The modern twists are nice. Perhaps you could link it back to Greek mythology for greater depth. How about a modern Ulysses? It wouldn't necessarily have to be the entire story, but I'm sure there are a few of his adventures that could translate very well into modern times. |

There are many variations of Ulysses story in todays literature and films, one of the latest being the film "O brother where art thou" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0190590/
One in the literature is that of James Joyce's Ulysses, telling a story of a day in Leopld Blooms life, having flasbacks of his past and what is in a mans mind during a one day walk in Dublin...
There could be sirens in Wienna and Circe turning men to pigs in Berlin, perhaps there could be a Cyclop in Helsinki...

and those make the journey recognisable.
This story shoud not be though an imitation of that movie or the excellent book of James Joyce. The journey of modern man going home is longer and the dangers are many. And the means of possibilities in being in contact with modern technology are something that was never before possible. Unless the lack ofcommunication makes the difference, man loses phone, can't afford Internet access or loses passwords to his systems or those get locked by him trying with wrong kind of keyboard to log in to systems in vain.
Hmm...thank you for ideas.
