Karma not awarded for suggestions outside own productions? As far as I can tell you don't earn any karma for shots you give outside your own productions. This seems a bit unfair, surely if someone posts a really good idea that gets lots of thumbs-up it should earn them karma whether they're part of the production or not? |

Jani, I think the way they want it to work is that people see how much someone has helped in a particular production.
Things should be better once they implement karma being counted for all productions. People who don't care about production-by-production stuff can just concentrate on the total.
I don't understand the need for two karma systems (membership + freestyle). Why not simply give Karma for all shots, period?
I understand the current system is designed to motivate people to join productions, but i don't think it is the best way. First, I doubt many people are really after karma here. There's no real reward for gathering it. Second, if people do get motivated by it, it may discourage them from giving shots to productions they don't wish to join. If you joined every production, you'll get swamped with "new tasks in your prods".
What would be good motivation? Maybe production specific "badges" - you'd get a badge for, say, every 50 points of karma you get as a member of a certain production. That would reward dedication to certain productions, but you'd also get karma for random shots to others.
Cool! :)
We'll implement freestyle Karma in one of the next updates. Just moved it higher on the list.
I've just seen two really good shots that will not earn their creators any karma because they aren't members of the production.
Is there any word on whether this "freestyle" karma category can be introduced?
As things stand, there's no direct incentive for people to contribute to each other's productions unless everyone joins everyone else's production. But if everyone does that, why have memberships at all?
I think it's a great idea to have a "freestyle karma" category to sum up all the points awarded outside of your own productions!
Vesa, yes a "miscellaneous karma" category would be a very good idea. Or maybe it could be called "good samaritan karma"? :-)
Sometimes people don't particularly want to take part in a production in the long term, but they might still have an idea to contribute.
The current system is a bit "all-or-nothing", you're either in the production earning karma or you're out of it getting zero reward.
About current implementation: Karma is attached to production memberships. No membership, no karma.
I think adding karma from shots/comments/thumbs/etc. should be added when you join the production. Otherwise I don't know how it should be. Should there be some "random karma points" category where all karma from things done outside membership productions go?
If you have suggestions about how current system should be chanced, please shoot.
Have to admit I don't know the exact formula used. Have to ask Vesa. Agree that needs to be fair and you can't expect everyone to join every production. Also, the MyWreck page will need to be improved, gets really crowded really fast as it is now. Wasn't a problem when we had less productions and less people;-) Growing pains I guess, which is all good!
well, that's not fair for sure.
Erm I meant "no" not "yes". Bugger you still can't edit post...
@Eteri: Yes, as it is now, you only get Karma points for the productions you are a member of! Which is why everyone should join Snowblind immediately, hehhe ;P
Nope, it isn't.
As far as I can tell you only earn karma if you join a production, THEN do the shot and THEN get thumbs-up.
Yeah I think so too. I really don't wanna join too many productions, as the "new tasks matching your wreckupations" list is already going on my nerves now ;-) It's hard enough keeping track of my own project ;-P
BTW @Kris S., great you have a can of IRN-BRU as your profile pic... I remember that stuff from my times at the Edinburgh Film Festival... Great brew, and it probably glows in the dark too ;-P
Cheers,
KMH
what if you join the production? is it awarded then?
