Wam og Vennerød

The films of Wam & Vennerød are absolute classics from the era this film will try to emulate, and they´re all re released on DVD as well! But its not just the hair and clothes; editing, use of score (Carpenter style synths), slow motion, smoke machines, soft focus filters etc. is all fab stuff. Check out this clip:

Out of their films, I recommend Lasse og Geir, not just for the movie, but the DVD has an amazing documentary about the norwegian oil adventure in the early stages in the extras section. Should be loads of great research material there.Heres a tasty clip from that film:

and another clip from another film of theirs:

Wow, that's fantastic. Anyone have a link to some online Dagsrevyen og Kveldsnytt from even earlier? Like 1980-83.

a-ha for the soundtrack

You really can't make a Norwegian 80s movie without music from a-ha, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-ha

Scurvy?
There's no doubt that A-ha = the eighties...

Lord Fakenham February 12, 2009 14:22 Flag

I say! Good call, sir.. This scurvy-plagued trio even contributed to a James Bond soundtrack! 'Ye Living Daylights' circa 1987 anno domine..
As a musical contribution, if any.. this would make a logical and most essential decision!

Spies Like Us

I think this flick would be a kick in the right direction, inspiration-wise..
Atleast when it comes to look hair/makeup and costume in general.
Just imagine a dapper, dashing and young Arne Treholt as portrayed by Chevy Chase.. That would be the ultimate dreamcast for the role, or what?
This movie is however probably a little less serious and more hilarious/goofy than what NNH sets out to be..

Good fun and great inspiration anyway! Bring on the popcorn, beer and salty snacks!

I loooooved that movie when I was 12. Fun trivia: the Soviet/Afghanistan border scenes were shot here in Norway. Many of the actors portraying Russians were from here too, but they're mostly bit parts.

You are correct in assuming that Spies Like Us is a little more on the silly side than our film. It's also a star vehicle for Chevy Chase at the peak of his career. Norwegian Ninja takes itself a lot more seriously, and in that a lot of the humor can be found too. But it's a different kind of funny.

Cable guys.

Heres a funny film from the good old days in Norway, with some proper workers in it.

Oh my, that's a great reference. Also for how newscasts look. Probably shot on film. Thanks!

Young MacGyver

Can't go wrong with the MacGyver look from the earliest seasons. He has a mullet with short hair on top. Look at that jacket and turquoise shirt combination, he knows the stuff!

Hansi Hinterseer and mullets

Mein Gott!

How about the legendary (?) cheesy volkmusikante Hansi Hinterseer. Just google his name and prepare to be blinded by the shining of his white teeth.

AND

MULLETS - Nothing is more 80s than that!
