Merchandizing is also very important, quite a bit of revenue can be generated with that as Hollywood has shown us. Just look at Pixar and all the toys and other stuff. And with Star Wreck there has been lots of T-Shirts and other merchandize sold over the years.

Our idea for product placements is to create a market place, ie an easy way for productions and advertisers and sponsors to meet. Brand X might want to give X amount of money to 10 different productions for having their brand mentioned in the dialog, shown in the movie or something like that. The productions can then pitch to the brand on why they would be the best to receive the funding, ie would fit best etc etc. That way we should be able to really help both sides get the most out of the collaboration. All work in progress, but we are pretty excited about the possibilities, just need to get it built. Hoping for August;-)

A list of places for funding makes sense, maybe another wiki for that?

We will introduce some new functionality to Wreckamovie in the fall that will help with doing the kind of funding you describe. We are looking at starting with fan funding + also product placements, all done in the form of market places. The fan funding could evolve into the kind of film fund that you describe.
