Insane Conspiracy Videos on Youtube

My idea is to hire an actor who poses as a Nazi conspiracy-nut, and who makes Youtube videos where he is slowly uncovering evidence that the Nazis had flying saucers and other advanced technology. He should use some of the real books the Iron Sky team have, showing drawings of experimental Nazi flying machines, and show these as scanned pictures.

There already is a good sized wikipedia entry about Nazi UFOs, so this is very plausible:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_UFOs

He could also attempt to show similarities between the drawings and UFO sightings on the Internet, for example showing this photo from flickr (attached below)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/miromile/455806682/
and then a scan of a drawing a of nazi flying saucer. Or focus on famous historical pictures of UFOs.

I really like this super-creepy photo of this guy who has wrapped his head in aluminum foil:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/robnwatkins/397488557/
(attached below)

I see that the Iron Sky team have created fake comic nazi books and other props. These could be used by this person, as he discovers these things on the Internet. Perhaps the comic could be listed for auction on ebay, and then immediately cancel the auction and the account. ie, plant fake evidence.

I think this could be a lot of fun, making fun of conspiracy theorists, and crazy people on the net. Initially, people wouldn't know if this guy is "for real" or not. Then, they'll wonder why this film on a similar topic is being made. Sort of a lonelygirl15 kind of "is is real or not?" thing.

If we really wanted to get crazy, some volunteers could be assigned to get on conspiracy theory (and far-right-wing?) discussion boards, and start discussing the evidence, make it sound plausible.

Here is an example of a crazy site that seems to believe this stuff:
http://www.burlingtonnews.net/hitlersufo.html

and one with lots of drawings:

I think you may already know this, but the movie "Der Untergang" has extremely authentic voice acting on Hitlers part due to a unique recording of his and Mannerheims conversation in 1942. Since the tapes are available for scientific study, it may be possible to hunt a copy down for some voice manipulation and insertion into the movie.

Timo Rüppell May 15, 2008 06:11 Flag

I am fluent in spoken and written German.

We've just got some great evidence:

OMG!

I skyped today with Timo Vuorensola, the director of Iron Sky, and he thinks this is a great idea and wants to move it forward. I think the way we're going to go forward with it is to make it a separate production inside WaM.

However, since Timo and the rest of the crew (and me) are going to Cannes on wednesday, nothing will happen for a week, as we all have to focus on our suntans and flirting with skinny actresses. (grin)

One idea that came out in my conversation with Timo V was making a 3 second audio file which is a condensed version of a few sentences from a Hitler speech (maybe 90% of the data removed). It could be "found" by tinman and posted somewhere (like a yahoo group), where fans could try to decode it, someone would succeed, and upload the decoded file, which would then be spooky. Best would be if the Hitler words were somehow relating to space flight (and lebensraum perhaps), but that would require someone fluent in German.

Timo *loves* the idea that the reason Bush wants the USA to fly to the moon is that "he knows about the Nazis on the moon"

I might be able to make some fake recordings of Bill Clinton and also George Bush Senior, saying something about nazis in space, because I wrote a program for manipulating spoken words 15 yrs ago: http://john.redmood.com/atomizer.html

Is there a conspiracy to hide the fact or is the idea of Nazis on the Moon just so crazy that no body here on earth believes that?"

I've got the script, reading through it now, and at least so far, there's nothing about people in 1945 knowing about the nazis on the moon.

Scripts can change, of course, but I don't think Earth-people know the Nazis are on the moon -- it's the *dark* *side*, remember? I assume the implication of that is they've been hidden this whole time.

Next step, I think, is to get an ok from the Timo & Samuli on this, and I'm going to bring it up with them next week in Cannes.

If this like it, I think it should be its own film production inside wreck-a-movie, since it really is a separate film.

I love Timo Rüppell's suggestions for leaked materials, well done!

This is great! there should definately be some home videos of ufos with nazi symbols on it. "SS"

Andrew Dougherty, you gave me an even wilder idea, I think.

What if there "might" be such sounds in the background in some spots end of movie completely in random? I mean, sometimes watching the movie there would be nothing, but sometimes there could occur something "UFO" in completely unexpectable surroundings so, that nobody could ever repeat the same. With the modern digital movie technology such should be perfectly possible.

I'll open a new shot about this somewhere in more correct place.

Elias Ruokanen May 07, 2008 22:27 Flag

What a splendid idea.

The great ofcourse is that other youtubers will start responding to the video. We could have a few plants who try to stir up conflict, other people who get interested and research etc.

Andrew Dougherty May 07, 2008 15:09 Flag

Well, I'm a paranoid schizophrenic who's worked for organizations that not even their own members can prove exist, but this is all very fun. What about this: near the end of the film, certain sounds are added that clearly don't syncronize with the film, a kind of you know that thing in the 30's where people thought orsen well's was telling the truth kind of thing. Some people with their fancy surround sound set ups could be made to think that something was actually going on. You would have to design the sounds so that there was no way to visually verify their veracity. Lastly, it would have to be brief enough that they couldn't adjust their sound. Also, they may try rewinding to make sure it was a fake, I don't know what counter measures could be added there. Silly idea but just a thought.

Toni Nummela May 07, 2008 13:03 Flag

BTW: All the people abducted by UFOs were actually taken to the moonbase to work for the nazis. There's no such thing as extra-terrestials. They were all nazis from the beginning.

Toni Nummela May 07, 2008 10:27 Flag

Great evidence! I'll come up with some more in the future, but we need to know one thing first. The marketing has to be inline with the movie...

Do the earthlings (even the highest security guys at FBI/NASA/Government) in Iron Sky script know that Nazis went to moon in 1945 or not?

Is there a conspiracy to hide the fact or is the idea of Nazis on the Moon just so crazy that no body here on earth believes that?

Timo Rüppell May 07, 2008 09:05 Flag

I was thinking about what kind of evidence you could have for Nazis actually being on the moon right now:

1) A leaked photo from NASA taken by the Hubble Space Telescope showing what appears to be an observatory right on the edge of the dark side of the moon (the nazis must have some way to observe earth after all). I know that Hubble can only resolve features about 280 feet across but few normal people do so this could be quite plausible and look extremely cool. The photo could be slightly ambiguous but clearly show some sort of large non-natural formation with a swastika showing on it.

2) Leaked top secret NASA / DOD documents hinting at a possible alternative motive behind the Bush administrations current plan to go to the moon.

3) News story about a group of Neo-Nazi rocketry hobbyists getting arrested for trying to launch a far too large "toy" rocket. Subsequent investigations reveal their objective to have been delivering a payload of maps (military and civilian) as well as tech gadgets (GPS recievers, pre paid cell phones etc) into orbit around the moon.

Vuokko Aitosalo May 07, 2008 06:11 Flag

Wow. Would NOT want to run into that tin foil dude in a dark alley.
Great idea guys, everybody loves a good conspiracy theory. When do you think the timing would be right for this sort of thing?

Ricky Grove wrote:

I think you look *just the perfect man* to start the job! These paranoid guys I've found are usually young guys but I think your age gives this thing the sort of realism I think is very different and hopefully makes this more belivable and makes it stand out.

It's more about the voice and mimics when your head is covered.

Should there be also somekind of drama plan to all of this (like in Improv anywhere)? Nobody cares to watch the clips if their content doesn't somehow escalate when moving towards the premiere of Iron Sky.

The last question to be answered could be "when are the nazis attacking" and the anse "Well, my sources indicate that the nazis are attacking this friday at 4 p.m. first at Russian movie theaters" but that can lead to another theme of "what will you be doing when they attack" etc.

It could also be that because we have so many people and ideas here it will spontaniously live its life and no plan is necessary.

Jani Salomaa May 06, 2008 22:10 Flag

You guys are on fire! Get it going, right now!

Getting a bunch of people from all over the world to do this sort of a thing would be the first step into a really daring involvement by the community. And it could be a key to a media frenzy. So far, WreckAMovie has lacked a spark. This could be it.

I bet you'll get the attention of the production team once they wake up from their teaser deadline sleep deprivation disorder (a rare disease rarely encountered out of its original Star Wreck environment)..

I propose we (Iron Sky team and the fans) get this planned and organized properly. It is a daring push, one that must be timed and executed right, with extremely virally high rewards if it succeeds.

John Buckman May 06, 2008 21:31 Flag

To Ricky Grove:

I've been looking at the web sites you link to from wreck a movie, and I think you'd be great as "tinman93" (or whatever) at youtube. You've got real acting experience, which I think we need to pull this off.

For scripts, I can make a task here on wreck-a-movie, and see what we can come up with as group.

Also, can you do a screen test, just for internal wam use, of a tin-foil wrapped head in a turtleneck, print out some of the stuff from http://greyfalcon.us/German%20UFOs.htm and use it as props.

Probably use a solid color backdrop (preferably white) with some side-lighting, to make the tinfoil reflect (use the flickr photo as a lighting guide)

The screen test would be useful to see if this would work at all. We might not be able to carry it off.

I'm thinking that this person should *not* come off as a nazi-sympathizer but more someone who is paranoid, and suspicious, and actually worries about a nazi invasion, and is using the tin foil as a mask (one episode should probably explain the mask), so that the nazis don't break down his door and take him away. He doesn't get the irony or creepiness of his disguise.

The videos should be under 5 minutes long, preferably 2 to 4 minutes.

Ricky Grove May 06, 2008 19:56 Flag

Outstanding idea. I'll volunteer to be the actor, if I'm not too old looking to do it. Although if we use the aluminum foil idea, it probably won't make a difference. I have decent DV camera (also a pixel camera which might make the video look particularly strange) and experience in editing. I can improvise given direction or work off of prepared scripts.

Shane McElveen May 06, 2008 19:44 Flag

I love the idea of mixing movie marketing propaganda into existing conspiracy theorist sites, and I love even more the idea of the actor pretending to be a conspiracy theorist running around the film festival handing things out. It might even be nice to have a very public scene where several men in sunglasses, black leather trench coats and jack boots march out of a black car, pretend to inject the man with something that puts him right out, and take him into the car. Then they calmly drive away. In the back windshield of the car have the "Iron Sky" logo, with the website address stretching across the back of the car perhaps.

Toni Nummela May 06, 2008 15:37 Flag

And I think some guys could cover their heads in aluminum foil and wear turtlenecks in Cannes also. That would be cheap, wouldn't it?

Toni Nummela May 06, 2008 15:23 Flag

Man, I just love this board! It's very rewarding to bring up ideas and then someone continues as you did just now John. That was exactly what I wanted to see.

John wrote:
"what if a number of us all made our own youtube videos, but ALL of us making videos always covered our heads in aluminum foil, and always wore a black turtleneck."

That would be awesome. I hate the word-monster LOL but now I actually did.

John Buckman May 06, 2008 13:52 Flag

oohhh.. just had another idea... what if a number of us all made our own youtube videos, but ALL of us making videos always covered our heads in aluminum foil, and always wore a black turtleneck.

That would increase the number of videos, make it seem even more like a creepy cult.

John Buckman May 06, 2008 13:50 Flag

My thought was that this isn't so much a Cannes-specific idea, but a viral marketing idea in general for Iron Sky.

I wouldn't want to create more work for the Iron Sky team, but use the stuff they've already made, mix it with the lunatic fringe stuff that's already available (best example is http://greyfalcon.us/German%20UFOs.htm)

Also, a key element of this idea is that it could be done totally by fans, creating no new work for the Iron Sky core team.

I'm meeting with the Iron Sky team next week at Cannes, and if they give this a go-ahead, then I'd absolutely use WaM to create a task and make this happen!

Robert Seppälä May 06, 2008 11:02 Flag

Excellent idea dude!

Toni Nummela May 06, 2008 11:00 Flag

How about creating the evidence as a Task using WAM-people to produce / print some kind of videos and pictures around the world? The paranoid guy would then go like: "I just recieved very good video evidence from Finland that proves my theory that Nazis are infact alive and well in the moon. Take a look at this video/picture."

This "evidence" could also be produced by Energia them selves but we WAM guys could add the realism by using different cameras and different locations. Project would include:

1. Energia produces some printable "evidence" that Nazis are in the moon
2. WAM people print out this "evidence" at home/work
3. WAM people record a video / take pictures of this evidence at their current location (at known landmarks or local elements etc)
4. WAM people upload the videos / pictures to WAM or Youtube
5. The paranoid actor makes Videoblogs talking about this evidence

The quality of the videos could be very crappy like it sometimes is when filming videos with digital photocams. It doesn't matter. Could it work? How much time do we have? How does this tie-in to Cannes? Why so many questions? When is Iron Sky demo out?

Petri Liuhto May 06, 2008 10:32 Flag

Brilliant idea. Really original.
