Thanks for suggestions and links, unfortunately not actual footage found through this task, but good links and we found a lot of what we needed through the suggested links. More on the same topic coming up.
Hey everyone!
My name is Joni and I work as an assistant to our VFX producer Samuli Torssonen, here at the Energia office.
As you know, we live in Finland, and some scenes of Iron Sky take place in New York. We have very limited possibilities to travel to New York and film material there!
Now we ask you guys if anyone could help us to shoot some specific material in New York to be used in Iron Sky.
Can you help us? Do you live in (or near) New York, own a great camera and know how to take good photos?
Because we need Red footage or a great photo of Times Square, ASAP.
Option 1 (preferred):
Red footage
Option 2:
Still photo (RAW image)
Requirements:
- we need all the rights for the footage/image
- nighttime
- The Times Tower centered
- angle from street level to rooftops, so the night sky takes up part of the upper section of the image, and the Times Tower is fully visible (see reference image)
- Red material at least 2K
- still image resolution at least 3000x3000
- street level can be cropped, so only the lower section of the building is shown (no traffic nor people required in the footage or photo)
- otherwise as close to the reference image as possible
We would truly appreciate it if someone could provide this footage or still image.
The material can be send to me, at joni@energiaproductions.fi. I will also answer any questions related to this matter.

I have some stuff from Time Square, which is intended to be used in Star Wreck 2pi.
But it's only HDV. Also have some photos but not in 3000x3000 resolution.
If you don't find anything better, I woulad gladly share them.
I have also some views taken from Empire State Building at night which is better filmed than the Time Square stuff.
Hey, I am in Philadelphia. I can point you to a guy here with a RED camera. Be forewarned he's kind of a....eh...ego-case. But then again if I had a $30,000 camera I might be too. He will travel and is professional, he just kind of lectured me way too much tho (then again I am only a film student). Maybe expect that if your working with him for free, but if you pay him you should have no problems.
I also have a upgraded Canon HV20, which shoots 1080i 24fps if I can be of any service. I am only a short train ride away from NYC (and the train station is right next door, literally).
