Thanks for all the suggestions and shots, they've been really great! :)
We're going to close the task now as we've begun filming the office scenes, so we need to get the mockup covers printed.
One of the characters in Overlap works for a trendy magazine that covers music, film and fashion.
This magazine has been going since the 1980s up to the present day, so 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010 photos and styles would be acceptable.
Their office will have old covers of the magazine on the walls.
-Can you design covers for this magazine? It has to be creative commons so we probably can't use any pictures of real celebrities, but if the picture is in the style of a celebrity photo that's enough.
-And/or can you think of a name for such a magazine which hasn't already been used in real life?
(If you can't think of a name but want to design a cover, just use the title "Overlap".)
Some real life reference images might include:

Okay I just watched this Star Wreck movie last week. Here is a quick shot just for the joke, as I'm probably gonna have to find a decent HD photo bank, that Energia would actually approve :p.
EDIT: Zip file with psd and fonts
Hi again, sorry for being so late, but school's been more busy than expected. Thought I'd give you two samples at least, so you can tell me if I'm going in the right direction or not.
The difficulty lies in knowing what to do, rather than how to do it.
As you can see, I haven't written any name for the mag yet. But I liked some suggestions.
Had this idea about the Overlap logo and while sketching it in Photoshop, had this urge (probably due to energydrinks) to continue it to a magazine cover. But now my free time's up so here's the result.
I'd seriously run with Overlap as the name of the mag... it had a good ring to it ;) Here's a sample idea... Kris, I hope you don't mind, I "borrowed" your image?!

Another thing for trendy rich people out there. This magazine task is actually quite fun to play with :p.

Sounds like fun! What timespan do we have? Does the mag have any genre? Like 'hip' 'old' 'extreme (fashion/music)' ??
Also, old covers, does that mean like from the 60's or does it just mean that it's not super recent?
Okay, it's not very creative yet, but maybe I can figure out better things (the big problem, ist that all good titles exist already : (
-Tren&Sty (kind of recombination between trend and style)
-airstyle
-visual style (in fact a word of microsoft)
- Hear&See
-the looker (from the expression "to be a looker")
-see the trend
-That's New
-T'Mag (abbrevation of "the magazine")
-STMF (Style, Trend, Music, Fashion)
- Upface-Downface (yes...I know, stupid idea)
-Timeline
-UPtoDATE
-Trend-Log
Prom-Ice
Gad Getter
Wolfs Gang
Do You
Vulcanic Ash
Normally magazines have a general layout, with for example a typical titel and always the same characters or so...
Would it be necessary to create first a king of "main-layout" before different people create own styles?

Indeed. Truly unforgettable. Sure changed my life! 8P
Everyone had fun on that shoot, it was an amazing experience. :)
Yea I saw some of those vids last week after finding those high-def images.
Apparently Angela and you had a lot of fun on this shooting =)
"Erm, don't you think you're kinda overreacting here"
Well, I agree there is room for improvement but even this is pretty good. And I'm especially glad you understand exactly what we're looking for. :) You've got the right style.
"Also am I the only one who cares about Energia's copyright, or are they just cool enough to appreciate this kind of cameo? "
I am fairly sure Energia is not going to worry about copyright. :D They are fine with derivative works, and Star Wreck was released under Creative Commons anyway.
Heck, when the 2pi fan film started they even took part in the film themselves, and let the Gschwinds shoot the cameo scenes in Energia's own office:

(BTW you can see me at 1:35... ;) and Angela was there too.)
Erm, don't you think you're kinda overreacting here ^^'.
Also am I the only one who cares about Energia's copyright, or are they just cool enough to appreciate this kind of cameo?
This is supposed to be a 150dpi A4 format, and I can't go any bigger with the Star Wreck material, but if it's far in the background, I suppose people won't notice the pixels indeed.
Effin' nora, that's just absolutely wonderfully splendidly splendid with extra sprinklings of splendid on top! :D
Wow. You've got this 100% right Lemo, well done indeed!
The plan is to print some of these as A2 posters for the backgrounds of the office shots. Perhaps this resolution might be good enough for that purpose? Obviously in real life it would look fuzzy but the viewers would only see it within a video.
Thx Angela, well yea that's the place where I found it ;).
Brilliant!!!
