A Possiblity

http://preview.tinyurl.com/ypg79e

So what you could do is give it away online, but in a more "reduced" format (lower bitrate, smaller resolution, etc - just not enough to totally destroy the film). Alongside that you could sell DVDs of it (high-quality, extras, subtitles, etc).

So I'd recommend one of these three:
1. Attribution-NonCommercial
2. Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike
3. Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives

Haha. I think I could. It would be fun and the result would be bad enough...

Sami Laulajainen November 29, 2010 13:51 Flag

@ daniel : Are you applying for the cut- job? :D

I'm actually thinking a DVD-BD double release. Just like disney.

I think I'll save "the supernova cut" for the double release of Lev I and II in the distant future.

Daniel Saarimäki November 26, 2010 17:45 Flag

You could also ask somebody who knows nothing about films to cut the movie and share that in the internet. XD Then you could sell your cut in the DVD.

Sami Laulajainen November 25, 2010 17:29 Flag

I actually taught this. It would go to the theme to make a producer cut for free cc licnece and a director's cut to online store.

And the joke is that I'm both: director - producer. :)

Then we could extend this:

"Best boy grip" - cut

"Woman in the leading role" -cut

"boom-operator" -cut

CGI-department-cleaning-lady-cut

"too much coffee" - cut

supernova - cut

Not all of them, but a shorter free and a longer for the store.

It depends

It depends on what you are going to do with this. Are you going to earn money or not?

I have no adblock and I don't find ads annoying.

Only problem with DVD release is, that with this kind of project you won't be selling many copies...

What about pay-what-you-want method? Everybody could download this movie and pay if they like to. Like Sleep Is Death game does (minium price $1,75 to cover processing). http://www.sleepisdeath.net/

I had the add stopper in my f-fox too, because I hate the pages that have more surfacearea on google infomercials than the actual page itself They are finding new ways to go round the blokkers.

Sami: I am using an adblocker. It's a necessity for me as I just can't read a text that has animations beside it...

http://leitl.org/docs/public_html/tt/msg33056.html

If the ads aren't animated I tend to actually read them though. Maybe even click them. My point is, even people who aren't suffering from ADD like me use Ad-blockers.

The vodo looks promising too, gotta check it out too.

DJ : What I hear the summs are not that much. I don't know if the payment is click related: The money comes from the banners, but the service just hands out a tiny slice for them who did all the hard work. It's better than nothing from U-tube.

DS : What could be a good marketingplace for such a paggages? Ebay?

Daniel Saarimäki October 26, 2010 18:06 Flag

You could do this: make the movie free but sell it on a DVD with extra material.

David Jansson October 26, 2010 18:02 Flag

"pay - per - view - but - free - for - the - audience"

Huh? Sounds like a paradox...

Sami Laulajainen October 26, 2010 17:40 Flag

DJ : That's exactly what I want and was planning. Good to know that others have gone the road before me :)

DS : But not that much, since the buying the copy is not mandatory :)

I'm currently reviewing pay - per - view - but - free - for - the - audience - services: Vodler.com is supposed to be the spotify of the films.

You can earn money with a CC project itself if you don't licence it as non-commercial.

"still € 20 342 to go, before we start filming the sequel."

Pioneer one did it like that, with very, very good results.

Sami Laulajainen October 26, 2010 10:26 Flag

The plan A ofcourse is to get sufficient funding to make this on my own.

Sami Laulajainen October 25, 2010 18:26 Flag

I haven't even begun to ask for money yet. (I'm waiting a cool animation from you guys to help me :), But I have a plan B: CC-licnese, a donate button and a progress bar :

still € 20 342 to go, before we start filming the sequel.

I'd like to earn some name, to get credibility to get better fundings for my next projects.

I'm willing to think LEV as a calling card, there fore not alot.

Sami Laulajainen October 25, 2010 18:23 Flag

:) Let's just say that there won't be a sequel, if this doesn't provide it's making costs and a little nest egg for the "*****************".

censored at the last moment :)
