Closing Note

Thanks a lot for the shot - we decided to pick Stephen's idea "Truth Today" as the name of the newspaper! Good work everybody, a lot of great ideas were born here!

Next we should work on the logo, I'll drop an idea and let's take it further from there.

Description

In the earlier task

http://www.wreckamovie.com/tasks/show/140

We asked for submissions for the satirical newspaper in the style of Onion and Metro. We've had nice amount of submissions, which is great - and now: we need a name for the newspaper.

Give your best ideas! And logos are more than welcome as well!

T.

The Truth

I think the paper should be called something that it is not....

The Truth

or Truth Today (to imply that the truth changes every day)

Truth Today is a very good one, we decided to pick that as the name of the production!

Jack Malinowski January 21, 2009 14:43 Flag

I could second that emotion!
The Truth.

Also:

The Only Truth
The Truant Truth
Truancy

Or

Our Struggle.

Mooning the Truth!

;)

Timo-Heikki Mäkelä January 21, 2009 09:26 Flag

Great idea! Short and striking. I love that! :)

Or perhaps: The Moony Truth

Black on White

I've often seen that expression (at least I remeber seeing it!) when people are talking about printed media.

So this is further one suggestion by me, call it "Black On White" (gives nice shortening BOW

Achtung schweinehunde!

Often the simplest solution is the best, so I suggest ACHTUNG!

Of course, if the paper is supposed not to be published by nazis just yet, it should be a spoof of an existing trash tabloid. In which case I suggest Ilta-Panomat or Iltaseksi.

Okay, I admit I am on sexual overdrive cos I am in love. How about Husaari? Daiily Tatar? Or maybe simply Dimes. Or Der Sterb.Or simply FUN with the altered Sun logo.

Just a thought ...

Plan Neun vom Weltraum (a nod to Ed Wood with Plan Nine from Outer Space)
The Odd Republic
Das Volksrakete (a play on Hitler's invention, the People's Car, or Volkswagen, the People's Rocket)
Das Volksraumschiff (The People's Spaceship)
The Occult Times

Okay ... I'm reaching. I like Plan Nine from Outer Space. I thought it would be a nice touch.

Grammatically nicer would be Plan Neun aus dem Weltall since the alternative German title for the movie was Plan Neun aus dem Weltall.

Newspaper Name

Actually I prefer:

"The Dairy Planet" with a cow logo but the name is already being used for some milk company website, or
"The New Pork Times" with a pig logo but also the name is already used by a restaurant.

Nationality

Despite the language in this newspaper will be English, it would be important to know where the paper is from, i. e. where it is published. Is it a Nazi propaganda newspaper or is it a stiff British high-class journal, etc. This would affect the choice of a title, of course, since you would not call a British newspaper “Der Völkische Beobachter” (“The Völkisch Observer”) or a Nazi paper from the Moon “Earth Daily”.

The paper is Earth news, released by the people of the earth.

Associated mindsets

Thinking of The Onion, I first thought

The Moron

would be an appropriate title. To associate it to the movie plot a little, I considered adding some parentheses

The Mo(r)on

but I don't think that would look too good in a printed newspaper head. So my proposal ends up being

The Lunatic

The International Enquirer.
The Lunar Monthly (published every 29-1/2 days).
Thursday (A star Wreck nod).
Spirit of a new age.
Rakentenzeit (rocket time).
The News 2.0
The Conspiracy Theorist.
Tin Foil Times.
The Backgrounder.
News Reduction.
The Aortan times.
The Globalist.
The Coordinated Universal Times, or just The Universal Times.
Sky Times.
The Observer's Guide to Humanity.
GTFO.
The Disinformer.
Disinformation Technology.
Newsburst.
Infobights.

Or variations on the above.

Edit: As for a logo, I reckon the Iron Sky logo without the wording.

papyrus bi-weekly

We should acknowledge that in the year 2018, normal newspapers wouldn't exist in printform. So, this particular newspaper is something special - the titel should reflect that.

Something like
THE DAILY PRINT-OUT
PAPER NEWS
THE WORLD ON PAPER
PAPER FEED

we could add little disclaimers:
"the DAILY PRINT-OUT can not be hold responsible if paper starts to burn."
"attention! if paper not handled with care, it might cut fingers"
"printed on the paper of happy trees"

or something completely different:

TOMORROW
THE NEW NEW YORK TIMES
