Closing Note

Now that Cannes is quite far away in the past, it's good to thank you all for this, and close this task - here are the results:

Description

Maybe you remember, maybe you don't: last year we did a pretty cool excursion over to Cannes Film Festival with Iron Sky. We filmed every day of our visit, and released them under the name Wreckin Cannes in YouTube. So far, we've had over 35,000 viewers, so in a way, we were pretty happy with them.

Now, we want to do it again. This time, we want to do them the way you'd like to watch them. And we want to do them 10 times cooler than last time!

In this task, we are asking from you on some ideas on how to improve the Wrecking Cannes -things. What kind of issues you'd like to be addressed there? What format would you prefer - just shooting something crazy, or doing it a bit more organized way?

Your ideas are valuable!

Here's a link to the first year's episodes:

Why people should see this movie...

Hi,
I am reading interesting material around here but no one related to a simple question which might come even from the most unknown journalist:
Why people should go to see your movie?

It's plain. It's simple. It's scary... Well, I can only say why I personally want to see this movie, beyond the genre, the CGA effects, the fun...

We are living times during which any ideology has been destroyed for economic reason. It's very easy to control people which don't believe in anything.
It's very easy to sell them everything... Anything to make them feel less "empty", but always consumers.

Also the raising (i can speak only for my country, Italy) of movements which claims that the Nazis never existed and Auschwitz and the Holocaust never happened.
They are not wearing black suits. Not all of are blond-haired with blue eyes. They have a normal job and normal life...
And they got even the attention of media and newspaper.

Only the intervention of the leader of the Italian Jewish community remembered to the Italians what the WW2 meaned for millions of Italian jewish.
But there is always fear and embarassement in speaking about this matter... It's gone. And that's all.

"Iron Sky" is a Sci-Fi comedy, like Ira Levin's "The boys from Brazil" was a Sci-Fi thriller...
It is entertainment, but it's a kind of entertainment which helps to stay awake.

Simone

Well, she certainly knows that the "Space Nazis theme" is not new for the Sci-Fi literature...
Robert E. Hainlein wrote short stories based on this concept even during the last days of WW 2, and this is revealing about how she knows very well the Sci-Fi literature.

But I can't remember any movie based directly on this sub-genre.
This is another reason why I think the concept behind this movie is great...

And this production is entirely europen, and independent too...
Which is great!

That is the most interesting question of all.

I have not seen the manuscript for this film, but I believe, that the writer Johanna Sinisalo has had again something special to say, when she wrote the story with the guys of Energia production.

About the writer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johanna_Sinisalo

And I guess it is, as you said: "...entertainment, but it's a kind of entertainment which helps to stay awake."

Man In Black Costume

Since wearing nazi uniform in public is probably forbidden in many countries, I want to see energia staffs wearing man in black suit interviewing people during Cannes.

Long black leather coats+hats like the one used by Dick Tracy. That could work.

Philipp Immel February 21, 2009 00:12 Flag

The SS were often wearing long black leather coats. This could be very distinctive.

This idea might work! Good stuff...

Live and interactive

Would be really cool to have lots of short and live or near live shots. A really interactive video blog or something like that. You could do short interviews with people you bump into, just random people in Cannes, no need for this to be about stars or "famous" people. Anybody can be a wrecker;-)

mogulus.com and justin.tv cover live broadcast.

Live - that's wonderful! Now, if we were to try live, what would be the possibilities - is there a service that can do live? And, is there a camera that can record live? Some mobile phone camera - if, some suggestions (to find the right sponsor :)

Characters from the film

Have characters from the film interacting with the general public.

See how long you can dodge the police whilst dressed in Nazi gear... maybe not.

I thought it was cool enough last time, except that one awful comment about Australian sexual practises :-(

Time duration of Wrecking Cannes II episodes

Vary the lengths between five and ten minutes?

Short ones for single topics, longer ones for mix of topics.

I enjoyed the whimsical nature of the first Wrecking Cannes vids.

A few

Giving people a clear picture of what exactly Cannes is and how it all works would be nice.

Perhaps a few comments at the end of each day by each member of the crew on how the day went etc.

Reports from field

Kind of liked the spot when you were trying get closer look at Indiana Jones fever and making report of the things in the field. So more reports on what is happening with other movies in Cannes.

Short shots, but many

Instead of giant 10-minute episodes that deal with every topic possible, I suggest making lots of short ones that each has only one subject. That way it'd be much easier to watch the ones I'm most interested in, post them on to my friends and blogs, and so on. Also, you could tag them with more care (which people are in the clip, what topics are dealt with etc) so one could afterwards browse them easier.

Yes, very good advice there!
