Perhaps the Einhorningen might have been conceived as a 'Star Wars' project - a Stealth / Ballistic missile intercept - more reliable than a patriot missile platform.
They can enter the Stratosphere and use boosters to hover, acting as a manual net of International Peacekeeping, coming out of the sun to stop Espionage / Violence : 'Fighters Without Borders' so to speak.
It might be a labor intensive alternative a virtual net, but perhaps that would be the UN's goal... perhaps this Saab fighters mark the UN's predominance as a real-time peacekeeping deterring force?
Oh, and I renamed it Enhörningen (The unicorn) out of respect for Astrid Lindgren. She would be turning in her grave if she heard that a name from her books was use by a military craft, even if it is fictional...
So please don't use the name Vildvittran if the design makes it into the final film?
Jack: The original design only had the missiles on top of the wings, my thought was that they would be shielded there. But that doesn't stop you from putting stuff beneath that you jettison before re-entry (If you have any left). Just remember to put the most expensive missiles at the top rack.
I started wondering, whether there could/should be yet another thruster on top of the rudder, too? The rudder just looks so useless for spaceflight else. Also, the rudder might carry some weaponry as well. (Remember, in space aerodynamics doesn't really count. But don't ruin the great looks...)

If this makes it into the final film? Will there be toys?

Wow!
Though it lost it's retro thrusters, I keep feeling it will crush into something. But that's just me, being all logical. Can't help it.
It looks killer.
Yet, with a little creativity maybe you could get retro boosters without loosing the pointyness of the manoeuvring booster racks?
My thoughts of the RJAS in action: http://www.wreckamovie.com/system/shot_medias/0000/1287/IronSkyR-JAS-Storyboard.png

The base concept inpires me more an atmospheric fighter...
Trying to reentering the atmosphere will certainly finish in a great ball of fire! :)
External Explosives?
Wouldn't they explode reentering the atmosphere?
Looks fast as a bullett! A nice design for a light interceptor.
The sleek shape makes me wonder where all the fuel would go... Maybe it comes with reserve fuel tanks that are jettisoned just before the fight.
Thanks!
I think it can fly in atmosphere too. ;)

Beauuuuuutiful! :)
