Särkänniemi area

The Näsinneula tower just looks like UFO. Ant there is a planetarium too in the building. That makes it suitable for one part of the Iron Sky happening.

There could be arranged the planetarium to shft the sky to the year 2018 and show moon eclipses and then suddenle how the Haunebu armada bursts into the sky from behind the moon.

Thanks for commenting. I did not know the planetarium is nowadays not a proper one anymore. And the scale of the happening is really a problem. If one expects 10 000 people to celebrate, then it is no other places there as ice hockey stadiums or other indoor sport halls or the mass centrum.

And it depends much of the chosen place what kind of activities there is possible to arrange.

Unfortunately the planetarium is no longer a proper one but they have two data projectors which they use and they don't use the full 360 degrees of the screen either (not even 180, if I recall correctly, on their website they say they do use all the 360 degrees but at least a couple of years ago they didn't). The room itself doesn't have space for that many people either, it only fits 136 people which isn't enough. A great idea but if the aim is to have LOTS of people, the Planetarium isn't big enough, it's actually REALLY small.

The problems is there isn't much room for anything else in the Särkänniemi are< either. No place for a proper art exhibit (because we'd all want to see concept art and original costumes etc.), no propler places for lots of people etc.. The problems is the time of the year, too. The place is sort of open during the winter (that being only the Aquarium, Näsinneula-tower and the Planetarium) but most of the places are closed, which means there is no access to the amusement park itself. During the summer (if that's the time of the premier) they might be reluctant to have the "normal" activities shut down (Planetarium and perhaps Delphinarium might be needed for the activities at least). They don't need the money (the entrance fees are HIGH and they're doing damn fine financially, at least that's what they said only about a month ago).

Another problem is that Särkänniemi doesn't have good connections to the centre, apart from the summer when there is one bus line going from Särkänniemi to the railway station. Off-season there isn't much and the distance from the centre is quite long. Plus there isn't any way to drive cars in front of the building which means "red carpet" type of a thing would not really work that well...

But if one would like to organize something in the Särkänniemi area, the city of Tampere is the owner... Don't know much about the new director of the park. Getting the park for use would most likely not be that big of a problem but organizing and all the practical things might not work in the area. With proper planning it _might_ work but having organized 3 small/medium sized (6 000-10 000 people/per event) events in Tampere, I've got some idea what it would take to organize an event like this and I've got a feeling Särkänniemi might not be the best place. I could be wrong, of course :)
