The Opera by You -team is looking for your ideas and comments. Join and show your support for Opera by You. Opera let loose by Laura-Maija HeroThe banker is in the cross roads: weather to choose right or wrong, end up to be the hero or devil. He weights his options and hopes, his needs and his wants. The audience is taken to his past by a back shot: suddenly we are in his childhood and we see the world with his young boys eyes. The boy encourages the opera audience to come with him (the audince stand up and goes out with him). He takes the audience around the casle, out in the dark, and he shows how he swims and palys. The audience is walking as a huge group of people and small boys is leading their way. Candles are given to everyone, and we share a mutual magic moment outside the castle. To be continued later... |

Sound really interesting idea, but there are some issues. In practice, moving audience during the performance is very difficult and could be annoying.
The opera performance will take place in old castle build back in 15th. century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olavinlinna
Audience is seated in crowded auditorium for almost 3000 people, passageways and stairways are pretty narrow. Please see the map (link) for reference. http://www.operafestival.fi/In_English/Front_page/mainmenu/Attending_a_Performance/Auditoriums/Olavinlinna_Castle.iw3
But think about other ideas how we could use the audience during the opera.it might be interesting and fun to see.

Iida, please create a group for all the banker stories! Let's give this banker a chance!
Iida Hämeen-Anttila:
Dear Timo-Heikki, Timo, Tatu and Laura-Maija, all four of you have written a story including a greedy banker in a turning point of his life where he has to face the consequences of his choices, a very current topic. As your dramaturg I have a suggestion for you: how about teaming up and trying to combine these stories? I could create a group for you if you'd like to try and work as a team.

Laura-Maija Hero:
There is a challenge with my idea of going out with the young boy: there are hundreds of people and the hall ways are very narrow in this castle. I would like to keep the idea of going out, so how about this: 50 people follow the young boy out with candles in their hands and get an exclusive experience when the young boy sings and dances - swims in the lake and talks with the audience, the rest stays and sees the boys tour with the audience thru a huge videoscreen ? All this is anyways seen in movietheaters and in the internet! The opera goes on, and when they come back they all come thru the stage and the audience sings together with the boy on stage. What do you think? Could work.. I would love a stage director to comment also ..
Aiko Waegelein:
I like this idea because the audience can collaborate with action as like I think the idea how we are making this opera should be somehow connected with the form of Opera By You!
Tatu Siltanen:
I wrote an idea ("Iceland") with similarities. I think it would be possible to combine these stories. Your idea of a decision between two options could become the turning point for the character in my scenario.
I like the idea of an audience walking between scenes.
Can you think of a way to do it?
