The SNOWBLIND 3D -team is looking for your ideas and comments. Join and show your support for SNOWBLIND 3D. NEWS BLOG: Ongoing Adventures Of Snowblind
DescriptionSnowblind's status has been changed from "Post Production" to "Completed" here on Wreckamovie on the 6th of June - which was of course a great moment for Bastian and me :D Still this doesn't mean that all work is done now - on the contrary, as we probably have opened some kind of Pandora's box ;P So let this task be opened to follow this project's adventures after leaving the comforts of home and setting out into the harsh, unforgiving world of movie business. And no matter if our "baby" ends up as president of the U.N. or under some bridge covered in yesterday's news, let us always be proud and remember the baby steps here at Wreckamovie :D Bless you all,
ShotsAre you serious???I found this production on VODO. I don't usually post on blogs but I had to comment on this one.
More 3D StillsHere are some more 3D stills for our viewing pleasure - as always, you need red/cyan glasses for those to work. Well progress on the 3D version is really amazingly fast. The only thing that is holding me up is that I keep changing stuff while I'm at it... fixing minor mistakes or sometimes even restyling entire scenes... Sometimes being a perfectionist really gets in the way ;D CommentsIt's alright, I trust you guys... and will simply nudge someone again in another four months if there has been no progress so far. Thanks for taking the time to answer / give some details in the meantime! And worry not, this kind of thing is not new to Wreck, I remember waiting for some Iron Sky poster for half a year before finally resigning to nudge Energia about it... 8P Well about the frame, that's not really my fault... don't want to tattle but Peter hasn't given me the buyer's data yet... =/ Of course when the DVD is finally there, you'll get an autographed one... and the price will definitely be reasonable ^_^ Well, just let me know when the DVD is finally for sale (hopefully at a reasonable price), because I would really like to snatch one (assuming it will include Italian subs so that I can show it to my family and friends, haha!) Oh, and it should be autographed, of course. 8P And by the way, what happened to that nice film frame I purchased some four months ago to test the wreckamovie store? ^^' Absolutely... no wait! I think I'll just throw all those new and improved shots in the FIRST version that is gonna come out in a couple weeks... after all I'm not James Cameron ;P Did you know you need to buy a Panasonic TV to get the 3D Blu-ray of Avatar this Christmas? Sheeesh... ...on the bright side, when you are done, you will have a completely new, completely upgraded version of the movie, which you can then release together with a few additional scenes in a special metal box which you will call the "Über Wunderbar Perfectionist Director's 3D Cut". ...or something. 8) Checking out YouTube 3DYouTube has a kind of "hidden" 3D functionality that gives the viewer the option to display the stereoscopic material in all kinds of ways, especially covering all the different types of colour filter glasses. The player seems a bit buggy though, if the video gets chopped up just press the "3D-Button" again to switch the display method, then it should go back to normal. Also, embedding isn't possible as of now. So, this is just a test for a longer 3D Demo we're going to put up sometime in the next weeks. Furthermore, we've got "YouTube Partner" clearance now so we're able to upload a feature length video, which we're gonna do sometime in november to finally show Snowblind to the masses ;D
Take a look: edit: Okay embedding works, but the 3D button isn't there, so you gonna have to click on the YouTube logo to open the vid in YouTube... CommentsThanks guys! Yeah of course we get money from each click on the ad... so let's just hope these ads will be interesting so lots of people click them ;P To get the partner status, you either need to have an immensly popular channel, or you have to have a film company. With us, it was the latter obviously ;D Yes the work is awesome. Making me think about Lev 3d :) I never dremt it could be achieved without major studio help. I can also see that the hit count on your profile has nothing to do with the partner status :) How did you apply and achieve the "You tube partner" status and how much did it cost? Do you get a cut from the ad income? Awesome work ! Some Screenshots in 3DJust when you thought the film was at last finished visually, we're opening up a whole new bag... The stereoscopic 3D version! Since all elements are in place now, it's time to push them into the 3rd dimension... and because all the backdrops are computer-generated anyway, this isn't as difficult as it may sound. The plates with the actors are a different bag though... since we don't want them to look like cardboard cutouts, we have to warp them individually. Take a look at that very close closeup of Clayton and you will see the extent of modelling we're doing. Generally, seeing the film in stereo is an incredibly awesome experience. All the stuff that looks a bit too abstract (aka fake) in the 2d version suddenly appears to be photo-realistic! Even the totally weird stuff!!! Well the downside of this process is that we'll have to do two months of nightshifts now... but after that, the only question that will remain is: Resident Evil WHO?!? Hehhe ;P CommentsBesides 3d aint' that grind house anymore, so some of the scratches may go. make it wonder depth wise back and forth :) Oh yeah and you asked about the dirt - I guess that's something we'll have to try out. Actually we can't leave it out entirely because then the edits that are based on analogue film cutting, as a kind of in-joke, won't work anymore. I think it'd be the most logical to leave the scratches in the center (depth-wise) as if you had a 3D movie on celluloid, the real scratches that come from the projector also would appear to be in the center. Probably this effect is quite interesting, because scratches in the middle will help you to judge the depth of all other things... err, if you know what I mean ;P Probably it will be okay to reduce the amount of scratches though... because from what we're looking at now, the image quality of those clean 3D images is really close to breathtaking 8D It really does :) I actually taught about it long time, that what the * you have done :D Now I know, thanks. Cool Seppo... only hope you didn't end up with those movies running on red/green glasses instead of red/cyan... cause they don't work with our stuff =/ And Sami; well I guess the van movements will stay as unrealistic as they were... unfortunately, we didn't get any of the 3D artists we know to help us out, so we had to make the van out of three 2D-layers and animate everything by hand! Recently I had the idea of slowing down those shots to make the unrealistic physics less apparent at least but on the other hand... it ups the trash factor and thats what we are going for anyways ;D I just had to buy me a DVD that was released as 3D version to get me a pair of 3d-glasses. The real reason is naturally the curiosity waken up by these pics and clips about Snowblind. ;) Kalle, those look great! Only thing that caught my eye as undealistic, was some of the van movements. Looking forward to see the stereo version. What are you going to do with the dirt? leave as it is or make it float like a space debris? :) W3 R L33TAnybody noticed this task has the number 1337 (see URL) ?!? Awesome! I also happen to look at my watch each day at 13:37... LOL sn0blind p0wnz n00bs, or something ;P CommentsOh yeah cool, well at least I played the original game on the C64 when it came out :D
The Elite 4, the game. You are aware that the only leet are the ones who have played the original elite to the level elite. Mine happened 6.12 1990 with PC :) There might be a multiplayer mode in elite now a days :) On the other hand they might never get it out because of the quarrels. Erm #4 of what? Anyway, I certainly hope that the Snowlind Egoshooter will have a special cheat mode for me... otherwise, I`ll get blasted 5 secs after every respawn, like in every other shooter I try ;P R u w0rthy 0f the t177|e? R U 1337? U r challenged as s00n as they get #4 out! The Blu-ray OdysseeFor the Berlin Premiere, we had to get the film onto a Blu-ray disc so we can play it in Full HD at the theater. "No problem" I thought, just go to someone wo has a BR-writer and then push the button... Think again, this kept me busy for almost a week! First I had to find someone with a writer... the next problem was to get the film encoded into a format that is compatible. I had my Mac render a h264 file for frigging 16 hours, only to find out it was worthless. Also, my investment of >1000€ into Final Cut Studio 2 proved kind of useless in this case, as DVD Studio (which is included) doesn't do Blu-ray... Final Cut 7 does, but that would've cost me another 249€ and money is a bit tight at the moment ;P Finally I found out that Berlin's post company Venim has a BR-writer AND Final Cut 7... which has something really close to an "export Blu-ray" button. So it was another night of rendering, and after some trouble with unwilling render clients, we had a disc by the next evening... one where the "skip chapter" function only works on SOME players. Welcome to the 80s I'd say ^_^ Anyway, I tested the disc at the theater and it played just nicely, so everything is set for sunday :D Thanks to Hicka from Venim again for conquering the Blu Dragon ;P CommentsOnly read this now... it appears I am lagging. 8P But hey! Glad it all worked out in the end... ^^ Yeah it seems that Adobe Encore is the only Mac software you can use to author BRs with a menu... Wonder why it has to be so complacited each time again :-/ Sami we used h264 with 32Mbit data rate. As I said, converting that down from uncompressed full HD took 16 hours on my trusty MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo ^_^ The other formats you can use for BR are (as I understood) MPEG-2 and HDV, which both have lesser quality to size ratio compared to h264... on the other hand, I obviously am no expert ;P Apple doesn't make any bd- burners http://store.apple.com/fi/search?find=blu-ray&mco=Nzc1MjMwNg Only model is made by lacie Steve would like you to buy your media from itunes Ok, for the "Verhäxt und Ufgspiesst" Premiere in december 2008, we wanted to show the movie in HD with Surround Sound.
I don't understand the difficulties either. When the format war ended in 2008 I was sure that by the end of the year everybody would have a bd-burner in their corner. remembering how fast the cd-burners came to home computing, thou music industry opposed. Maybe the film companies have more money to oppose the spreading of bd - burners, or somebody learned a lesson with the cd's. Like Kris said, its all about files nowadays. And a HD-film file ain't that small :) What codec did you film Snowblind with?
I think one problem (at least for me as a Mac-user) is that Steve Jobs thinks that exact same thing; that physical formats are obsolete - hence the almost non-existant support of Blu-ray by Apple. This whole episode totally reminded me of the 90s when you would try to make a DVD. Making DVDs is totally easy today, but it seems they started the whole thing over with Blu-ray... especially the menu programming seems to be very complicated once again. Damn I always had the feeling HD-DVD made more sense. Thanks, Sony!!! ;P Yeah, we ended up playing HD material entirely from hard disks at the WAM Festival. Only one person actually sent us a blu-ray disc. I don't quite understand why it's so difficult. Is there some kind of licensing issue here? Seems a bit suicidal if there is, physical formats themselves are in danger of disappearing. The Emden PremiereOn June 7th, Snowblind saw it's first official screening at the 21st Emden International Film Festival. The venue was the historical Apollo Theater, a building which is under preservation order for its cultural value. Again, a very fitting environment that sort of expanded the film's look and feel into reality. We should have brought cowboy hats for everyone - well, maybe next time ;P The film was received extremely well to our relief. In the first half hour, people laughed and even screamed at all the right spots. Of course, some of these hollers will have been caused by disbelief over the amount of kitsch we are throwing at the audience, or even some of the "bad" effects, but this is just how the film is supposed to work ^_^ Then it went quiet for an hour which kind of made us nervous... but soon enough it turned out that people were just holding their breaths - as the ending produced the excitement and laughter we had hoped for. In the following Q&A, we got a lot of praise and even more laughs, while our beautiful talents Indira and Nadine got admiring stares from the crowd, and some flowers from festival director Rolf Eckard. Mr Eckard continued with the presents as everyone got the festival's mascot, an "Ottiphant" - and your humble directors received a wildcard entry to the festival with our next project! This really is a statement and a gesture that is quite unheard of in my opinion and we are endlessly grateful for such a great compliment and motivation to continue our moviemaking efforts! Our deep thanks go to all our team, the sponsors, our supporters here at WAM and elsewhere, Mr Rolf Eckard and of course everyone who attended the screening, the after show party and the post-after show party twist contest at Emden's infamous La Grotta Disco :D Thankyouthankyou,
Commentscongratulations WOW! Really cool to see that you got the movie completed and shown to the world! Now we just need to get a few million people to see it! Gazillion thumb ups! |
