2018 Elections

Closing Note

Thank you, one shot is enough in this task! So, here's what happened:

In the 2012 the election result will be what it will. The running president made some changes to the Presidential Succession Act, returning the Sections 9 and 10 from 1792 Act to the current Act.

nfortunately, early 2014 the president had to resign because of major sex scandal, and new elections were held in the December of 2014.

The president of Iron Sky was then elected, and she has run her term of 2014-2018 not-that-successfully, and as the re-elections of December 2018 are dawning... Things don't look too good for her.

Here's a tricky one.

The film takes place in 2018, as we all know. In the script, we have presidential elections coming up "later that year" - although, of course, the election years are 2012, 2016 and 2020 - but not 2018.

This has never proven to be a biggie for us, but lately it has started to bug me.

So my question to you is: how could this happen according to US law. I know it's probably very improbable, but if someone could come up with a good cover-our-asses -explanation for this one, I'd be very happy!

MORE INFO: According to Iron Sky, the current president in year 2018 is running to be re-elected, so she's already served one term.

amend the current Presidential Succession Act

The order of succession is not in the Constitution, so all that is needed is to have Congress amend the current Presidential Succession Act - probably in response to voter outrage or some such - so that it includes a special election the December following the emergency. The original Presidential Succession Act of 1792 Section 10 required there be a presidential election in the December of the year in which section 9 was invoked (or the December of the next year, if there was less than two months to go until December and the presidential term was not about to expire). That Act has since been changed and is not in effect (the current one is 3 U.S.C. ยง 19) but if it was restored and the President elected in 2016 was incapacitated or killed in some way in late 2017 then there would be a special election in 2018.
