Wreck On, people :D

Description

Alright you Nightcrawlers and Daywalkers,

after attuning our dark gifts to the subject matter, I think we're ready to throw around some storylines and plot elements.

The surroundings stated in the "Setting"-task are the stage for our story. After centuries of enslavement through the "noble" Vampyires, men have been fighting for freedom for decades and are pretty worn down - not unlike the fight against Skynet in "Terminator". Of course in our case, the sci-fi is replaced by gothic elements.

Another very close reference for the look and feel is "Underworld", only that our world is dominated by fear and paranoia. The story is supposed to deal with themes of alienation, "racism" and misuse of power over a people - on both sides.

Where in classical vampire movies, the vamps represent Satan, we would like to use the vampires as a metaphor for church, turning things pretty much upside down. This is a way to show that things aren't always what they seem and even less what people tell you - our heroes have to find out the truth for themselves, including who is good and who is bad.

I personally like a story of backstabbing and revenge with a good deal of emotionality in the form of romance - nothing like a good buildup that bursts into a climax of rage in the end ;P

Of course, all these factors are up for discussion, so let's hear your story ideas and the new polling feature will light the way!

Yes, we're imagining the scenario to be somewhat similar to the future warzone of the Terminator movies - only that in our case, humans fight Vampyres instead of robots ;D

To make it more interesting though, we'd like to start out sympathising more with the human side (which is quite obvious hehhe) and then showing that the Vampyres aren't really that bad, both sides make mistakes in their judgement and there are "good guys" and "bad guys" in both camps.

Since "Underworld" has been described as "Romeo and Juliet for vampires and werewolves", we'd like to have our story a bit more gritty and sinister.

Baptised by blood

Vampyre Princes 3D - Synopsis for film - Samuli Jomppanen 8.8.2010:

Vampyre princes is story about vampire called Christiana, who is human sympathizer in a world dominated by vampires and their government like papalry. Humans and vampires live in a co-existence, where vampires have managed to make humans into believing that only be attending to their churches and giving their blood, they are kept safe from Daystriders, who according to legend once threatened both species. Basicly layed out that both species need eachother, as Daystriders cannot attack humans during night, as vampires are strong then.

Vampire world is puzzled by numerous gone missing vampires. Vampires have started to believe this is because of possible human uprising against their not so friendly neighbours. Papalry lead by Archbishob Nyal, who saved christiana from certain death by siring her from human to vampire, blames these events the works of Daystriders, because humans have started to oppose the church. Because of this, he starts to force humans into giving their blood.

During one of the major blood ceremony, an explosion occurs, killing many. Christiana who is also attending this ceremony, sees an suspicious man escaping the scene and follows him. Christiana follows the man, but goes straight into trap layed by strange group of humans. Leader of this group, Joel, tell Christiana that there is no need for the Vampire protection, and leaves Christiana to his fate, trapped outside the citadel where everyone lives, to face the rising sun.

As the sun rises Christiana notices she's completely OK with sun, unlike her bretheren. Joel makes an appearance and tells that Daystriders never hunted humans. It was Vampires who killed everyone, but then these powerfull luminous beings called Daystriders appeared, and started to kill Vampires. Vampires how ever found out that, Daystriders do not appear if there are humans around and awake. So they taught the little remaining humans into believing that Day is ruled by this evil being called Daystrider so humans should not be out during days, but instead during nights to keep the Daystriders away from the Vampires. As Christiana asks how she has all the vampire abilities, but can stand sun. Joel states that Christianas was not saved by Nyal, but instead of one of these luminous beings, who practically lifted her off from her dead mothers womb. As Christiana asks how does Joel know all these things, he states that he is Christianas brother who managed to hide, before the vampires killed her mother, before Nyal arrived with his human huards to the scene, he had seen the Daystrider saving her, before getting scared off by the humans.

As Joel has claimed Christianas vote, he asks that could she open the city for them, as Joel wants every human out of the city, so Daystriders may claim the vampires and their papalry. Christiana agrees. During the next night, they return to the city as its gates are opened. Christiana is tasked to go to the Cathedral of the papalry during morning, and open all the gates into the city while most vampires are asleep.

In the meanwhile Joels people will start moving people out of the city. Christiana however faces strange half- human, half- vampire creatures, who guard the Cathedral. She and Joel battle their way throught the lot of them, to reach the switch to open all the gates.

This switchh is inside sturdy building, and obviously somehow protected from the effects of sunlight. As Christiana and Joel are activating the switch, Nyal stops them. Christiana confronts Nyal about the lies he has told to her. Nyal will not have any of this and engages Christiana. Joel with what men he has with him, hit the control, and defend it.

As the gates open people leave the city in masses. Fighting is going on in the cathedral. Joel hears that all of the people have left the city, the switch doesnt matter anymore, so they leave and escape the city. Meanwhile Christiana and Nyal are duelling and Nyal eventually seems to have won, until he notices how the city is void of humans and the gates are closing, making the city a deathtrap to vampires. As Nyal is about to kill Christiana, an Daystrider appears and kills Nyal. The daystrider is bright luminous being, only to be depicted as angel look a like. It is quickly revealed that these are gentle creatures, and Christiana recognices this particular Daystrider to bear resemblence somehow to her mother.

I really like the bit concerning the "Vampire church" and the humans having to donate their blood to them...

Samuli Jomppanen August 09, 2010 18:06 Flag

Oh no, not again pointy ears :S .. My idea of the daystriders was actually that they are sort of "angels". As Vampires are sort of Hellish creation, and as their numbers grew, something had to come to balane it out. Unfortunetly for Mankind, Vampires outsmarted everyone.

Kalle Max Hofmann August 09, 2010 17:46 Flag

Yes, I love this air of paranoia created by the "who is who" question, especially in "The Thing" which is one of my top 3 movies ^_^

Julius Tuomisto August 09, 2010 17:17 Flag

What if the daystriders would have "elven" features (like pointy ears) and be depicted as "creatures of light". Also it could be nice if the story included some twist playing with this, such as in "The Others", meaning that who is who and what alignment (good/bad) they represent could be interpreted differently in diverse parts of the movie.

Kalle Max Hofmann August 09, 2010 16:17 Flag

Haha yeah I can imagine that happening after 4 days of Assembly2010 ;P

Why don't you edit around a bit in your original posting, and develop it a bit more?

Of course, also try to get some good rest and healthy food soon... I've slept for 12 hours tonight ^_^

Samuli Jomppanen August 09, 2010 15:30 Flag

Yah, i was kinda.. in the edge of "wake" and "sleep" when i wrote that.. So anyway the idea in short is that, only Vampires need man to be around them to keep these Daystriders away, During day, when Vampires themselfs are basicly defensless. How ever during night they can fend for themselfs supposedly. So it might be smarter to flip around a bit of this, ...

And not really. I just sat in the train and read about this film of yours (for first time actually) and thought quickly up this thing.

Kalle Max Hofmann August 09, 2010 10:43 Flag

Good story! I guess you had some of that in mind before going on the train?

One part I don't get though, in the begining I understood the vampires would look after the humans at nighttime and vice versa. Later it says though, that the vampires taught the humans to be awake at night so no daystriders attack the vampires. But that way, no one would be awake at daytime and the daystriders could come and easily kill of the vampires?

Education Plot

Since it is focussed on the Princess, I think an education plot would work well. As the child of the royal family and especially with the possible secret of her half-humanity, she could have been raised as a superior being. She believes humans are nothing more than a sub-species, created to serve and to feed upon.
It is only when 'captured' (rescued) by the lead guy that she realises everything she has been told is wrong.
It is her love for the man and the acceptance of her true (dual-)heritage that enables her to forge a long lasting alliance after defeating the leaders of both armies.

I like the idea of opening on her face and panning out as the camera rotates to show her hanging upside down 'bat' style. Maybe so blood runs to the head to concentrate her power. A psychic Seer?

What if the vampires were fallen angels?

Just a quick one now as I don't have the time to elaborate further. Just an idea for the main plot line: What if the vampires were fallen angels that have "taken blood" from humans, the very race that they were supposed to protect. For this reason they are outcasts from "heaven" (infact what if we would make "heaven on earth" and twist the plot that at some point it turns out "heaven" is a city on earth).

The vampires are old and tired - they seek reconciliation with god, but a "snake" (meaning the bad guy of the movie) has slipped into "Eden" and is manipulating god and his "angels" (preferably very beautiful ladies - in fact what if "vampires" were all men and "angels" all women in the movie - that should draw acceptance from the women's magazines;) to continue the hunt for vampires.

The main character of the film - the vampire princess is the only child ever born to the vampires. She is the offspring of an angel and a vampire and seeks to "reconcile" (meaning total carnage naturally) the differences between the two sides. She was raised by her father as her mother died in birth (wrath of god?). In the end she meets the bad guy (or woman in this case) and an epic battle ensues where "heaven and hell" collide for the first time since the "beginning of time".

Hehhe not bad as all, as Angels seem to be the next big thing after the waning vampire hype. Now all we have to do is rename the film to "Vampires vs Angels" and we have a surefire hit ;P

Of course the main idea here is to make the movie we want to see and not run after the latest trend. Still, I think your idea - maybe in combination with Samuli's - is an interesting alternative!

The 'be ashamed of what you came up with' shot#1

If you can call this unfocused, strange, incomplete and undetailed thing a shot.
It is just here in case it sparks any ideas.

-------------------------------------

Holy water ritual:
"But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication.
Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth
fornication sinneth against his own body" (Corinthians 6:17-18)
"For Only the holy and pure shall bless waters and bind them to the holy spirit
Only the holy and pure shall bless waters that lead the beast into the
light and redeem it's fallen soul"

This is the grand catholic priest blessing the waters.
After the ceremony, a nun approaches him and says she had vissions, an
angel appeared to her and told her about a place and time where the
vampires are planning to
hunt for humans to feast on during the princess's wedding.
the event turns out to be true, and the nun becomes very close to the
priest. Shortly after, she tries to seduce him out of the blue and manages to do so.
Later we finally understand why when she is reporting to the vampires
who hired her promising eternal life. the vampires report to the
princess.
They still want a proof that this makes him incapable of producing
holy water, which was one of the reasons they set her out to do this. When she tries to find out the priest becomes suspicious
and
lets his spys follow her. Once he knows the truth he abuses her even
more and finally one day he tells her about this laughing and of
course has to kill her.

The grand priest knowing about the hunt, prepares a human time bomb,
he chooses a very nice and innocent child girl and puts her on a
silver+whatever alchemy diet
that they use on the holy water.
After the hunt, the hunters report to the princess and her soon tobe
husband, they choose the girls for the feast and since the small girl
is so nice the husband decides to keep her for his son to feast
on.
They also decide to give the 'fat ugly ones' to the people as a
present which happens publicly on the street showing that vampires
also have classes and also have 'poorer' people, servants, cooks, etc.

The thing is, vampire weddings happen in reverse and take exactly [START EDIT] 7 days. Of which 6 are for procreation and the last one to rest and celebrate.
The husband and
bride sleep together at night, and after one day, the bride gives birth, and the
child grows to become 6 years old in 6 days.
During the last day, the 'wedding' ceremony happens [END EDIT]. One day after the hunt to keep'em fresh.

The child melts after feasting on the small girl, deep sadness then
turns into revenge starts eating the princess's heart.

--- EDIT, alternative ----
The small girl survives, 13 years later, she becomes our heroin princess, fighting for abolishment of the casts alongside humans against her brother who is 1 year yonger and is leading the vampires with rage, brought up by his father.

maybe I can come up with a variation that does not need the unbiological procreation, although we might be able to explain that as well ... or is there anything else unbiological in it?

Kalle Max Hofmann August 11, 2010 14:00 Flag

Yeah, there really are a lot of nice touches there! I personally would prefer a vampire mythology that works completely without religious elements, as this would be something new.
In case we drop the idea of "biological vampires" though, this story would definitely make an excellent side story or spin-off, like a prequel comic book, animated short or something of the sort...

I cannot die.

At one point in time, a fight takes place between a worn out vampire (the princess?) and a strong human (the identity of which i do not know yet).
In a setting with no sharp objects (e.g: a deserted field). The vampire is worn out and much weaker than the human, so the human starts breaking the vampire and hitting it as hard as possible, however he cannot kill it, even after breaking it's bones. It's a long intimate agonizing fight of sweat, blood, pain and despair. The last option for the human is to try to dig out the vampire's heart by hand to squash it, what happens then depends on the characters and rest of the story.

The Heroines Journey

As a big fan of Star Wars this basic storyline always gets me: A person who feels caged (or limited) comes across a mentor who lights the way to self-fulfilment.

So my story would go like this:

The Vampyres are not supernatural beings but "merely" mutated humans who basically have a totally different blood cycle. Most of their inner organs do not function (so they are hard to kill) but their cells very effectifely use the energy from fresh blood, which they have to feed on once in a while. Directly after a "meal", their senses and powers get boosted radically, which is a state that only lasts for a couple hours at best. Depending on some unknown factor in the process of "turning", every Vampyre has a certain strong point that is boosted by fresh blood. So some get superhuman strength, others have heightened senses up to telepathic levels, others can move super fast or a mix of those.

Of course, the Vampyres have kept it a secret that their powers aren't effective all the time, so they can opress the humans. They have made up all those legends about themselves and give a "demonstration" from time to time, to keep people in awe.

In my story, we'd start on the human side who demonify the Vampyres, only to cross to the other side and get closer to the truth. The hero is a soldier in the human forces, basically a grunt. He has a brother who is in the intelligence department and sends him on a mission where his unit captures the Vampyre Princess, pretty much the intro sequence of the film.

It becomes clear right away that Soldierboy despises the Vampyres, probably they killed his parents or something. So he really doesn't mind when the Princess is tortured at the human camp to reveal the vampyre's battle plans. Well eventually he thinks it goes a little too far, when the human leader commands the next step: The humans have secretly restored an ancient device (21st century technology) that makes a readout of the brain and they should use it for getting some information out of the Princess that way. Only problem is: The brain has to be removed for that!

Killing the daughter of the Vampyre Overlord seems a bit drastic (and cruel), so the Soldier is just about to speak up when something unexpected happens:

His brother storms into the room, mortally wounded, and kills all the guards except for our hero. The brother urges him with his last breath that he has to safely escort the Princess to the castle of some outcast Vampyre lord. The hero is of course totally against it as he hates Vampyres, plus it's dangerous, and his brother has just killed his comrades! But, as he has to grant his brother his last wish as he is dying, he agrees to do it.

So they set out into the night for their several-day journey where they are attacked by both sides. Eventually they have to cover for each other, save each other's lives and get to know each other - the classical Han&Leia routine ;P

The Soldier learns that the Princess hardly has any powers and has been kept on a short leash by her father because she is pretty much defenseless, from a Vampyre's physical standpoint. To compensate for that, she has had extensive battle training, but still her father never let her participate in the fights she longed for, as she is really a proud member of the Royal Vampyre Family - just as stubbornly "patriotic" as the Soldier is for his side.

At last (after about 45 mins screentime, hehhe) they reach the castle of the Outcast Lord. Here, the Soldier really has to watch himself so he doesn't get drained by the mistresses... classic Dracula fare ;D

The perils are worth it though, as the Lord reveals that actually, the Princess has the perfect Vampyre brain and theoretically has access to all their powers at once! This puzzles our heroes of course, but the Lord cannot give real training, just some pointers... think "The Matrix" hehhe ;D

He suggests they set out and search her father's quarters for more evidence and an explanaiton for all this. Using her newfound powers, the duo manages to get in the Overlord's chambers where she makes a gruelling discovery: She isn't even a Princess of noble origin, but just a human girl from the streets, that has been abducted like hundreds of others - who had been disposed of, when their turning hadn't led to the "perfect Vampyre" result. However, with the Princess' being a successful "experiment", the Overlord raised her as his own daughter (Vampyres do age albeit slower than humans) to use her for breeding some kind of master race when the time came he also found a perfect male specimen.

Eventually, he learned of the human's "brain scanner" and out of impatience decided on a different plan: As the human's fortress was too hard to take and the machine too big to steal, he would let the humans capture his daughter and analyse her brain - and then steal that data, to scientifically create the "Super Vampyres" he wants.

OF COURSE now he has a little problem, as the Princess goes into super rage mode (y'all probably have seen "Alien Resurrection" as well) and kicks some fatherly butt.

As a little extra twist, in the end the Hero's brother turns up again - he had managed to use his last strength to get hold of some Vampyre blood, thus turning into a Vampyre - not too bad, as his work in the intelligence had taught him that Vampyres aren't what they seem to be but that they can be quite likeable and thus he decided to thwart both leader's plans, so finally everyone wakes up to the fact that maybe the time has come to work together, not kill all life on the planet.

Cute, huh?

:D

Of course that would be possible, since the Princess was abducted as a child... but maybe we should save that for the third part of the trilogy ;P
To be really mean and create Twilight-like romantic drama and anti-hollywood storytelling at the same time, we could let them be lovers first, and siblings later... "Luke, I'm your sister!" *throws up* hehhe ;P

J. R. Smith August 11, 2010 04:13 Flag

Hmm... I was thinking... along the star wars line of thought, what if the princess and the human hero end up being brother and sister. like Luke skywalker and princess Leia? Or is that way to obvious?

Kalle Max Hofmann August 09, 2010 19:49 Flag

The movie will be 90-100 minutes long, and we will cast the actors after the script is done... so at this point we're pretty free with the character creation. Would be better to avoid too many mass scenes though ; )

Jad Nohra August 09, 2010 19:40 Flag

How many actors will there be? how long will the movie be?

Kalle Max Hofmann July 29, 2010 10:23 Flag

Oh yes and about the end; you took that too literally. By "everyone" I meant the three heroes that have assembled. They have decided they have to fight together now, even though they once were enemies. This is pretty much an invitation for sequels of any media type ;D

Kalle Max Hofmann July 29, 2010 10:20 Flag

Hehhe I thought the "brain scanner" will be too dodgy for some people - I think it's great as a totally silly Grindhouse element like the jar of balls in Planet Terror ;P
Of course it's up for discussion how stupid you make this. For the Overlord's plans, maybe some MRT data using today's technology would be sufficient. Then again, it wouldn't help the humans and they would't have to kill the Princess ... well in short, it's a plot element that is "weak on purpose" to give a b-movie feeling, but I'm not insisting - feel free to bring up ideas to replace it :D

Michael Schubert July 28, 2010 16:15 Flag

Puh, i already like the scenes when they are about to kick some asses ... .
I have an issue with two things: first, i am not sure if i like the idea of a "brain-scanning-device". That's a bit too Ed Wood for me ...
And second - i know, you want this to be the perfect mashup of Underworld and Twilight or Django and SexAndTheCity ... ;-) ... but i would suggest to give the movie an open ending. Don't let it end like a Disney-Movie! Let's try to find an end that makes it possible to come back to this world in some years, and still find some interesting things to tell ...

Wal Friman July 27, 2010 18:34 Flag

Good vampire characters.

Kalle Max Hofmann July 26, 2010 13:45 Flag

Good point! I think the "blood-drinking" is a very strong image/gesture for the bonding and self-sacrifice - I only was afraid it's really overused and clichéd. But you are right, in "our world", it's a different thing altogether: he doesn't let her drink his blood so that she is saved from "starvation", but he does it to let her kick in her superpowers and thereby saving the both of them :D

Hannu Hoffrén July 26, 2010 13:33 Flag

Heh, yeah, cute. :D But I like it.

One small thought on "their several-day journey" and / or on "kicking some fatherly butt". Should the soldier boy let the Princess drink some of his blood at some critical point so they both will be rescued as she gets her blood rushing?

Cultural aspects of Royalty

Being that she is of royal lineage is it then safe to assume that she will be well versed in things that are somewhat cliche when thinking of royalty?
I.E. classical music, literature, education, poetry, etc. plus interests in political maneuverings and the art of manipulating political enemies. Perhaps the vampires have a parliament and/or a house of Lords complete with Human sympathizers of varying degrees. Possibly Some in the house of lords could even be advocating that humans have a few seats in the house (as foreign representatives of course) This would lend itself to many different possible plot twists and intrigues. Also it could be used as a means to explore aspects of today's flaws in governing systems, and how any government can be used for good or evil.

The Princess should definitely display clichés of royal behaviour, otherwise she wouldn't have to be a princess ;D

Still at the time the film is taking place, I imagine it more like a divided battleground where the humans are defending some fortified city, with the vampire army holed up nearby and of course the vamprire leaders being shown in their castle. So the atmosphere is more like World War I where companies are holed up in their trenches and whoever comes out gets shot, so it's kind of a stuck situation with the constant fear of the enemy coming up with a new tactic that will allow for a devastating attack....

"What ifs"

What if - The heroine was pregnant at the time she was turned and lost her child because of being turned, hence she bears a deep yet almost forgotten hatred of vampires in general or at least the one who turned her because he/she knew she was pregnant and also knew it would kill her unborn child.

What if - in addition to the above, she feels some sense of self loathing because in the process of turning it was her own body that killed the fetus by feeding on it thus causing its death. (almost like cannibalism of a child by its mother) And although she had no way of protecting the child she feels guilty and repulsed by what happened, and she has hunted for the one that turned her ever since. And has made a vow to kill the one responsible for turning her.

What if - it was her parents/friends/someone she trusted... who in fact caused her to be turned through some accidental action/inaction etc. etc.

Anyway just a few thoughts...

Yes, but you can't show the fetus being consumed by the body... because it happens inside. And having some doctor or nurse say "by the way, your body is consuming your fetus" is... well, difficult. Same her telling someone, "you know, when I was turned, my body conusumed my unborn child"...Unless it's written and acted out in an academy-award worthy manner, it will probably not come across too well ^_^

J. R. Smith August 08, 2010 02:00 Flag

Perhaps a scene in which her feelings bursts out uncontrollably or the story could include cut-scenes periodically of her reminiscing about it. this way the event and her feelings about it is played out for the viewers but not spoken per say.

Kalle Max Hofmann August 07, 2010 05:18 Flag

Hehhe this is really in my line of thinking, as *minor spoiler warning* I wrote some similar side story into SNOWBLIND ;D

So unless this should become some trademark, it might be a bit much to use it again.

Still I especially like the feeling of guilt by the body feeding on the own offspring. Could be difficult to carry across in a film, as you could only tell it by having a character say it, which isn't as powerful as using that idea in a novel for example.

We should definitely explore feelings of guilt and accusation in this story of war and "race"-related hatred!
