DescriptionKris (http://www.wreckamovie.com/user/show/1419) suggested that we start a FAQ to help people get familiar with the production. Great idea. I'll add some questions and answers that I think explain things a bit, but I'd love to answer questions from all of you! Fire off questions about Remix Fiction, Martin Aggett, transmedia storytelling, ARGs, or this documentary and I'll get them answered. Thanks for visiting!
ShotsWebsitesWhat are all the websites associated with Remix Fiction and Martin Aggett? Doing It DifferentlyIf you got a second chance to introduce Martin to the ARG community, how differently would you do it? Would Martin be "real" for any period of time, or would he be disclaimed from the very beginning? CommentsI don't spend a lot of time second guessing the mistakes I've made in the past. Without a doubt, the way that I introduced Martin to the ARG community was a big mistake, but it was a huge learning experience too. If I could somehow go back for a "do over" I don't know that I would sacrifice what I learned for a less painful experience. I do regret the fact that several people felt betrayed, foolish, and/or angry when they found out that Martin was fictional. For the most part though, I think everyone who was hurt by my mistake has forgiven me. Martin's Favourite MomentWhat has been your favourite (unplaned) moment/event/scenario that played out while you were in the character of Martin? CommentsThere have been a lot of moments that have made me smile while I was playing the character of Martin Aggett. I'd have to say the most enjoyable time I've had was when I visited some undergrad students who were taking an english course on alternate reality games. I met them on their campus at the University of Mary Washington in Fredricksburg Virginia and we spent about 3-4 hours talking about all kinds of topics. They insisted on buying me dinner and they really challenged my ability to stay in character and answer all of their questions. One of the hardest things about playing Martin in real life is the fact that he knows he is fictional. One of the students really zeroed in on this fact and asked a ton of great questions that, to be honest, I wasn't really prepared to answer. I did my best to "wing it" and ended up having a fantastic time. You can read some of the student's perceptions of the event here --> http://real.zachwhalen.net/category/keywords/martin-aggett When was it revealed that Martin Aggett was Fictitous?Just a shot to maybe help get things started. When (and maybe even how) was it revealed that Martin Agget was fictitious? CommentsAfter Martin Aggett had interacted with people online for almost a year without revealing his fictional nature I came to a crossroads. Many of the people that I had come to know through the character of Martin Aggett were encouraging him to attend ARGfest 2009 in Portland. It was then that I realized that if I attended ARGfest in character as Martin and made real friendships and connections with people that they would feel betrayed and foolish when I revealed Martin to be fictional. In truth, I had already formed friendships with people online through Martin's character and many people felt betrayed, angry, and foolish for believing he was a real person when I finally revealed his fictional nature. If you would like to read more about the reactions to me revealing that Martin was fictional you can follow this link - http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27985 How long had the Character been active before it was discovered he was fictitous? How long had the Character been active before it was discovered he was fictitous? CommentsThe character now known as Martin Aggett has existed in some form or another for about 15 years. He is the main character in a novel that I've been working on (off and on) for quite a while but never completed. In early 2008 I decided to start writing again but the story in my head had grown to the point where it didn't really "fit" in book format - that's when I decided to adapt the story into an Alternate Reality Game. Which brings me to your original question - Martin Aggett started interacting online in June of 2008 with the creation of twitter (@RFMartin) and Facebook accounts. I disclosed the fact that Martin was fictional about a year later on 16 June 2009 after realizing that the project was becoming more like a hoax than an alternate reality game. |
