Description

To make the base a bit more comfortable to live in, the Nazis have posters here and there in their quarters and common rooms as well as the cafeteria. Here's a good chance to get good visibility for your ideas/design works in the game AND have fun in the process. :)

What we're looking for is, for example:
- Movie and theatre posters
- Adverts (German products, naturally)
- Propaganda
- Dance band posters

The style we're looking for is 1940s poster style, the movie titles and poster texts should be in German (you can ask for others here to help you translate them). Both completely imaginary movies/products and 'Germanified' versions of existing things are welcome.

Note: Here's also a good chance to get your own WAM-productions their own easter eggs in the game by making some vintage faux-German posters out of them. :)

Again, as usual, we accept both written ideas and actual graphical posters. Feel free to collaborate with each other, you've already shown you're very good at it. :)

[Edit: Forgot to mention one thing - please note that if you use pictures from the Internet (or any other third party source) in your posters, you have to be sure that they are public domain (and allow commercial use) or we cannot use your poster. We'd also appreciate if you told us in your shot the sources of the pictures you've used. Thanks!]

Nice, I can already think of several ways how we might use this.

Medal Certificate

Well here a shot for a medal certificate :) Made this one for Major Heinrich. Could be lying around somewhere ...

Wauw!

I would believe that a guy like Major / SS-Sturmbannführer Ernst Heinrich ( nice touch with the firstname btw. ) would frame a certificate like that and put it on the wall as an example to follow.

Pierre Heinen July 18, 2011 08:40 Flag

Cool :)

Matti Delahay July 18, 2011 08:29 Flag

Looks very good!

The base military uses SS-ranks instead of Wehrmacht ranks though - I thnk the nearest equivalent of Major would be SS-Sturmbannführer, but I'll have to check what rank our Major Heinrich ended up with - we've adjusted all characters' ranks to best fit their intended positions.

And on and on...

I found today, while my research, three interesting posters again :)
And I tried my best to create a poster about Milk, because I couldn't find one.
So I took a photo and experiment around with it.
I hope it doesn't look like total crap xD and has this german retro touch.
The Slogan says: " Drink Milk! Because it's good and pretty oneself up."
I orientated myself a little bit by the poster about granary bread and a typical slogan about milk.
I have another more precise version too, but I thought that this style looks better.
I hope it's useful.

1.) Tomorrow's officers.
2.) All Hands take hold.
3.) Attention! Spies!
Caution in conversations!
4.) My own poster idea.

Yes, for a first try it's excellent work!

Chantal Mueller - Novas August 22, 2011 11:45 Flag

My pleasure again! :)

And thank you *-*
It's nice to hear that, but it looks really a bit too modern >.<
But I think for a first try it's okay :D

Matti Delahay August 22, 2011 09:41 Flag

Nice, thanks again!

The milk poster looks cool, but I can't help feeling it may still look a bit modern for a 40s setting?

Chantal Mueller - Novas August 19, 2011 10:48 Flag

Thank you :D
Klingt schon besser o,o, sollte ich das denn wirklich dann noch abändern?:)

Pierre Heinen August 19, 2011 07:17 Flag

cool idea with the milk poster :)
Würde aber eher: "Denn es tut gut und macht schön" als Slogan druntersetzen oder?

There's more to come

I found three other posters today, which are appealing and maybe inspiring.

1) Borgward
Cars from Bremen

2) All Germany listen to the Führer
with the Volksempfänger (it's like a Radio)

3) Eat granary bread
because it's better and healthier

Indeed, Have to see what can be done. =/
But I like this style, too :D
Especially this "happy people" - image, where everyone smiles. x]

Pierre Heinen August 17, 2011 09:01 Flag

Good investigation :) I really like those comic-style commercials :) But alas not that easy to recreate or imitate, except by a good drawer ...

No worries, reference/inspiration pics are always welcome too. :)

Chantal Mueller - Novas August 16, 2011 16:39 Flag

My pleasure and thank you for the comments! :D
I am glad that they are workable, but you're so right xD I totally forgot about the copyrights and about what the socialist party would say to this :x
I shouldn't work so late at night :D

Matti Delahay August 16, 2011 08:02 Flag

Nice reference, thanks! As Pierre suggested we probably shouldn't use these directly in the game, but they're still great for inspiration. :)

Pierre Heinen August 16, 2011 06:39 Flag

Some cool Posters, but what about the copyrights? Some products still do exist ;)
And I guess the NSDAP would not be pleased to find out, that someone put election posters for the socialist party on the walls of the base ;)

Triumph des Willens

Well, we got a Leni-shot at the German Star posters, thanks to Philippe and we got a 3d-film projector ... So there's no way around a poster for the "Triumph of the Will" (German: Triumph des Willens) the Leni-directed propaganda movie ;) (update)

Yeah, an animated texture is what I was thinking of, we'll just have to check how that will work when we've got the time. :)

Kalle Max Hofmann July 14, 2011 15:11 Flag

@Matti: yeah, I can imagine it could be difficult. Of course it would also be possible to turn it into some kind of animated gif or loop, I think it's not necessary for people to stand there for hours to watch a full movie like in the game "The Darkness" hehhe. Could be more like the mystery TV shows in "Alan Wake"...

Matti Delahay July 14, 2011 12:06 Flag

Kalle: That'd be really great, thanks for the offer! We'll have to see if we could make that work in the game. It might take some time to see how it works though since it's not a high-priority feature. I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

Philippe: Thanks for the address, checking with them would positively be the right thing to do before using the poster with Leni's face.
First, though, we're going to make some decisions with the core team here at the office about where we want to draw the line on direct references to (& clearly recognizable likeness of) real people (other than those community members who have asked to be featured). We've talked about it before, but we didn't draft any proper policies back then.

Pierre Heinen July 14, 2011 11:12 Flag

@Kalle: That would be cool ;) Nation's Pride, never seen a movie with a more deeper meaning ... Ach ja ...

@Philippe: Thanks :)

Kalle Max Hofmann July 14, 2011 10:29 Flag

@Matti if there's a projection room, does your engine allow for video playback there? If so, I may be able to give you some material similar to the film "Nation's Pride" that was shown in "Inglourious Basterds" ;D

Philippe Van den Berge July 14, 2011 10:05 Flag

Hey Matti, .I would have send a mail myself but since I'm not the production chief, here's the mail to the Riefenstahl estate: info@leni-riefenstahl.de

Very very nice Pierre!

Pierre Heinen July 14, 2011 09:02 Flag

Well I have been totally wrong on this one, I am sorry. I meant of course the non-famous Reni Liefenstahl, not the popular Leni. Reni has been the director of some B-Propaganda-Movies ;) never really the star, but more in the background ;) (Thanks)

Matti Delahay July 14, 2011 08:52 Flag

Just to be safe, could you make an alternate version of this that doesn't mention Leni's name?

I'll put some research into which one we can use, but it's hard to reach conclusive results in these matters without expensive legal help - in borderline cases we'll have to go "better safe than sorry".

Matti Delahay July 14, 2011 08:22 Flag

The visuals are really great in this one! There's a convention hall in the base where propaganda movies are often shown with a projector so propaganda movie posters would look great there.

As a side mention, we'll still have to check whether we can use the earlier Leni-poster - as I see it there shouldn't be a problem using a poster like this without any material from the actual film other than the title, but using people's faces (even of celebrities) might not be permitted.

Thanks Matti :)

Thanks Pierre, yes I was ein bisschen without inspiration for the text - I'll try that one - thanks! ;)

Matti Delahay July 13, 2011 07:34 Flag

Nice. ;) The Pinup of choice for true friends of the Reich in the base. :D

Pierre Heinen July 13, 2011 06:27 Flag

If you want to add a sentence, what about: "He Jungs! Ich steh auf Männer in Uniform!" meaning: "Hey guys! I dig men in uniform!" Keep up the good work on the posters ;)

I fully agree with Markus, the colours look really good! The look is maybe a bit modern, but not too much in my opinion. We could have this one spread out in guard posts and such to raise morale. :)

Philippe Van den Berge July 09, 2011 23:20 Flag

Thanks Markus, I'm glad you like it.
