Description

It's time to design a poster for Star Wreck 2pi.

You find photos to do so here:

Pictures from Energia:
http://www.starwreck.com/media/starwreck_image_kit/

Photos from Captain Stöcklin, Dramakulian General and the Dramakulian Ships. You also find the actual poster:
http://www.wuala.com/Videoman/StarWreck2pi/Extern/Poster

If you need a specific elements like ships, just drop a message and I will render it and post it here. It's just that there are so many possibilities to do that.

More material might come as that task go.

The poster must be able to be printed on A0. We will ned a PSD file so that we can still edit the text with actors and so later.

Remember: Th original "In the Pirkinning" cast only appear as supporting characters in this movie. If you want to integrate Pirk and Dwarf on the poster, they should not be the main element.

Yes, these one are in the movie.

Akira Andreas Weikert August 09, 2011 17:06 Flag

But these are in the movie, right? :-)

Fabienne Gschwind August 03, 2011 16:42 Flag

The arrangement is not bad at all : ) A little bit empty but there is some good potential to improve it much more...

Thierry Gschwind August 03, 2011 06:02 Flag

We don't have picture from her, at least not for this movie...

Kalle Max Hofmann August 02, 2011 21:59 Flag

What do you mean, not important... isn't she Pirk's girlfriend?!? Hehhe :P

Akira Andreas Weikert August 02, 2011 16:08 Flag

:-) But .... ok no girls.

Thierry Gschwind August 02, 2011 11:38 Flag

We don't have pics from the girls, since they don't play really importants parts.
The director thought we don't need that.

Akira Andreas Weikert August 01, 2011 09:31 Flag

Oh, okay, missed the briefing.
Hmm, were do I get pic of the other girl?

Kalle Max Hofmann July 29, 2011 08:02 Flag

I can imagine, probably she got way too many fans and couldn't even go shopping without bodyguards anymore... She could have been the finnish Angelina Jolie if she had wanted it :D

Thierry Gschwind July 29, 2011 07:02 Flag

From what I heard, she doesn't want to have anything to do with Star Wreck anymore.
(Otherwise she would be in...)

Kalle Max Hofmann July 28, 2011 20:56 Flag

a real pity, BTW ;P

Thierry Gschwind July 28, 2011 19:03 Flag

Nice, but the helmswoman is not that movie.

Part 5 Return of the Pirk

I think Pirk returned the balance, all hail the great Pirk ;)

I could also manage to reinsert the logo which provides a good transition with the nebula in the background and the space battle in the foreground.

Okay, so I didn't do the blue thing cause it made things look too... well eh blue.

Looking forward to your comments.

arghhh....too many nice posters!!!!
hm I like also very much the last one...but I'm not sure if Pirk should be in the middle since he is only a side-character...but I agree it looks really cool with him in the middle, since he is also the person everybody knows it is also logic to have him in first position...
I like the font like this.

Philippe Van den Berge July 26, 2011 12:15 Flag

Hi Thierry,

Yes, indeed I'm also looking forward to other peoples opinion. :)

Thierry Gschwind July 26, 2011 11:36 Flag

Cannot decide what is best yet, let's see what other people think....

Philippe Van den Berge July 25, 2011 19:34 Flag

Ze problem captain, is that both pictures are not of same quality to begin with. Pirk's picture was really good, while Stöckli was of lesser quality (not much contrast on face).

They all had the same treatment.

I will add a second version where the characters are left natural.

Thierry Gschwind July 25, 2011 19:12 Flag

Starting to really look good.
Is it me or that constrast filter you applied on Pirk makes him look 10 years older ? Could you apply the same stuff on Stöckli ?

Question for other: What do you think of the title font/style ? Shall we have more smaller element on the side (more characters?)

Like I said, I took a U-turn and started with a fresh slate.

Dare I say I'm kinda happy with the results? ;)

Of-coarse I'm looking forward to your comments, as always.

Hey,

No problem, I will try some different approaches and add Emperor Pirk.

Thanks :)

Thierry Gschwind July 25, 2011 09:43 Flag

Would it be possible to add Emperor Pirk some where in the picture ? I think it's nessecary to have him on the picture, so fans know that he will appear, and to show that the movie is related to other Star Wreck movies.

Have you tried to use other tinting ? Maybe a blueish colour could work, too.

Kalle Max Hofmann July 24, 2011 22:03 Flag

Also an interesting approach! I think the nebula on the lower part is too distracting, it should mainly be black, maybe just using some kind of standard milky way background... because as it is, the ships don't really stand out and you don't get it's in space right away. I think the image would benefit if that was clearer...

Anyway, great work! I personally still prefer Version 2 though, because it has such a great dynamic :D

Part 3

I had to change the composition in order for the other ship to fit in.

I tried several things but the whole started to looking cluttered - like alchemy add one more ingredient to the formula and the whole goes kaboom! ;)

Anyway, let me know what you think!

Kalle Max Hofmann July 24, 2011 19:05 Flag

Thats true, but maybe you could use the bottom left Dramculian ship to replace that second "Enterprise" in the upper row, the one you see straight from the front... because it's perspective doesnt really match the "warp rays", and by doing it you would at least have included one Dramculian ship in the poster... to make the armies of Dramculian fans out there happy ;D

Philippe Van den Berge July 24, 2011 18:27 Flag

Would you believe they all look a little odd. They're great looking ships on their own but look strange once you try to use em in a composition.
Somehow, I think there's a reason the star trek ships look like they do.

But no panic I requested some specific items, and I am confident to make something decent out of it.

I posted, a second one with the ships below, IMO doesn't cut the cheese (there's like to much going on).

Kalle Max Hofmann July 24, 2011 18:00 Flag

I can imagine - on the other hand, it's not as recognizable as the other Trek/Wreck ships. Probably viewers will wonder what it is anyway..? Maybe it'd be better to just add some Drama fighter ships at the bottom that chase the P-Fleet from a distance?

Philippe Van den Berge July 24, 2011 17:58 Flag

Hey Kalle, thanks for your comment.
I really tried with a bigger scale, it really didn't work out.
The Drama ship is a complex structure that can fill a poster on it's own. That's why I'll try a complete other version.

Stay tuned!

Kalle Max Hofmann July 24, 2011 17:39 Flag

Hmmm you're right, it's complicated. I think the symmetry of the two captains is nice. My feeling about the Drama ship is, the wings or cannons or what those things are should match the eyeline of the captains. But then, the ship would probably cut off at the top. Maybe make it 20% bigger so the cut is more decisive.
Well. On the other hand, I'm only a guest here ;D Still my vote would be to forget the Dramculian ship and stick to Version 2 of the poster ^_^

Version 2

I followed Fabienne's advice and made it look less abstract (or plastic looking).

Also, I found the text has been put differently so it has more swoosh.

Thanks Kalle! :)

No worries Thierry, I have well recieved the ships in the mail. I'll be on my way trying to include them on the poster Capt'n. ;)

Stay tuned!

Thierry Gschwind July 24, 2011 15:21 Flag

So I prepared some Dramakulian ships. Had friend over yesterday, and there was the event in Oslo.

Kalle Max Hofmann July 24, 2011 14:53 Flag

Once the Dramculian ship is included, I think we have a winner :D

Philippe Van den Berge July 24, 2011 13:41 Flag

Hey Fabienne,
Your brother didn't sent it yet, but I have no doubt he will (I thought it was your husband - looking at the names :D)

Looking forward to it!

Fabienne Gschwind July 24, 2011 12:53 Flag

Cool, now it looks really great.
I'm not sure if my brother sent you already some Dramculian battle vessels, which maybe could replace some of the ships?

Philippe Van den Berge July 23, 2011 17:59 Flag

Thanks Kalle, I have added a version without the glowing around the captain. ;)

Also the glow from the ships, I noticed there was something wrong with them too.

I think it's finer now.

Kalle Max Hofmann July 23, 2011 17:24 Flag

YEAH! That's really awesome!!! The only thing I find to nit-pick now is the slight white outline around the captain :P

Great work though!!

Just of the press

Of - coarse I didn't yet add the bottom text and the title is also there to give a general idea.

For now it's the artwork, further modification is possible.

Comments are welcome!

Coincidence? Pah! It's the mysterious ways of The Force!!! ...erm... Ooops, sorry, wrong movie ;D

Philippe Van den Berge July 24, 2011 13:43 Flag

Hey Thierry, indeed I had no idea the Orion Nebula would actually be in the movie - I just thought it was good looking.. :)

Thierry Gschwind July 24, 2011 10:29 Flag

Also a nice coincidence that you choose to have the orion nebula in the background, which is actually also used in the movie, since Dramakulian Empire is somewhere located in the region of space.
The animation conatining havn't been released it.

Kalle Max Hofmann July 23, 2011 17:22 Flag

Wow, that really looks pretty cool! I agree though that the "paint effect" on the captains face makes it seem a little too distorted... Still, the best poster design so far :D

Philippe Van den Berge July 22, 2011 19:12 Flag

Thanks Fabienne,
There's no plastic wrap effect involved - but I think I know what you mean. As soon as I have more instructions I'll post an update.
Cheers
Philippe

Fabienne Gschwind July 22, 2011 18:46 Flag

Wow, nice poster. Maybe just reducing a little bit the "plastic wrap" effect on the main persons?
But anyway I like this "milky way" like background and also the font of the title
Cheers
Fabienne

Philippe Van den Berge July 22, 2011 11:57 Flag

Thanks Thierry, looking forward to it!

Thierry Gschwind July 22, 2011 08:06 Flag

I really have to say, that I like the idea of a poster without any "human" on it. But I think then, so poster must really be perfect to attract attention... (?)

Few example:

Angela R. December 02, 2010 22:59 Flag

Alright, here goes one with the small ships on top as well. Using the bigger vessels at the bottom of the raven seemed to unbalance the entire image, so I left that one out.

I also attached the source .pdf so anybody feeling like it can play around and come up with alternate solutions!

Lemo G. December 02, 2010 21:08 Flag

Hum, have you tried switching top and bottom ships on the 2nd?
Maybe some tests with another kind of texture? (keeping it white though)

Angela R. December 02, 2010 19:34 Flag

Removed some that didn't seem to work and added one where the little ships are always maintained at the bottom and the top side is altered (blank starry background)

Please feel free to advise any changes you feel I should make/could test.

Lemo G. December 02, 2010 12:11 Flag

Good stuff :]
Same as Kari, or maybe the smaller ships at the top.

Kari Pihkala December 02, 2010 08:40 Flag

Nice ones! I would like to see the second poster without the ships at the top of the poster. The ships at the bottom are ok.

And the fonts looks good! (Thierry: I know it is annoying when wreckamovie contributors want something you don't like :)

Thierry Gschwind December 02, 2010 08:18 Flag

The concept is good. Maybe we could stretch or squize the the Star Trek font so it is next that obvious.

Kalle Max Hofmann December 02, 2010 02:44 Flag

Nice work Angela! I like the first one best :D
Thierry said he doesn't want the Star Trek font by I think this is very appropriate for a fan tribute ;D

Simplicistic versions...

Just some random simple stuff I made while hunting for better ideas.

I'm still working on it, but please feel free to yell in case any of them contains elements you deem worth maintaining.

Hello Angela

I agree with Kari, the last one, with the ships looking through the eagle is really great. The idea is amazing : )

But also the Twistdrive-Font of the third one is cool...A Tshirt would be a nice idea. Actually I saw in Germany a webpage where you can design your shirt and it is no too expensive (around 23Euro per shirt...)
This would be a nice.

Do you think it would also be possible to use the greek "pi" symbol?

Cheers
Fabienne

Kari Pihkala December 02, 2010 08:22 Flag

The ones with the ship shooting through the eagles head look strange. Looks like the head is split into two.

I like the third one, the one with the text "2PI TWISTDRIVE". Can I have it as a t-shirt? (without the "Star Wreck" word)

Fabienne, could you share the images of the twister vessels? I do not have anything like that and I think it would help me come up with some better ideas for you guys. :)

asd wasd October 24, 2010 11:10 Flag

I agree, Kalle's is very good. It's very powerful, fulfills the standard of saucy film poster very well. Kris' point, the different sized characters, is very important, I think.

(null) October 21, 2010 22:56 Flag

Yeah, I would vote for Kalle's approach, it says "action" much more IMHO. Perhaps his poster benefits from having the different characters different sizes, which gives it a Star Wars-ish feel?

Angela R. October 11, 2010 23:17 Flag

This is not bad at all, although I would personally still try and work towards something looking more like what Kalle suggested...

Sorry, went through all files from Samuli. Don't have the 3d model of the title.
Only the one from original edition.

The title is not definitive and is subject to change.

Ralph Kaeppeli September 23, 2010 15:41 Flag

Well I guess we should start with a good logo for the film title. Or do you want to keep your current red title? Do you want it to look similar to the "Star Wreck in the pirkinning" logo? If yes do you have that logo as a 3D file?

Thierry Gschwind September 16, 2010 07:14 Flag

Nice idea, but Pirk is only a supporting character in this movie.

Fabienne Gschwind September 15, 2010 18:34 Flag

Yes, also a good idea : )
