I do not know how realistic they are and can't remember which episodes. I need to do some checking. Update: Found on example. Season 4 episode 9 of BG has a nuke explosion in it. See attached screen capture. |

BSG nuke explosions are some of the most handsome in scifi, only the anti-matter explosion in Angels & Demons is more artistically impressive. However, neither explosions are realistic. Well, the fact that there is an all blinding flash with BSG nukes puts it ahead in realism, since the Angels & Demons anti-matter explosion's flash was anything but blinding, merely bright. At the same time, the BSG flash builds far too slowly and lasts too long, and the camera viewing the explosion doesn't blackout to protect itself or otherwise burnout.
Yes and the last season with final episodes there where some nice battle scenes with a huge big nuke explosion.
In some episode of first season, the Galactica itself takes direct hit of tactical nuke on starboard flight deck if I remember correctly. Damage was limited. It looked pretty awsome though. The hit is also one of those scenes during each episode opening texts.
