Description

We want to make And White Was The Night the best film it can be and this means we need all the honest feedback and critique we can get.

It would be great to get your first impressions about the trailer. Here are some key questions to help you but please don't feel anyway restricted by them ;)

Here's the link to the trailer

1) What worked in the trailer?
2) What didn't?
3) What did you feel when you watched the trailer (if anything)?
4) Would you want to see the whole film after watching the trailer?

-Mika

Would be great to have a "motion poster" version similar to the www.ironsky.net one. That would be more of a shorter teaser, not the full trailer. I also think it would be good to think of cool new ways the trailer could be done in such a way that it's really easy to feature on blogs and all over the net.

Fonts of the trailer

The sound of the trailer is really good, listened to it latest today. The flickering names of the cast is disturbing at the end of the trailer. Maybe the style should be changed to a more simplier one because there are already so many quick cuts. All the fonts should be changed in the trailer, somewhat richer.

Promising stuff! A bit more clarity is needed...

The cinematography seems very promising!
The narrator in Spanish is excellent!

The changes of pace in the cutting work well with the music.

As others have noted, clarity is needed in the presentation of who the protagonist is. It believe it could simply be achieved in a kick-ass scene where he is victorious - as opposed to just being a handsome face or running scared - like many others.

Now this clip is a nice sequence of shots, but neither the story nor the cast of characters are presented in a way that makes the viewer know who is who.

Another way to achive increased clarity is to present the main characters at the very end in a cavalcade of brief headshots with their names displayed. Then the order (1. male protagonist, 2. female protagonist, 3. male antagonist etc) would establish the order of things...

I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing more!

If I can be of use, let me know...

Great feedback this far :)

Very good comments this far. Thanks. We're going to release trailer 2.0 at some point during the spring and I'm sure the comments will have an effect!

potentiaalia....a "hell" lot...

*Mika: Pardon the plagiarism :)*

Great Work! Very catchy trailer.

Is your audience international? I thought there were subtitles before - then English narrative and then no subtitles. A bit confusing. Maybe it is because of my language impairment, but I got the gist of the story, but not the story itself.

Is the music temp? It is a great score.

You open with the phrase “All societies and cultures are inherently built on evil" (good start)... but the following shots are very benign (a street, some cops, another street). You are setting something up - but not following up on that.

Also, who is the main character(s)? It was a bit confusing till I read the synopsis.

I agree with Jani - I liked the dialog between the two men (Cathedral reference) - it personalized the story. But when he is talking about his children and wife, you cut to the bald man feeding the mongoose. I didn’t get the connection.

Would I watch this movie? I think it is a good teaser. But it needs to progress to a trailer. (Again, my language barrier might be the reason).

Hope this helps.

What about doing a trailer remix project?

Could be cool to have some of the other wreckers give a shot at the trailer? Worked out pretty well with the Iron Sky trailer remix last year.

I agree wholeheartedly with no. 1, but disagree with no. 2...

The tranquil narration is a fitting ending to the trailer. The 'shocking-flash-image-with-a-shrill-soundeffect' -ending is so overused in trailers these days, ANYTHING else is refreshing...

Plusses and minuses

That is one fine trailer! Tight, interesting, professional. I felt intrigued to find out more. I'll definitely check it out. Some plusses and minuses:

+ Fantastic use of opening and closing narration. I'm kinda divided whether it should be subtitled or left as a mystery for those who don't speak Spanish. The voice is fittingly haunting.
+ The scenes set in Colombia look especially colorful and fantastic.
+ The music supports the atmosphere, like it should.
+ Of individual shots, I loved 'the wife the size of a cathedral' -monologue, and the shotgun slo-mo shot.

- The opening narration starts at the same time as the text "All societies..." appears. The viewer automatically interprets the text as a subtitle, even though the narration says completely different things.
- Being in Helsinki is never established. Only visual reference to Finland is the aircraft landing shot and the brief Police shot. Just one outdoor shot of a Helsinki location would do the trick.
- The Swat scenes looked a tad cheap.. Maybe faster cutting could help.
- I didn't like how you present the title on the top of the screen and actor names below. The title should be the main thing.
