@ Simon Horrocks: "nazist" was the correct etymology which indicated the "nazist party". The world "nazi" (it also correct) was an abbreviation used by the allies during the second world war.
The word "fascist" is today usually misused to indicate generically a totalitarian dictatorship, but is more suited to indicate the Italian dictatorship during the WWII.
Nazism and fascism was both totalitarian dictatorships, but also if nazism has its roots in fascism, it was different in many ways.
Anyway, these historical deepenings, I think that your observation is historically correct, because almost certainly allies never used the world "nazist" in their propaganda posters, but certainly used the word "nazi"... :)

"NAZIST" is not a word. Not sure if that's a typo.
How about using FASCIST?
