Russian nationalism

How about a character who's a rapid Russian nationalist? Someone wishing for the supposed glory and power of the USSR.

You could play on the different understandings of Russia today. For example, Gorbachev is viewed in the West as a benevolent character who helped dismantle the monster that was the Soviet Union. But for many in Russia, he is "the man who destroyed our country!!" (quote from a young Russian politician).

That could give you the 'conflict' you need in a script.
