A teaser that needs sound

What the topic says.

Edit: now with sound. I need to get better at sound editing, but it's better than nothing.

That's so freaking good (that one without sounds. I can't turn my sounds on for various reasons). Well done!

I knew that, but Firefox opens them with a white backround! I don't have time or tools to make a teaser right now, so never mind.

David Jansson June 16, 2010 14:11 Flag

It's white text with transparent background, so you need to open it in a program with a background that isn't white.

Daniel Saarimäki June 14, 2010 16:49 Flag

I can't see what there reads...

Maybe a slight zoom.

But, I can't help but think that what the text says needs more work. Or maybe I need to accept that the con is in less than a week and just go for it. Yeah, i'll do that. Guh, where did I pack my Intuos? I haven't unpacked everything since the move from the school...

Sami Laulajainen June 14, 2010 06:29 Flag

PNG files accepted, just keep the resolution over 2000 X 2000. Do you want them to be still slates or with a slight pan ?

David Jansson June 13, 2010 11:32 Flag

Some more feedback

The only thing that I don't think works backwards is when the Stickstart fires it's torpedoes. The Plingon torpedoes are always green. and I think it will clash to much with the final film.

I am thinking about making something handwritten for the text. If I do that and attach the text as a png with transparency, can you use it?

David Jansson June 05, 2010 22:07 Flag

Oh, no more material, just updated material.

David Jansson June 05, 2010 22:06 Flag

Thank you!

I will need to do some thinking on how to develop this. All the teaser versions you people have cooked up so far has been very valuable, I learn something new I need to develop with every one.

I can't find any shadows, I think you are mistaking the debris from the asteroid for shadows. Though if it's so easy to see it wrong it needs some work, it's just that that scene takes so damn much time to render. Many asteroids, many particle systems stacked on each other. So I think I will just consider it a lesson learned for the scenes I haven't animated yet.

Sami Laulajainen June 05, 2010 17:59 Flag

Glad you like it and thanks for the proof reading again : It should read "wasted". Now it is just a weird word play :) Maybe the font is too hard on human eyes. :)

This was a half a day quickie and I didn't have time to consult you (or the forums) about anything. Since there was not that much material to work with, I took this as a challenge and a cooling day from "Uneton48", that has kept me busy for the last month. I also took many artistic liberties, hope not too many.

I'd like to hear your ideas about tag line, font, color scheme, plot and all the other things I invented for this one and I can make adjustments (and additions if you render more) easily for a next one. The project is still open on my edit drive.

I cut, slowed down, reversed and sometimes all of the above to achieve the visual result. The stills kinda come on to the face, but they are mandatory: You got to have the bad guy in a trailer. I didn't have time to play with the after effects. They might give a nice touch for the next one.

For the audio I used Jani Lautaoja's "sleepless" as the base song. Royalty free and free of charge. You can find him via FB - jani lautaoja, WAM - LEV or MS - http://www.myspace.com/kyberjan You can contact him, He does requests too :)

The sound effects came from http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/

They sell audio, but have a large collection of free and royalty free audio and a good search engine for such files.

The part that needs work (if not done already) is the part where the ships cast shadows onto the nebula. If the shadows are there for a purpose there should be some other form on the surface: Now the shadows give away that there is a flat nebula quite near the ships. I picture the nebula (with out the shadows) light years away and not flat.

An excellent job all together. Can't wait to see more animation from you.

Daniel Saarimäki June 05, 2010 17:13 Flag

Yeah. Those texts hurt my eyes. Specially in the end.

David Jansson June 05, 2010 15:52 Flag

"Looks like there is more material. I'll look into that."

I need to retime the character animation scene. Have the Vulgar hide the remote when the captain is almost done turning, rather than at the same time.

Tomorrow is moving day, today is packing day. But once I have unpacked and stuff i will try to get it done.

David Jansson June 05, 2010 15:49 Flag

Nice!

The font is hard on the eyes though. Love how you have incorporated some of the stills as well.

And what sound effects are you using? I think I want some of that in the finished film!

Waisted, I think you mean Wasted, unless it's a play on words with how Stick Figures pretty much lack a waist.

Sami Laulajainen June 05, 2010 14:30 Flag

Looks like there is more material. I'll look into that.

Teaser 0.0000001

Just made something without music. I have a song for this, but it sucked, so I removed it.

It needs some fixing. I will add some effects to the texts with Blender and make some more editing clips later.

Joel Saarimäki June 03, 2010 11:50 Flag

Oh really XD ... We tried to make music and we allmost did it XD

Thierry Gschwind June 02, 2010 18:59 Flag

Without music it's quite boring...

Sami Laulajainen June 02, 2010 17:59 Flag

What style of music?

What kind of music would you like to be used with this teaser?

We tried it allready. Daniel got bored to music recording after 100th take XD

Daniel Saarimäki June 02, 2010 08:26 Flag

I will make my own teaser when I get those videos in different format and Joel is going to play in that one :)

Joel Saarimäki June 02, 2010 08:20 Flag

I can make some XD ... But I can't make anything good :D

Angela R. May 31, 2010 07:57 Flag

Have to agree with David, I'd also pick something starting elegantly and ending in a somewhat maniacal fashion... just cannot think of any specific samples right now... :/

David Jansson May 31, 2010 06:03 Flag

Wow, I don't know. Standard Hollywood with an insane twist I think, but shorter. Or as close as you can get. If you find music that fits well I might use it for the full thing as well.

What file format should I use?

Xvid doesn't work for some. .mov doesn't work for others.

It needs to have sufficient compression for me to get the largest file below 20 megabytes. What do you think?

Thierry Gschwind June 02, 2010 19:00 Flag

You should use .mov with H.264 codec... that's also available on WIndows quicktime and can be used from most editing software.

I don't think you should do any big changes to your character animation...

Peter Vesterbacka May 31, 2010 20:51 Flag

I think it's a great start, you have come a long way already! Of course things can always be improved, but you should still be proud of the progress made. Keep up the great work all of you!

Daniel Saarimäki May 31, 2010 19:31 Flag

David, i finally got the renderfarm working! If you want to, i can help you with it. My first video is currently being rendered there :)

David Jansson May 31, 2010 19:07 Flag

Aaah.

Anyway, as I said in Daniels post, I need to improve the character animation and make the flight of the Plingon ship less jerky.

Thierry Gschwind May 31, 2010 19:02 Flag

I cut some stuff out and accelerated the second one. And also there wasn't much to make a teaser also. We had actually ten time the amount of clips than used in the teaser of Star Wreck 2pi.

David Jansson May 31, 2010 18:50 Flag

Well done, though my idea was that you would not use the full clips.

But gah, the animation I have done needs som work...

I hate .mov

What does the title say? I really hate it. I have to convert those videos if I'm going to try to make a trailer...

Crap. I did it since Kris said she couldn't open the Xvid ones. I need to to do some improvements in the animation of movements, it became clear to me that there are problems when I watched the teaser Thierry made. Once I have made said improvements, new files will be attached.

Thierry Gschwind May 31, 2010 17:51 Flag

The films are in HDV MPEG2.

That works ONLY on Quicktime with OSX. You need to convert your file to H.264 or Photo-JPEG.

Maybe we should make rules about Codec use on WAM.

Daniel Saarimäki May 31, 2010 15:28 Flag

Dammit. My converter crashed.
