The EU has been thinking of a mission to Mars, so some groundwork can already have been done for that, including a few launch sites with launchbay and perhaps a platform in orbit. Defenses might be in place to deflect space debris that could be adapted into weapons. |

Definitely agree that the Brits would not necessarily want to be involved in the EU ship. For that matter there would be a lot of amusing political shenanigans going on about who should be in charge and the corruption and inefficiencies in the build.
