Closing Note

The teaser was well promoted thanks to your ideas, and got around quite well!

Description

The second teaser for Iron Sky is out and has gotten some 190,000 views in the past four days. That's a very nice number indeed!

Yet, there are still a lot of people who haven't seen it. In comparison, the trailer for Avatar got some 4 million views when it was released, becoming the most popular trailer ever released on the Internet.

So what we'd like to hear now is your ideas how to promote the teaser further. And your help contacting sites and communities who might be interested in Iron Sky.

Here's some of the things we'd like help with:

- Contacting bloggers in you language & linking our teaser and site.
- Commenting on those blogs and encouraging discussion.
- Spread around the http://www.ironsky.net/demand/ link.
- Getting discussions going on your favourite forums & letting us know what people think.
- Visibility in traditional media in your area. Quite often radio stations and newspapers are happy if you drop a news tip for them. This is our press site that has the essential information for journos: http://www.ironsky.net/press/
- Getting on the front page of Digg.

Reminder: I don't think I need to tell you this, but obviously spam is verboten.

Japan, Korea etc.?

Have any of you spotted the new Iron Sky teaser on Japanese, Korea etc. video sharing sites? Or any news about it those languages?

The teaser is quite big on Chinese video sites, but we wouldn't have found them without a bit of luck because they use a translated name for Iron Sky.. So is there anything in other countries we might not have found?

Iron Sky media tracking

We try and keep a list of all Iron Sky stories & discussions on Delicious: http://delicious.com/ironskyfilm - they are also posted automatically on Twitter to http://twitter.com/ironskyfilm

If you know of a story that hasn't been linked there we'd like to know. Especially the non-english language stories are sometimes hard to find.

Also, it's always great if people comment on blog posts or if there are Iron SKy discussions on forums they use.

Well, it is not a secret, I mentioned it already at 2pi shootings, but perhaps you were not around.

There is now a WAM production for the second teaser. Join the fun!!

Angela R. May 17, 2010 16:31 Flag

Indeed, I am sure a lot of people would love to help! :D

But then again, keeping it secret has the advantage of surprising everybody when it comes out...

(null) May 17, 2010 16:16 Flag

You sly fox Kari, why did you keep it secret that you'd done the Rust Sky teaser? It's probably the best "remix" of all... :)

You could set up your parody as a production on here, I'm sure we'd love to help with it.

Angela R. May 17, 2010 16:13 Flag

Oh, oh, oh oh oh oh oh!!! *cannot wait* XD

Kari Pihkala May 17, 2010 16:09 Flag

Ok, I started to draw the storyboard ;) Soon going out for location scouting...

However, I do feel myself a bit stupid parodising myself.. and now as I have met you, the makers of Iron Sky, and know that you are great guys, I wouldn't like to mock you too much..

But, I do have some evil ideas... Get ready... to be kicked in the arse ;)

Angela R. May 17, 2010 12:33 Flag

Definitely! :D

(null) May 17, 2010 12:31 Flag

If you can get clearances for it, I would put Rust Sky on the DVD/Blu-Ray as an easter egg... :)

Jarmo Puskala May 17, 2010 12:27 Flag

Oops, I hope I didn't say anything I shouldn't have...

But Rust Sky is still our favourite :)

(null) May 17, 2010 11:19 Flag

Jarmo, Kari did Rust Sky? As in Kari from 2pi? Wow, never knew...

And yes, would be great to see another one of those, and another lego/duplo one as well ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61dVecQKb-M ).

Niko Tuomi-Nikula May 17, 2010 09:23 Flag

Italian movie magazines and blogs

Just thought I'd note that the following Italian-speaking movie websites were already approached, to avoid spamming:

http://www.fantascienza.com (They published an article in 2008)
http://www.cinemalia.it
http://www.cinebazar.it
http://www.cinemadelsilenzio.it
http://www.cineclick.it
http://www.mymovies.it
http://www.cinema.it
http://www.cineuropa.org
http://www.35mm.it

Further, I mailed a few personal contacts working for the publisher hachette.it

More will follow as quickly as I can find suitable contacts. ;)

Hi guys, just wanted to say that I stumbled upon a guy outside of the production that was promoting the movie on his website. He's really excited and has told everybody about it.
Cool!

It's actually very much fun doing this... my very first WAM contribution was on occasion of the teaser release. It's a lovely feeling of deja-vu...

Iron Sky in Der Spiegel Online

Der Spiegel published a video about Iron Sky, with the new teaser and behind the scenes footage (including young looking Timo & Samuli :).

If you've got german speaking friends who haven't seen the film this might make a good first impression: http://www.spiegel.de/video/video-1065679.html

(ie. do post it on Facebook if you know a lot of German speakers)

(Sigh)

Nazi Spies....

How unheroic :

San Diego's famed for it's defense industry installations (besides it's colorful meteorologists). Perhaps you all could get Thor & other famous Nazi UFO captains to try to recruit Californians to transfer to the motherload of American airfields and 10th best place to live in surprisingly temperate Canada? Gander, Labrador.

:I

Well maybe not Thor, no one will believe he's actually a MooNazi spy.

Comic Con 2010

Iron Sky needs to have a presence at Comic Con in San Diego, and it needs to happen this year even if the film is not released until 2012.

Comic Con is a huge event and positive word of mouth there can translate into serious pre-release Buzz. The TV Networks have come to recognize this to the point that they moved the dates of their summer Press Tour event so as to not compete with Comic Con.

Your presence there can be as extravagant as having a both with monitors showing the trailer, Booth "Babes" in costume, displays of props / models / pre-production art, and plenty of handouts (gack). Two years ago Warner Brothers had the entire cast of Watchmen on hand for panel presentations and autographs as well as a full size mock-up of the Owl's flying ship.

Or, you can do a simple "guerrilla" campaign -- a couple of workers in Iron Sky shirts & hats walking the convention floors and hallways passing out flyers, posters, DVD's of the trailer or CD's of the theme music, any gack at all, and answering questions.

The could put up posters with the Tag Line:
There Are Nazis On The Moon -- Will You Be Ready When They Return?

Or...

There Are Nazis On The Moon -- And They're Coming Home

This year's Comic Con is already sold out (for attendees) and you need to be there. That is 125,000 attendees plus the press. Even if your team just stands on the street next to the convention center and pass out Iron Sky post cards you will reach thousands.

There is a cost, of course, but this publicity will be worth it.

"The political Left and Right are busy calling each other "Nazis" (It is the Neutron Bomb of political discourse ending all reasonable discussion) so at first glance some might misunderstand and take offense. "

It's not just Americans, that seems to happen more and more in Europe as well. I've heard people use it about traffic wardens when they get a parking ticket... it's just devaluing the word.

And yeah, very few people seem interested in actually discussing things, they are keener on demonising each other, and see any real exchange of ideas as treachery.

That's why I'm hopeful that the current Liberal-Conservative coalition in the UK could actually be quite a good thing... Time will tell.

David L Reinke May 17, 2010 17:36 Flag

@Kris "They're not still fighting WW2?"

Thankfully not, however...

The political Left and Right are busy calling each other "Nazis" (It is the Neutron Bomb of political discourse ending all reasonable discussion) so at first glance some might misunderstand and take offense.

On the other hand, Comic Con can be pretty feel wheeling and inside the hall almost anything goes. The Waffen-SS Space Shock Troops would make an impression no doubt about it, but they would also be competing with legions of armored Clone Troopers, Halo Spartans, Space Marines and sundry other military forces.

@Jarmo -- Indeed, finding the right actor would be a challenge, particularly that week in San Diego. Of course it could also be quite effective. Imagine one two Paperboys yelling out, "Extra! Extra! Read all about it -- Nazis found on Moon!" It could be very funny.

Jarmo Puskala May 17, 2010 17:15 Flag

Thank you David! That is very valuable information. I think we should at least consider the following:

1) The registration are swag tables with Posters & Truth Todays'.
2) Pins
and
3) Possibiility of doing the "Iron Sky paperboy" thing.

The last one would require quite a bit of effort, mainly finding a local actor/performer to do the paperboy thing. It's harder than it looks... I know, I've tried :D

(null) May 17, 2010 16:24 Flag

Cool shot and follow-up David!

"Given the current climate in the US, the uniforms might be misunderstood."

WTF...? They're not still fighting WW2?

David L Reinke May 17, 2010 16:18 Flag

If you have "Agents" with passes to get in (fans who were lucky enough to obtain their tickets before the event sold out) you could give them items to pass out inside the halls and to fans waiting in line for the various events.

Outside the convention center your Agents (wearing IS T-shirts) can pass out flyers, posters, and gack at the pedestrian crossing points. These are crowded areas with many people passing out flyers etc.

The hotels and restaurants near the center are also thronged by attendees, another place your Agents could pass out items.

Putting up posters is more difficult. The city is pretty strict about that. You could do it and probably get away with it, but the city of San Diego might not be too happy with you. Likewise, you might approach a restaurant to allow you to put up a poster of banner at their outdoor patio where it would be seen by many, however the establishment will probably want some payment for that and no doubt many companies approach them with the same request.

Upstairs in the convention center's registration area,(The Sail Area) there are tables set up on which various companies put stacks of posters, post cards and flyers for pick up by attendees filing out of that area. Almost everyone passes this point and many stop to pick up good looking posters. Iron Sky's poster looks great and would be much sought after (or so I think).

If your Agents wore IS T-shirts and hats that would certainly attract attention. Wearing SS uniforms would be a trickier proposition. Given the current climate in the US, the uniforms might be misunderstood. Inside the Hall would be less of a problem but outside...

One handout might be a "newspaper" with headlines creaming out that scientists (or NASA or astronomers) have found evidence of Nazis on the Moon. Or that some crank in the desert has been intercepting radio messages from the 1st SS Areo-Panzer Division, but the government has rejected his evidence as just so much nonsense.

Pins, like unit crests, are a much sought after item at Comic Con. Attendees like to collect them and put then on their badge lanyard. A couple of good looking designs (1st SS Areo-Panzer Div, Allied Space Defense Command, etc.) could be big hits.

The fact that you will be inside on several panels is great -- perhaps you can "sneak in" an assistant or two who can work the halls at your panel passing out items.

Hat wise, it seems to me that a standard baseball cap looks good, but an M43 pattern cap would be far more distinctive and closer to the look and feel of the film itself. Agents in IS shirts wearing M43 caps would really standout, even in a sea of costumed insanity that is Comic Con.

"So any cool ideas for going the guerrilla route?"

Nazi astronauts handing out flyers and/or DVDs at the entrance?

Jarmo Puskala May 17, 2010 15:46 Flag

We will indeed be at Comic Con 2010!

However, we've learned that they've actually have a two year waiting list for booths. So no booth for us, but we'll be there. And I think Timo is in a panel or two too.

So any cool ideas for going the guerrilla route?

(null) May 17, 2010 15:31 Flag

Sounds like a good idea that's well-suited to Iron Sky.
