Without knowing anything about the script here is a wild shot.

In Neuromancer (a book by William Gibson) was one of the characters a dead computer hacker whose memory was stored to ROM. And he could operate other equipment as a commanding software.

So one way to come back to life (if you can call it living) is to program your memory to a computer which could for example generate talking head to a TV set and you could talk with the living people.

This could be haunting.
