A hint at a background

I don't know if this suits the style of the script, but one possibility is to see some hint at the sniper's background, about his humanity.

For example a lot of war films have a soldier looking at a photo of their wife or girlf, maybe something along those lines. It doesn't tell you everything abotu them, but it tells you that they have a life elsewhere.

Good point. I haven't given much thought for this yet. The real Häyhä never married and there's no mention of any GFs either. There's a scene in a book *Valkoinen kuolema* where someone points to a picture on the wall and says "There's a bride for Simo", but Häyhä says something like "I already have one, I don't need a second one" and points to his rifle. I guess I see him as a kind of lonely samurai who lives for his art and country.
