed and evaluated all manner of experimental weapons, a substantial number of which were ultimately adopted by the Nazi war machine."

edit: I put shot this in the wrong category. Maybe an admin could move it?

That sounds a bit fake. World War II is a great place for hoaxes because it's untouchable. Remember when they "found" all those "nazi" diaries?

It's a shame, all that nonsense presented as "fact" just gives fuel to Holocaust deniers and other revisionists and relativists.

But that's where we could do a little joke that's partly self-referential and partly serious...

The words, in big red letters: "Don't let them rewrite history", with a picture of a nazi in space uniform holding a giant eraser at the end of a pencil, then on the bottom the "Buy war bonds today" would certainly catch attention.

Falling sky

Here is a shot inspired by Asterix comics, where they are only afraid of the sky falling on them.

The tagline could be something like:

The only thing to be afraid of is the falling sky

Continuing with smaller text:

Beware of the Space Nazis! Invest in war bond and we protect you!

And the bond should have a picture of a falling space nazi who has failed to open his parachute and have broken handle in his hand.

Good. I just hope somebody who have some time and can work with the pen would make a draft of this. Feel free anybody who wishes.

Jack Malinowski June 13, 2008 16:15 Flag

Really enjoy this idea -

THE SKY'S NOT FALLING!

THE MAN IN MOON'S A NAZI!

BUY WAR BONDS NOW!

Oskar Lönnberg April 27, 2008 18:55 Flag

Hope somebody has the inspiration to come up with a sketch. The key to this poster would be the expression of the space nazi's face, which bit difficult to do if you have space helmets on.

One possibility would be to have a group of space nazis coming down and only few of them have been able to open the parachutes.

Timo Vuorensola April 25, 2008 20:17 Flag

Yes, a great idea. I'm having fun thinking the falling space nazi. Let's see what we can come up with this!
