ACT 1

Scene 1: Airport in southern Europe

Man (Matti) comes to Europe in order to get back home to Finland. He is just waitin to another aeroplane, when there is an announcement saying "All flights are cancelled". Man goes to information desk and asks the lady there about when the next flight is going to be and how long that situation stays. The lady explains there is not any information, it can be some days, it can be some weeks or months. An eruption of volcano has spread minerals in the earths atmosphere in Europe and therefore there is no prognosis about the condition when it is next time safe to fly with modern turbine engine aeroplanes.

Man considers the situation. He has to go home because his daughter has her wedding day soon and it is fathers duty to escort daughter to the isle. And mans wife is expecting him home, because the father of the man is weakening. Routine homecoming turns into a nightmare and there are more and more passengers filling the airstation, asking when will it be possible to fly further. A choir of passengers gathers up and starts singing for their longing home and the collapse of the air transportation system. And the song ends when they start to move to the port where they get trasportation to the city trainstation and bus station. A struggle for tickets begins, overcrowded trains, overcrowded busses and stations.

Scene 2 Somewhere in Europe

Man has spent several days in trains and busses and gone through some big cities of Europe. Money runs out for tickects and mobile phone stops working because the charger is lost. Man loses the contact to his family and he sings an aria where he expresses his need to go home and need to survive. He gets hungry without no money, he loses his handbaggage. There is no way other but to join together with men and women who have same problems to solve and try to combine their forces and try to find theit way home in this new situation.

ACT 2 Brussels & Berlin

Scene3 Brussels

Man comes to Brussels hitchhiking. A truck driver has helped him there and there is a big truck parking area, where truckdrivers choir starts singing. They have seen the european roads and ways and they have seen the continent through their poit of view. There are small coffee houses and bars with tasty simple food for them and there are custom halls and papers they have to deal with when transporting goods to the people. man changes to another truck and starts his way to Berlin. One eyed custom officer is very carefully trying to find out is there something the man is smuggling or what.

Scene 4 Berlin

Love parade. Music is playing everywhere. People are dancing in the streets. People are dressed in all possible ways. It is a carneval of rock music and love making and our hero is an outsider. He tries to contact someone there to ask his way home, or how to get some food but he is not getting contact to dancers. Instead they grab him to dance with them, like in a hallucination ythey dance and dance...and the man collapses.

He sees a dream of the old days when his father was travelling and how the world looked like those days. He dreams of ships and cars and trains, he remembers when his father bought him his first "interrail" ticket to Europe when he was young.

ACT 3 Homecoming

Man comes home in this act. But he is a changed man. He has begged and borrowed to get further on his trip. He has seen other begars too and he is not wearing any decent suit. He has a worn out pair of jeans and a jacket on. He is skinny, three weeks of travelling and starving have made him look skinnier.

The wedding is over, the frustrated wife at home looks tired. The old man (father of the hero) is very weak.

But the homecoming is very peaceful. Sauna washes the dust of Europe away. Daughter and his husband dance their way to their own life in a different part of world. Mans heart is overwhelmed when he sees his daughter in this situation. The company in which the man was working is cutting off that man and hundreds of other people because the recession is so severe.

But a new life starts. Man has a new dawn with understanding the situation of how weak the economic system is and how vulnerable. And all hope we have is on our ability to co-operate and behave like friends. And our ability to love.
