The scientist/geniousI think that the genius who understands what has happened is the logical choice to have as a center figure. He doesn't need to be the main character or even have much screen time, but at the very least good friends with the lead protoganists. Then you can introduce the science and speculations through the contact between the genius and the protagonists, thus letting the main characters be average joes, which gives this project a bigger demographic as target. |

Indeed, there can be as many specialist characters as necessary in order to deliver exposition. Or can any of them be motivated to anything more extraordinary? Indeed, actually relevant to Transhumanist themes, quirky troubled Holmsian characters are doing well lately in the media. Anyone else merely plays the foil.
And what are average Joes like in the world of tomorrow? Only the most remarkable shows actually deliver on the promise of strange new world and at all howsoever display significantly cultures.
Given a plot equals problem oriented ripping yarn as herein, rather than a character driven Literature, what becomes most important are characters at all up to the challenges, but not so much as to actually make anything easy.
Characters need to be at all up to their challenges, but only barely. No Powderpuff Pitty-Pat! Throughout the plot, the tension and pathos, even discomfort and aversion, of every Technique of suspense in plotting, building tension and anticipation, are all heightened as thing are made more difficult, the personal emotional stakes are raised, and character growth is pressed by worsening complications for an active protagonist, definitely including onstage sex! Virtually all relationships of whatever kind begin with some sort of first discovery, romance even courtship, so to speak, even "the honeymoon," but inevitably and come into conflict on different levels, friction which is normal and even healthy, and in order to survive must reach acceptance in order to commit to substantive cooperation and collaboration.
