Closing Note

Now that the front page has been updated few months ago, I think it's time to close this task too :)

Description

We've been thinking a lot about the new frontpage of Wreck A Movie. We do not think it is quite there and we would like input from the community on the final design. Our goal is to be clear and professional but still have a positive but aggressive edge. We will also alter the INTRO pages (http://www.wreckamovie.com/intro) to better support the front. Here are some of the criteria:

1) Needs to show that there is quality content being produced here (what is being produced here does not suck and the people doing it are talented with great ideas and input)
2) Needs to act "disruptive" in a positive way (one suggested tag line is "free your film") Graphic design should be disruptive looking but not messy.
3) Needs to look and appeal to professional quality minded people.
4) Needs to explain what Wreck A Movie is, get people excited and explain how to get involved in one glance. A people should be able to look at the page and get it.

The graphical constraint is the attached material (gray box and header). The rest is open. We are looking for comments, ideas and criticisms also whether you are a designer or not.

Thanks!

Advertising Important Tasks

Somehow I totally missed this task "RUSH TASK! War Bonds Slogan" in Iron Sky and now it is closed. I newer saw any activity on this task and no advertisements on it either on my dashboard/mywreck page or on the front page. And just found out that when I took a look at the tasks list of Iron Sky. Might be that I missed also because it had a very similar name with "Buy War Bonds -campaing!".

Good points... Binding the priority ranking with remaining time might work if it was configurable for each task separately. Then, production leaders could toggle auto-priority ON and select when the task's priority is automatically increased from low to moderate and moderate to high (by giving two numbers like 7 and 3 as days before the deadline).

The reason behind is that a deadline does not always correlate with priority - it depends on the task.

Well, that RUSH TASK only was open for a very short time (4-5 hours), so no wonder you missed it. It had been opened around 11 pm Finnish time and no sensible people are around then. (Well, I happened to be, but I don't count as sensible.) The task was closed finally some time next morning.

A priority based advertisement system might be worthy still. But tasks really should be open longer than just a few hours. (I think I had at least one decent suggestion for the slogan. But I just wonder, whether any advertisement was ever made at the end.)

Atte Joutsen May 02, 2008 06:35 Flag

Yup, I missed that too. There could also be a priority ranking of tasks, for example, high, moderate, low with color coding. On the tasks page of the movie the tasks would be ordered by default on the basis of priority. If some tasks are ranked high priority they would appear on the fort page of WAM.

The priority could be somewhat bound with the remaining time. The priority could climb as the deadline comes closer. It could be of course modified by the production leader.

Login and data policies

Here are few things which have been bugging.

First of all the front/home page should be something which gives the user directly information if there is something interesting going on i.e. will I bother to login.

About logging in. The main usage of the site provided for people logged in so why there is no username password fields directly on the front page. Instead you now have to click to login page and you directly loose your context i.e. after logging in you have click many times before you get back to the place which was interesting.

Then a second thing which have been bugging me is what data is something which is publicly available for everybody and what is something which is only for registered members. The current policy just says that the email and name is not for sale. But some clear policy what is available for everybody and what is available for members only is needed. Sometimes the home page seems like I am looking at data which I only be able to see if I am logged in like should user names be visible for non members. You can't look at people page before logging in, but you still see user names on front page before registering to the site.

About the data policy and what should be seen by non logged in. maybe the biggest problem is actually the links, because when you try to follow the links you expect them to work on the front page, but now you are redirected to login page. And in these cases I loose my context and idea what I was actually doing.

1st Try

Hi everybody,

Here is my first try of the front page.

Small description:
navigation: The navigation of the trailers (demos) are under the trailer. If the user roll over the Logo with the mouse, so the Logo is changed to a bigger one (see "Iron Sky" Logo).
If there will be more trailers (in the future), the user can use the foreward- and backward Button to scroll.

On the right side of the trailer is the description of the trailer. The last shot and the picture of the author is also displayed.

On the bottom of the page there is there banner - Button. Where the user can get more information about the website.

Give me your comments, so that I can make a better one.

Thanks,

Sherry

Thanks Sherry - good shot! It may still need some adjustment, but the important front page elements are now beginning to crystallize.

Stephen Lee April 23, 2008 05:39 Flag

Hi Sherry, I like this one. We are on the right track. A couple things. First we need to have a title at the top. I am not sure if it should show as a TAB or larger Title like on the the title of a Task. Maybe there should be a welcome message.

I like the idea of the movie posters and the fact that it leaves room for expansion. I do not think the posters should go over the other picture but we should be making some kind of effect on it when chosen or moused over.

Good work though. Lets talk on skype
