@Matti: What about a control scheme like in Canabalt?

http://www.canabalt.com

-Similar scheme as in DKC1 (SNES) mine level.

The vehicle follows a predetermined route, but the player has to react (avoid obstacles, brake, and maybe shoot).

Then again, this could probably accomplished better with mine-carts or a bobsled.

Matti, just a story idea off the top of my head: maybe the character thinks they can make an easy getaway from the base with the snowmobile, but an unavoidable event means they just crash it into a wall after a couple of metres.

Sort of a comedy moment, if you see what I mean... The glimmer of hope, the cool-looking prototype, followed by the unexpectedly poor but non-deadly outcome.)

Really awesome designs, we'll try to have some blueprints at least in the labs.

Carl: That'd be cool, but we wouldn't have time to make a well-balanced "race" sequence - we'd have to get the vehicle controls and handling right or it'd be awful to play, and that would be too much work I fear. :/

Indeed! There's always room for schematics in those engineers' laboratories!

As to a prototype in a collapsed ice-tunnel... that makes me think of Indiana Jones and the Fates of Atlantis, when Indy drove the excavator machine in the ring around the city. 8P

Well then, how about a partially constructed prototype, schematics, or a dramatic chase through a collapsing ice-tunnel ;)

That first one would be made of win and awesome. Too bad there aren't any outside sequences =/
